In 1963, Warner Bros. closed down their long-running cartoon facility that had produced such memorable merrymakers as the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons. Director/producer Friz Freleng and executive David H. DePatie were able to lease the former Warner cartoons studio on California Street in Burbank, complete with equipment and supplies. They struggled to keep their small animation studio running against odds and obstacles such as rising costs, never anticipating how they would soon style a series of cartoon characters that would paint memorable colors over movie animation history. When director Blake Edwards produced The Pink Panther, he envisioned a cartoon character of the same name to illustrate the opening credits sequence. Edwards hired Freleng and DePatie, together with artists at their DePatie-Freleng Enterprises studio, to design the animated sequence. The crafty magenta furry feline minced his way into moviegoer's hearts. The inspiration behind the ink was the people that worked at the DePatie-Freleng Enterprises (DFE) animation studio. Their hilarious cartoons caused a generation of moviegoers to rock theaters with laughter. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

The Shadow - for the consideration of those who never heard a radio broadcast or read a pulp magazine - was a supernatural sleuth with a sepulchral chuckle. A detective whose success in tracking down criminals became a popular long-running radio program from 1937 to 1954. The program left an impression on adults who enjoyed reading the pulp magazines and on young children who listened to the chillers. This book documents the entire history of the long-running radio program, with rare never-before-seen photos, interviews with cast and crew, a complete episode guide, and a carefully organized presentation of the facts. In the mid-1950s, American International Pictures was the self-proclaimed 'Infant of the Industry' and, as such, was not perceived as a serious threat to the major studios of the time. AIP soon proved themselves worthy opponents as their youth-oriented double features began raking in big bucks that rivaled and sometimes surpassed the profits of their competitors. This is the story of those years told mainly using material gathering by AIP's New York publicist. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

Walt Disney was a pioneer in the art of animation but by the mid-fifties Disney began to specialize in producing live-action films. This book explores such classics as Old Yeller, The Shaggy Dog, Pollyanna, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Parent Trap, Mary Poppins, and The Love Bug. The book's main focus is on the live-action films that the studio produced from roughly 1955 thru 1980 and the people who were part of them including a solid stock company of actors who audiences identified immediately, even if they didn't always know the name of the actor. Sam Slade didn't believe in Gorgo until he saw the monster's hideous scaly face, its slimy green talons and the massive mouth that could swallow a killer whale. If this was not enough he was to have even bigger problems in his future. Released by MGM in 1961, Gorgo is that oft-told cinematic fable of the giant beast that threatens humanity. This volume contains the shooting script and the original tie-in novel by Carson Bingham and a production background by Bill Cooke. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

Married... with Children premiered on Fox TV in 1987 and updated the Don Ameche and Frances Langford radio comedy series, The Bickersons, and Jackie Gleason's TV classic, The Honeymooners, with a raunchy, cutting-edge slant that focused on a lovable yet laughable family headed by endearingly flawed Al, his housework-hating wife, sexy daughter, and randy son. Hindsight is one man's remarkably revealing story about sex and relationships, on the silver screen and in his private life. Howie Gordon (screen name Richard Pacheco) was an award-winning actor during The Golden Age of Porn, whose memoir does not duck the question, 'What about love?' With charm, passion, wit, and what may best be described as a crude elegance, Gordon's story takes us back to the fabled Baby Boomer era, when erotic films took a dramatic step closer to mainstream entertainment in America. Nowadays it doesn't seem so that people from 20 to 60 quote Bugs Bunny, collect animation art or look forward to a new animated DVD chock full of extras. Growing up in the 1950s and '60s, cartoons were definitely kid's stuff. But by the late 1980s the status of animation had begun to change. Today, there's nothing wrong with adults decorating their work cubicle with Loony Tune action figures or a Betty Boop figurine. Michael Dobbs, who's written for Animato and Animation Planet magazines, examines how animation went from being perceived as a throwaway medium aimed at kids to a commercial artform for both adults and children. How did this change take place? How did an adult fan base for animation emerge? This book, chock-full of interviews and photos, examines the change in the animation industry. When Walt Disney died in 1966, many predicted that it might be the end of Walt Disney Productions, but Walt had a number of ideas and concepts that lasted well into the next decade. He also left behind a well-established group of workers that hoped to continually answer the question, 'What would Walt do?' with more magical creations that would dazzle and delight. With this book, author and historian Mark Arnold explores the major accomplishments of Walt Disney Productions during the years 1966-1985, paying particular attention to their theatrical film output, but also discussing the various new theme park attractions and the TV shows produced during that period.
