by Yuichi Yokoyama This book combines two of Yokoyama's central themes - fighting and building. One set of stories, entitled 'Public Works,' details massive structures being erected across a landscape. The other set of stories, 'Combats,' is one sequence after another of elegantly choreographed battles. Yokoyama builds things up and tears them down. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Sammy Harkham is regarded as one of the most influential cartoonist/editor of his generation. After a decade of work and groundbreaking anthologies, Everything Together collects his short stories. These comics condense vast amounts of emotion and information into nuanced cartoon narratives. At the center of the book are two vastly different tales: 'Poor Sailor', a sea-faring myth of a man gone to find wealth for his love; and 'Somersaulting', a fever dream of teenagers in love, wiling away the summer. Through all these works, Harkham maintains a light touch and emotive wit. The works in this book confirm his place among the best storytellers of his generation. Seiichi Hayashi was a leading figure in the hotbed of avant-garde artistic production of 1960s and early 70s Tokyo. He is best known for his lyrical and experimental manga for Garo, the famous alternative comics magazine. This volume collects a selection of Hayashi's most important manga from this period, including Red Dragonfly (1968), Yamauba's Lullaby (1968), and Gold Pollen (1971). Published here in their original full color, these stories mix traditional Japanese aesthetics with Pop art sensibilities, and range in topic from the legacies of Japanese rightwing nationalism and World War II, to the pervasive influence of America over 1960s Japanese youth culture. In 2012, Providence-based artist and musician C.F. began to produce a series of more than a dozen mini-comics, which he distributed via Twitter. Each mini-comic offered a take on, and expansion upon, a classic comic strip genre-from crime and sci-fi to punk and sex-all of them infused throughout by C.F.'s absurdist humor and loose improvisatory drawing. Less than 50 copies of each mini-comic were printed; needless to say, they sold out instantly. Collected here for the first time, they constitute a kind of bravura display of C.F.'s dexterity with pen and ink. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
