Barren Lands is a humble love letter to the region, where the author and artist Brynn Metheney was born and raised. She shines light-and wonder-on those deserts, which continue to inspire and surprise her. Metheney has included notes and observations about these oddities and seasonal incidents from her personal experiences. They include encounters that hinge on disbelief, passed down to her by family members and reclusive locals, about creatures unknown by the public. This is a marvelous look at hidden wonders that only a desert rat with a long history in the region could share. Metheney's words and pictures will spark the imagination with secret revelations that blur the lines between fantasy and reality and are sure to entertain anyone with a curious mind. (immagine)

This publication is the fifth collection of drawings and paintings by the illustrator and fine artist J.A.W. Cooper. It documents Cooper's personal struggle through guilt, mourning and, finally, acceptance as the artist lost and then refound a love for their craft after taking a two-year hiatus. Through imagery revolving around the cycles of life and death, seasons, joy and pain, Cooper explores the relationship between making art and an unhealthy reliance on it for self-worth and identity. Works from Cooper's 2021 solo show 'Gilt' at Gallery Nucleus, are gathered here along with some that were featured in the 2023 solo show 'Curious' at the same gallery. (immagine)

The J.A.W. Cooper Genesis Collection compiles more than 230 works in a variety of mediums that fill this collection of art from the unique mind of J.A.W. Cooper. This book leads us on a journey into the violent, steaming innards of making art-raw, spontaneous and unfettered. Drawing on themes of the occult, the artist explores animals as allegories for the human condition-a physical projection of that which is clandestine. Cooper explores instinct and intuition as the spark of artistic creation, to delight the feral child at our core. (immagine)

Pastoral is a romp through subject matter that makes Cooper supremely happy. Expect humor, expect sensuality, expect chickens, expect all three in one image. If that sounds like a damn good time to you we think you will get along famously with Cooper. Pastoral is filled with their energetic, expressive pencil and ink drawings of wildlife and their stewards. Gouache works from Cooper's travels and gallery paintings also appear. (immagine)

Accompanying photos of Franklin Booth (1874-1948), his family, friends and colleagues-along with illustrations by his peers and inspirations-add nearly fifty more images. A new essay by the award-winning illustrator and professor Alice A. Carter delves into Booth's life. This biography highlights his childhood in Indiana, family life and the earliest days of his professional career, his road trips, studio life and teaching career with intimate stories and much more. Quotes of first-hand encounters with Booth by his students, friends and fellow artists also are shared. Pen-and-ink drawings cover a fifty-year span-from Booth's earliest days to his final works. These include his story illustrations for top magazines of the time, plus a diverse and rare assortment of pieces made for poems, advertisements and prints. Book illustrations completed in color as well as pen-and-ink also are featured, along with rare sketches for an unrealized project. All art was scanned and photographed from its original source material using the latest technology and has been painstakingly prepped for this publication. Franklin Booth's meticulous and unique pen technique has been revered by artists and students for the last hundred years. No one has ever been able to duplicate his style. Booth utilized his own life, philosophies and experiences as vehicles to project his thoughts to the viewer, which makes his work deeply compelling and infused with his respect for nature and art. He always listened to his own voice and developed a style that was not a natural product of his era. This allowed his work to become timeless and to continue capturing audiences today. Franklin Booth's influence can still be seen in modern comic books, fantasy illustrations, concept art and films. The magnitude of his art is made for the big screen, with his figures in epic scenes. His work has made its way through decades of shifting genres and changes in the art world and is still as immediate today as it was in the early twentieth century. -Over 365 black-and-white illustrations by Booth -Over 25 color illustrations by Booth -Over 400 total pieces by Booth -Over 20 photographs that show Booth, his family, friends or colleagues -Over 25 paintings or drawings by his peers, inspirations or other artists working during his time period -New 25,000-word biographical essay by Alice A. This 352-page Xenozoic book is a handy-to-hold collection of all the classic Xenozoic Tales comic stories written and drawn by Mark Schultz. This is a new printing with a new cover. Welcome to the Xenozoic Age, a post-apocalyptic landscape where dinosaurs roam freely…and humanity is the endangered species! 'What a strange new world, to have such creatures in it!' Forced into hiding by a global ecological cataclysm, humans emerge from their underground warrens half a millennium later to discover that the Earth has been totally transformed. All of the familiar flora and fauna are gone, replaced by a radically altered natural order populated by rampaging dinosaurs and strange new creatures. It takes guts, grim determination, ingenuity and a whole lot of old-fashioned luck just to survive, much less thrive, in this alien wilderness-all qualities that ace mechanic Jack Tenrec, lovely scientist Hannah Dundee and their friends possess in abundance. But even the worthiest of these hardy souls are hard-pressed to surmount the obstacles presented by their new homeland. And when those trials are further compounded by the underhanded and selfish actions of the cutthroat human scavengers they encounter, even the best-equipped and bravest among them might not endure. Xenozoic combines lush and richly realized ink-and-brush artwork with a pulp-fueled narrative to create an action-packed fantasy-an unrelenting adventure that also serves as a subtle cautionary fable concerning the unforeseen consequences that shortsighted present-day decisions might have upon future generations.
