Working in a style dear to him and heavy with uncompromising improvisation, this sketchbook weaves between casual and intense graphic styles and was drawn by Moebius between 1997 and 2009. The protagonist of this pseudo-historical story, Major Grubert, evolves both philosophically and humouristically in a context echoing the brilliant 'Inside Moebius' series. Taking another journey through the fabulous web like world of the Airtight Garage, several guest appearances are slipped between the pages of this book, including the likes of Lorenzo Mattotti, François Avril, André Juillard, William Vance, Sylvio Cadelo, as well as Isabelle Giraud and their children, Raphaël and Nausicaä. Originally published in Thriller Picture Library issues 66, 105, 108 and 145, these four tales are rendered by four very different artists. In The Rogue's Moon Philip Mendoza splendidly captures the brutality and mendaciousness of cut-throat pirates. Reg Bunn's Captain Kidd of the Spanish Main has the feel of good, old-fashioned swashbuckling adventure, so prevalent in the movies of the 1950s. In The Sea Hawk, Robert Forrest brings the world of the Barbary pirates to fierce, vigorous life with his atmospheric and authentically-realised drawings. Vigorously drawn with a great sense of movement, The Fortunes of Captain Blood was John Millar Watt's very first adventure strip. Not content drawing all 64 pages of the comic, he also painted the cover! (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

All four of the stories in this collection were drawn by the great Ruggero Giovannini and were originally published in Thriller Picture Library issues 187, 270, 286 and 327 between 1957 and 1960. Today, Giovannini is mainly remembered in England for the many western, adventure and historical comic strips he drew in a realistic style, packed with plenty of action on each page. His style, inspired by Milton Caniff and Will 'Red Barry' Gould, has a way of telling a story which is fast-paced, occasionally using heavy shadows, and accompanied with his quickly rendered, yet effective, inking. Equally at ease in any time period, from Ancient Rome to the Wild West, we are pleased to bring Giovannini's dynamic artwork before a modern audience. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Limited to 500 copies. Jo is a typical adventure strip for the time and very similar in its premise to Judy – a young, beautiful girl is thrust into danger with her partner, and their adventures take them to exotic locales in a series of loosely plotted melodramas. Jo is somewhat distinguished from Judy in the quality of the art. While the early episodes of Judy are a warmup for Wright, in Jo he has fully gotten his footing and the art shines from the first day.Our source material is tearsheets, and they are not the ideal source for reprinting strips. However, original art and proofs are unavailable (as far as we know they are not extant). We have adjusted contrast, lightness and black levels to provide as consistent and enjoyable experience as possible. If you are familiar with our book  David Wright's Judy you will notice that the reproduction is whiter and brighter than in Judy, mainly due to the difference in source material. Like Judy, we believe Jo is a minor gem by one of the greatest strip artists to practice the art and well worth fans' attention in spite of the limitations of our source. This is the complete run of Jo, comprising episodes 1-87, compiled from the original tearsheets, with printed endpapers. Four complete stories, eighty-seven episodes! (immagine)

Collectors often ask what makes the Carol Day comic strip, an obscure and seldom seen newspaper strip from the United Kingdom, so special to a small but growing band of fanatics. The strip hasn't been significantly reprinted and it never achieved wide circulation in newspapers. This book presents, for the first time, the full range of Carol Day art, from Wright's first story to his last, with examples from every story. We have gathered 136 outstanding Carol Day examples from across David Wright's run to display. All are reproduced from the original art to present the flavor of the strip and the magnitude of Wright's achievement. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

You'd better bathe in garlic, grab a crucifix and wrap up warm, for this most spooktacular, edition of illustrators. This 200 page festival of fright delves into the darkest recesses of EC lore with an in-depth look at the life of the most reclusive of the EC gang-as EC scholar Grant Geissman describes Graham Ingels-'Mr Horror Himself.' Further light is shed by the reminiscences of fan and fellow EC scholar Don Vaughan as well as Ann Tyler, who attended Ingels classes during the period when he was tutoring painters. For Warren fans (and we know there are many of you out there) we have a contribution from J. David Spurlock, in a feature about Basil and David's friendship with the great man. And from the UK we have Shane Oakley. Once seen, never forgotten-that's Shane's art in a nutshell. Grab yourself a copy of the Illustrators Halloween Spooktacular, plump up your coffin pillow, shake out the worms and maggots from your shroud, and snuggle down for the ultimate fright-fest! (W) W.E. Johns (A) Ron Embleton & Mike Western Deluxe Collectors’ Limited Edition of 400 copies. The long-awaited reprints of the complete Biggles adventures by Ron Embleton and Mike Western from the pages of TV Express Weekly. James Bigglesworth, that most iconic of aviation adventurers, was created by W.E. Johns for the first issue of Popular Flying magazine, published in April 1932, and popular he certainly was… and still is! In April 1960, Granada began showing its now barely remembered Biggles TV programme, which meant that the character could now, legitimately, appear in TV Express Weekly, which he did some five months later. Here we present all the stories from TV Express Weekly and an additional 8-page story drawn by Embleton from the 1962 TV Express Annual. Chocks away! (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

In 1962 Frank Bellamy was asked to draw a new Roman epic strip for the Eagle, written by Tom Tully. Bellamy had previously honed his artistic skills on Robin Hood and King Arthur in the Swift and The Happy Warrior, the Story of Winston Churchill, Montgomery of Alamein, Marco Polo and Fraser of Africa, also in the Eagle. At the pinnacle of his artistic skills, this new commission gave him a unique opportunity. The new strip Heros the Spartan was being presented on the centre double page spread of the Eagle. This enormous canvas gave Bellamy a format few comic strip artists ever achieve or even dream of. The double page format enabled Bellamy to create the greatest comic strip adventure ever presented to the public. He excelled himself with revolutionary page and panel design and dramatic ink line work all in glorious colour and his ink lines and colour work on this strip have yet to be equalled by any other artist on any strip. Universally regarded as THE greatest British comic strip ever produced, the art has never before been reprinted since its initial publication in 1962. This super deluxe edition includes an additional 24 pages of sharp reproductions of original Heros art. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Synopsis James Fenimore Cooper's poignant tale superbly presented as a comic strip by the talented artists Cecil Doughty and Ruggero Giovannini. Set in 1757, when France and Great Britain battled for control of North America, it is the story of the two daughters of Colonel Munro, commander of a beleaguered fort. The girls, Cora and Alice, are rescued from an ambush by Hawkeye, a hunter, and his two Mohican companions, Chingachgook and his son, Uncas. The first adaptation in this book was drawn and painted by renowned Italian artist Ruggero Giovannini and appeared in Tell Me Why in 1968. The second version, from Look and Learn, was drawn in fine and authentic detail by Cecil Doughty and was originally published in 1980. Though taken from the same source material, both versions differ in more ways than just the look of their artwork. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
