In 1978, DC Comics implemented a bold initiative to combat plummeting sales: Give readers more story pages with a higher cover price, to better compete on newsstands. This 'DC Explosion' brought with it many creative new titles, but just weeks after its launch, they pulled the plug, cancelling numerous titles and leaving stacks of completed comic book stories unpublished. It quickly became known as 'The DC Implosion', and TwoMorrows Publishing marks the 40th Anniversary of one of the most notorious events in comics with an exhaustive oral history from the creators involved (Jenette Kahn, Paul Levitz, Len Wein, Mike Gold, and others), plus detailed analysis of how it changed the landscape of comics forever! New updated edition! For its 75th issue, The Jack Kirby Collector magazine presents this first-of-its-kind examination of the creators of the Marvel Universe, in an oversized book! Completed just days before Stan Lee's recent passing, Kirby & Lee: Stuf' Said! looks back at the duo's own words - in chronological order, from fanzine, magazine, radio, and television interviews - to paint the most comprehensive and enlightening picture of their relationship ever done... why it succeeded, where it deteriorated, and when it eventually failed. Also, here are recollections from Steve Ditko, Wallace Wood, John Romita, Sr., and more Marvel Bullpen stalwarts who worked with both Kirby and Lee. Rounding out this book is a study of the duo's careers after they parted ways as collaborators, including Kirby's difficulties at Marvel Comics in the 1970s, his last hurrah with Lee on the Silver Surfer Graphic Novel, and his exhausting battle to get back his original art - and creator credit - from Marvel. Stuf''Said! gives both men their say, compares their recollections, and tackles the question, 'Who really created the Marvel Comics Universe?' Compiled, researched, and edited by publisher John Morrow. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

In 1954, industry legends Joe Simon and Jack Kirby founded Mainline Publications to publish their own comics during that turbulent era in comics history. The four titles-Bullseye, Foxhole, Police Trap, and In Love-looked to build off their reputation as hit makers in the Western, War, Crime, and Romance genres, but the 1950s backlash against comics killed any chance at success, and Mainline closed its doors just two years later. TwoMorrows Publishing compiles the best of Simon & Kirby's Mainline comics work, including all of the stories with S&K art, as well as key tales with contributions by Mort Meskin and others. This collection bridges the gap between Simon & Kirby's peak with their 1950s romance comics, and the lows that led to Kirby's resurgence with Challengers of the Unknown and the early Marvel Universe. The Best of Simon & Kirby's Mainline Comics presents some of the final, and finest, work Joe and Jack ever produced! (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
