esempio: @author Stan Lee
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
codice a barre.
We Told You So: Comics As Art tells of Fantagraphics Books' key role in helping build an art movement in the 1970s around a discredited, ignored and fading art form: comics. Assembling an all-star cast including Chris Ware, Art Spiegelman, Harlan Ellison, Jim Shooter, Stan Lee, Daniel Clowes, Frank Miller, Peter Bagge, Jaime Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez, Dave Sim, Steve Geppi, Todd McFarlane and every other major figure in modern comics, Comics As Art… makes the warts and all case for Fantagraphics Books' position near the heart of the modern reclamation of the comics art form. The first book in Fantagraphics' new Atlas Artist Edition series collects the best work of Marvel's top artist of the 1950s in a lush, lavish, full-color, oversize collector's volume, scanned directly from the original printings and meticulously restored and presented in a wealth of detail never seen before. Joe Maneely was known for his draftsmanship, his versatility, and his speed. He could draw horror, science fiction, war, crime, Madstyle humor, Westerns, and funny animals with equal dexterity. His tactile, chiaroscuro graphic approach to storytelling has made him a legend among the comics cognoscenti, but because he never drew superheroes and his life ended tragically at age 32, he has never been given the attention his short but incandescent career deserves. Until now. As Geoffrey C. Ward wrote in American Heritage, 'Maneely's knowledge of 19th century artifacts was encyclopedic, his rumpled, unshaven cowboys all wore the right hats, swung the right lariats, sat in the right saddles, fired the right model Colts - with every screwhead and trigger guard and notched handle precisely rendered.' And that's only his Westerns. That tightly focused attention to detail pervades his work in every genre. The Atlas Artist Edition Vol. 1: Joe Maneely, presents a cornucopia of Maneely's work for Marvel (then called Atlas) including Westerns (Kid Colt, Black Rider, Ringo Kid, Wyatt Earp, Two-Gun Kid), pre-Code horror ('Haunted!', 'The Raving Maniac', and the classic 'Your Name Is Frankenstein'), space opera (Speed Carter), war (Combat Kelly), Mad-style parodies from the pages of Crazy and Riot, cold-war intrigue and paranoia (Yellow Claw), and Maneely's pride and joy - his Arthurian champion, The Black Knight. Series editor Dr. Michael J. Vassallo provides expert contextual and historical commentary in a special essay for this volume. Dr. Michael J. Vassallo is the pre-eminent expert on the Timely/Atlas period of Marvel's history. He co-wrote The Secret History of Marvel Comics (Fantagraphics Books, 2013) and edited Atlas at War (2020) and Timely Confidential: When the Golden Age of Comic Books Was Young (2017). He has written extensively for the Marvel Masterworks series and maintains his own Timely/Atlas Comics blog. He lives in New York. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

In the 1920's, women got the vote. They smoked, drank, shortened their hair and tossed their corsets. It was a revolution, and Fantagraphics celebrates that revolution with a collection of full-color strips documenting well-known cartoonists such as Ethel Hays and Nell Brinkley and also artists like art-deco illustrator Eleanor Schorer, fashion chronicler Edith Stevens and Virginia Huget, whose girls were seemingly always in a euphoric state of Charleston. Trina Robbins presents a liberating hardcover book filled with illustrations and comic strips. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

Told in a darkly comic, noir style and based on a true story, Monte Schulz's new prose novel, Naughty, tells the tale of a beautiful murderess and her smitten patsy of a husband on the loose in 1950's California. Schulz combines the exquisitely wrought language of his recent Jazz-Age trilogy with a straight-for-thethroat pulpy narrative- fans of Don DeLillo and Jim Thompson will not be disappointed. Who dislikes what foods and why? Novelist and poet Alexander Theroux probes the secret and mysterious attitudes of hundreds of people, mostly famous, in the matter of eating and dining out. Theroux's Einstein's Beets is an astonishingly original and monumental study on the enigmatic world of food and food aversions. Theroux explicates weird preoccupations of food and has penetrated the baffling, otherwise closed world of glaring food frights, phobias, and fixations. Tomi Ungerer eviscerates the 1 percent in this series of cartoon vignettes (a proto-graphic novel) that are unfortunately as relevant now as the time they were drawn and shall remain so forever and ever. Created in the 1960s, The Party takes place in the Hamptons. It's attended by captains of industry, tycoons, magnates, moguls, and various undistinguishable fat cats, luxuriating in their tuxedos, evening gowns, and prattling small talk. The depiction of one grotesquerie after another - often couples - cavorting through the haze of booze and caviar, with the occasional wanton display of sybaritically libidinal impulse. Ungerer accompanies each full-page image with a hilarious, hand-lettered caption, which provides the characters' names and a brief deadpan description of their social standings, creating a dissonance between image and text.
