The winner of the 2001 Eisner Award for Best New Graphic Album. Sacco spent five months in Bosnia in 1996, immersing himself in the human side of life during wartime, researching stories that are rarely found in conventional news coverage, emerging with this astonishing first-person account. Praised by The New York Times, Brill's Content and Publishers Weekly, Safe Area Gorazde is the long-awaited and highly sought after 240-page look at war in the former Yugoslavia. Sacco (the critically-acclaimed author of Palestine) spent five months in Bosnia in 1996, immersing himself in the human side of life during wartime, researching stories that are rarely found in conventional news coverage. The book focuses on the Muslim-held enclave of Gorazde, which was besieged by Bosnian Serbs during the war. Sacco lived for a month in Gorazde, entering before the Muslims trapped inside had access to the outside world, electricity or running water. Safe Area Gorazde is Sacco's magnum opus and with it he is poised too become one of America's most noted journalists. The book features an introduction by Christopher Hitchens, political columnist for The Nation and Vanity Fair. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

The story of a man driven to the edge - and beyond - by the world around him. But if he's the good guy, then who is the bad guy? Bruce Barnes is a schoolteacher having yet another shit day. His students are a disrespectful nightmare, gleefully relishing the misery they put him through. But today is even worse than usual, and after a particularly grim run-in with a student, he heads to the break room to bum a smoke off another member of the faculty. After lighting up, he's told the cigarette is laced with amphetamines. From there, Bruce rides his 'rage snake' from the classroom to the ends of the cosmos and back - fighting, fucking, shooting, racing, and tripping his way from one impulsive move to the next. Reminiscent of films like Falling Down and shows like Breaking Bad, What We Mean By Yesterday is a black comedy descent into madness, a revenge horror/ fantasy that gives new meaning to the phrase 'bad trip.' What We Mean By Yesterday began as a daily comic strip, one page per day, posted on Marra's Instagram (@benjamin_marra). Originally begun as an experiment in drawing faster and looser, it quickly became one of the more popular pandemic era webcomics, followed by over 20,000 readers daily. Night Business is a tale of street justice from the author of The Terror Assaulter. A killer is committing extreme acts of violence on exotic dancers and only one man has a will powerful enough to stop this psychopath: Johnny Timothy. 1980s trash culture is refracted through Marra's brain to become a nasty brew about serial killers, vigilante strippers, and dangerous men raining street justice upon their enemies. This is the long-awaited collection of Marra's career-launching cult comic book series, including the never-published conclusion! (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

American Blood is a collection of cartoonist Benjamin Marra's (Terror Assaulter) provocative short stories from the past several years. 1980s trash culture and exploito entertainment are filtered through the prism of Marra's brain, producing a nasty brew of revenge, power and passion- all of the things that America celebrates and for which it is scorned. This is the definitive assembling of Marra's most underground work. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Marin County, 1978. In this graphic novel, Clara and Wendy are two teens getting high one night alone at home. Before the night ends, they've disappeared - until five months later, when Clara is found, disheveled, in Death Valley National Park. From Clara's mysterious reappearance in Death Valley, Disciples cuts to the present day, where stories of 'The California Cult' and its enigmatic - and never-caught - leader, Billy Joe, are as much a part of the popular culture as the Manson Family. Clara, the lone survivor of the cult, has adopted a new identity to protect her and her daughter, Wren. And she mostly does, until one night when the past and present horrifically collide. Disciples is a seamless collaboration between cartoonist Ben Marra and filmmakers David Birke and Nicholas McCarthy. Birke and McCarthy's script celebrates and reinvents a cult film ethos. It combines the best of 1970s era eerie-thriller-terror movies in a fresh and revelatory way, similar to how Marra has continued/reinvented the work of Abel Ferrara and George Cosmatos in graphic novels like Night Business. Available for the first time in English, this first-ever Dutch graphic novel is a tour-deforce in all its 1960s psychedelic, pop art, and playfully erotic glory. The characters' emotions drive the anti-capitalist, dystopian narrative in Iris: A Novel for Viewers, the earliest graphic novel produced in the Netherlands. A young woman, Iris, has her heart set on a singing career, and, despite her boyfriend Mark's warnings, is seduced by the capitalist producer, 'dream lover M.G.' He molds her into a megastar, which leaves Mark peddling her merch: a life-sized Iris (sex) doll. Attempts to rescue Iris come to nothing; all they accomplish is allowing the dream lover to go on playing his games. Thé Tjong-Khing's Iris marks the peak of his career as a comics artist. He and scriptwriter Lo Hartog van Banda wanted to reach the socially motivated young people of the late 1960s, who were growing up with comics and television. Khing's style here, drawn with virtuoso élan, shows an affinity with his contemporaries, such as Guy Peellaert, and Iris herself is reminiscent of Barbarella. This edition includes an afterword by graphic designer and colorist Rudy Vrooman, which provides fascinating context about the historical and artistic significance of the work and its restoration process. The first 21st century English language translation of Italian master Attilio Micheluzzi, a rousing adventure story that takes place in the Middle East during World War II. The first act of this thrilling two-part adventure tale takes place in Beirut in 1941, when renegade journalist Marcel Labrume crosses paths with the beautiful and mysterious American millionaire Carol Gibson, who the Germans suspect of being a spy. With the help of Labrume, the young woman works to deliver a Jewish man wanted by the Germans to Palestine. Then, in 1942, Marcel Labrume is captured during the Battle of Bir Hacheim and becomes a prisoner of war. With his usual style and aplomb, and by the skin of his teeth, Labrume manages to narrowly escape death. Marcel Labrume is Fantagraphics' first entry in its planned Micheluzzi library, which will reprint all of his most significant works. Micheluzzi is one of the most iconic graphic stylists of the European comics scene known for his elegant line and stunning draftsmanship. He drew many graphic novels between 1974 and 1990, mostly of adventurous stories grounded in historical reality with a patina of romanticism, in the tradition of Milton Caniff and Hugo Pratt. Micheluzzi's artwork in these Fantagraphics editions have been meticulously and lovingly restored by the artist's daughter Agnes Micheluzzi and will be the finest reproductions in the artist's career. This groundbreaking work ingeniously isolates the separate building blocks of the language of comics through the deconstruction of a single Nancy strip from 1959. No other book on comics has taken such a simple yet methodical approach to laying bare how the medium really works. In addition, How to Read Nancy is a thoroughly researched history of how comics are made, from their creation at the drawing board to their ultimate destination at the bookstore. Perfect for students, academics, scholars, and casual fans. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

In a uniquely told immigrant story, visual artist Frances Jetter connects her own life to her ancestors' and their ties to the labor movement. The narrative begins with Abram, a passionate advocate in his union but a tyrant at home, revealing the contradictions that make up his life and so many others. Some pages depict the struggle of workers, others are haunting vignettes of abandoned dolls and forgotten friends. It's also a love letter to Jetter's mother who hovers in the artist's mind like a ghost. There is a profound, understated moral power in Jetter's remembrance of loved ones, etching their essences in the same linoleum material that made up the floors of her childhood. The definitive edition of the Great American Grunge Graphic Novel, now collected in paperback for the first time! Peter Bagge, along with the Hernandez brothers and Daniel Clowes, is one of the primary architects of the alternative comics genre that exploded in the 1980s and 1990s. His compelling and best-selling comic book series Hate chronicled the exploits of Buddy Bradley and his gang of lovable losers through the rise and fall of the grunge era, and beyond. Going beyond mere satire, Bagge's observations helped fashion the aesthetics and attitudes of the only significant youth movement to emerge from the Pacific Northwest. A contemporary review by Bruce Barcott in the Seattle Weekly stated, 'Twenty years from now, when people want to know what it was like to be young in 1990s Seattle, the only record we'll have is Peter Bagge's Hate.' The Complete Hate is a new paperback series that includes the original 30-issue run from 1990-1998, the nine subsequent Hate Annuals, and tons of other Hate-related comics, illustrations, and ephemera created for books, magazines, comics, toys, and other merchandise. Bagge combined his cartoony drawing style with uncomfortably real Gen X characters, and the comic books resonated with readers. Vol. 1 collects the first major arc of the series, (Hate 1-15), focusing on young Buddy Bradley's travails in early 1990s Seattle, with a lengthy introduction by Bagge. Each volume contains new covers, endpapers, title pages, and other surprises by the author. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
