Now in hardcover, the twelfth installment of the Hugo-nominated, New York Times-bestselling Toby Daye urban fantasy series!Things are not okay.In the aftermath of Amandine's latest betrayal, October "Toby" Daye's fragile self-made family is on the verge of coming apart at the seams. Jazz can't sleep, Sylvester doesn't want to see her, and worst of all, Tybalt has withdrawn from her entirely, retreating into the Court of Cats as he tries to recover from his abduction. Toby is floundering, unable to help the people she loves most heal. She needs a distraction. She needs a quest. What she doesn't need is the abduction of her estranged human daughter, Gillian. What she doesn't need is to be accused of kidnapping her own child by her ex-boyfriend and his new wife, who seems to be harboring secrets of her own. There's no question of whether she'll take the case. The only question is whether she's emotionally prepared to survive it.Signs of Faerie's involvement are everywhere, and it's going to take all Toby's nerve and all her allies to get her through this web of old secrets, older hatreds, and new deceits. If she can't find Gillian before time runs out, her own child will pay the price. Two questions remain: Who in Faerie remembered Gillian existed? And what do they stand to gain? No matter how this ends, Toby's life will never be the same.

New York Times-bestselling October Daye faerie series • Hugo Award-winning author Seanan McGuire • "Top of my urban-paranormal series list!" —Felicia DayContains an original bonus novella, Of Things Unknown!Things are slow, and October “Toby” Daye couldn’t be happier about that. The elf-shot cure has been approved, Arden Windermere is settling into her position as Queen in the Mists, and Toby doesn’t have anything demanding her attention except for wedding planning and spending time with her family.Maybe she should have realized that it was too good to last. When Toby’s mother, Amandine, appears on her doorstep with a demand for help, refusing her seems like the right thing to do…until Amandine starts taking hostages, and everything changes. Now Toby doesn’t have a choice about whether or not she does as her mother asks. Not with Jazz and Tybalt’s lives hanging in the balance. But who could possibly help her find a pureblood she’s never met, one who’s been missing for over a hundred years? Enter Simon Torquill, elf-shot enemy turned awakened, uneasy ally. Together, the two of them must try to solve one of the greatest mysteries in the Mists: what happened to Amandine’s oldest daughter, August, who disappeared in 1906. This is one missing person case Toby can’t afford to get wrong.

"This novel effortlessly ascends to the heights of Mount Olympus. Tough and tender and bittersweet. Wearing the Lion establishes Wiswell firmly on the new fantasy landscape." —T. Kingfisher, Hugo Award-winning author of Nettle & Bone "Wiswell makes something new and thrilling—and funny and wrenching and tender—out of a very old myth." —Kelly Link, Pulitzer Prize finalist and author of The Book of Love Nebula Award-winning author of Someone You Can Build a Nest In John Wiswell brings a humanizing and humorous touch to the Hercules story, forever changing the way we understand the man behind the myth—and the goddess reluctantly bound to himSometimes a goddess's worst enemy is her biggest fan.Heracles, hero of Greece, dedicates all his feats to the goddess Hera. If only he knew that his very face is an insult to her...as he is yet another child that Hera’s dipshit husband, Zeus, had out of wedlock.“Auntie Hera” loathes every minute of Heracles’ devotion, until she snaps and causes an unspeakably tragic accident: the death of Heracles' children. Plunged into grief and desperate for revenge, Heracles is determined to find the god that did this. Wracked with guilt and desperate to save face, Hera distracts Heracles with monster-slaying quests, only to find that he is too traumatized to enact more violence. Instead, Heracles cares for the Nemean lion, bonds with the Lernaean hydra, and heeds the Ceryneian hind. Each challenge adds a new monster to Heracles' newfound family. A family that just might lay siege to Mount Olympos.

“Sometimes I think I see things. Out of the corner of my eye, behind a door, I catch a glimpse of something. It’s like a curtain caught in the wind, and then it’s gone.”From hospitals to hell to the wilderness, George Wylesol’s short stories take place in liminal spaces where nothing is as it seems; the surreal becomes real; and something is lying in wait around every corner. As our main characters navigate through corridors, passageways, and highways, they sink deeper and deeper into everyday strangeness that slips into peculiarity, creating an internal journey from normalcy to the supernatural. With surprising twists and turns, cleverly combining the strange and realism, smart, surprising, and sometimes terrifying – these stories make it clear that George Wylesol is like no one else in short comics-format fiction. New York Times best-selling writer Robert Venditti (SUPERMAN '78, ORDAINED) joins forces with superstar artist Juan Jose Ryp (WOLVERINE) to deliver an epic action-adventure extravaganza in this brand-new, bone-crushing collection. Texas based Greenleaf Oil has discovered that the world only has 50 years of oil left. Which means Greenleaf only has 50 years of profit left. But their enterprising CEO has a harebrained scheme to change history. Using time-travel technology they will send a team of mercenaries armed with weaponized mech suits -- aka TANKERS -- back to the end of the Cretaceous Period and deflect the asteroid that hit the Earth and killed all the dinosaurs. Just a small deflection though, they aim to have it make one more orbit around the solar system before impact. More time means more dinosaurs are born which means more oil in the present which means more profits for Greenleaf. This, of course, is a horrible plan and it goes horribly wrong. The Tankers return to Earth to find the planet overrun by primeval jungle and gigantic hyper-evolved dinosaurs. The Tankers must fight off these modern super-dinosaurs to once again return to the past and fix their mistake. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

A stunning graphic history of how enslaved Africans on board the Amistad rebelled and captured the slave ship in 1839, challenging a whitewashed version of history and putting the Africans back at the center of their own freedom storyFrom the trio of Rediker, Lester, and Buhle comes another graphic "history from below" about the Amistad rebellion of 1839 when 53 enslaved Africans on the slave ship Amistad slipped out of their restraints and overpowered their enslavers and ship’s crew. Sold into slavery in their homeland of Sierra Leone and later bound for Puerto Príncipe, Cuba, from Havana, these Africans, led by the charismatic warrior Cinqué, forced the ship’s remaining crew to sail homeward.Divided into 3 parts, The Black Schooner begins with the intense night of the uprising and takes readers on a reconstructed journey: from sailing on the open ocean to a New Haven, Connecticut, jail, where the captured Africans awaited trial for mutiny and murder; to the Supreme courtroom that found that the rebels had been illegally enslaved and would now be free to return to their native land. Through it all, artist David Lester chronicles their story using striking imagery, showing how they achieved an unexpected and powerful international victory for the abolitionist movement and forced some of the most powerful people in the world to confront the issue of human bondage.Based on Rediker’s book The Amistad Rebellion: An Atlantic Odyssey of Slavery and Freedom, The Black Schooner challenges a whitewashed history and instead, puts the Africans back at the center of their own freedom story—where they belong.
Paul Buhle, David Lester, and Marcus Rediker have collaborated on three previous graphic novels, all published by Beacon Press: Prophet Against Slavery: Benjamin Lay (2021); Under the Banner of King Death: Pirates of the Atlantic (2023); and Revolution by Fire: New York’s Afro-Irish Uprising of 1741 (2024)Paul Buhle, retired Senior Lecturer at Brown University, is the authorized biographer of Pan African giant C .L.R. James and radical historian William Appleman Williams. Since 2005 he has edited more than a dozen nonfiction graphic novels, including Studs Terkel’s Working (an adaptation of the totemic oral history), A Peoples History of the American Empire (an adaptation of Zinn), The Beats, and Red Rosa (Luxemburg). He lives in Providence, Rhode Island.David Lester illustrated the award-winning 1919: A Graphic History of the Winnipeg General Strike (published in English, German and French editions). His poster of anti-war protester Malachi Ritscher was exhibited at The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Forthcoming in 2025, Lester has a chapter in the anthology Partisans: A Graphic History of Anti-fascist Resistance (Between The Lines), edited by Paul Buhle and Raymond Tyler. He lives in Vancouver, Canada.Marcus Rediker is Distinguished Professor of Atlantic History at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the author of numerous prize-winning books that have been translated into nineteen languages worldwide. He worked with director Tony Buba to make the documentary film Ghosts of Amistad, about the memory of the Amistad Rebellion of 1839 in Sierra Leone. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

(W) Peter Meriton (A) David Wright. In the early 1950s David Wright made an unusual career move for a successful commercial and pinup artist – he turned to comics. An early product of his new direction was the strip Judy, which he began in 1953 with John Hunter (writing as Peter Meriton) providing scripts. Judy is a standard adventure strip for the time – a young, beautiful girl is thrust into danger with her partner, Ricky, and their treasure-hunting adventures take them to exotic locales all over the world in a series of loosely-plotted melodramas. Judy is not quite Carol Day, due to weaker plots and cardboard characters, but maintains a strong appeal because of the art and its adventure premise, and it was a great vehicle for Wright’s beautiful cheesecake panels. In our view, it’s a minor gem by one of the greatest strip artists to practice the art and is well worth fans’ attention. Although originally printed in black and white, the source tearsheets are scanned and printed in full colour to help reflect the original artwork. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
