Schoolyard scuffles. Seedy matinees. Run-ins with inept riot cops. Representation Immobilized is an unflinching look through the smudged lenses of Rick Trembles' glasses at his early years in Montreal. After a midnight move from a crumbling apartment Trembles gradually started bringing all his childhood belongings back, bit by bit, which started triggering memories from his past. Worried about them fading from memory as time wore on, he took the opportunity to document them before they could vanish. One of his last entries in this series questioned the nature of selective memory, why certain inanities from one's past might resonate more than others/ (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Before the beekeeper arrived, the Crimson Quays was just a well-appointed tourist trap: a luxury travel resort replete with swimming pools, musical performances, and amusement park rides. However, the resort's crowning glory-the very feature that drew the beekeeper to the island in the first place-was the zoo. Although the beekeeper, a biologist by trade, was tasked with the construction of the zoo, he was rarely spotted at resort events. Instead, he spent his evenings chasing other zoological pursuits-specifically, he was attempting to crossbreed a new species of wolf that would thrive in the resort's arid climate. The beekeeper's odd behavior went mostly unnoticed... until the night the animals got out. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels Annullato/esaurito (Cancelled by Publisher)

When Lester LaFleur's relationship is upended by a breakup with his girlfriend, he decides to leave the city for good. With his guitar on his back and cowboy boots on his feet, Lester heads west across Canada, playing his hurtin' songs in empty taverns and to anyone who cares to listen. As Lester travels across the country, he meets others who appreciate his music and share his experiences-and develops a deep kinship with his fellow drifters. As they ride together toward their unknown fortunes, adventures ensue. Cartoonist Lorenz Peters uses gentle humour and expressive lines to explore the lifestyle of a travelling musician-and discovers that sometimes, home is the open road and family is the people you meet along the way. Olive's post-secondary education isn't what they'd planned. Instead of college, they spend five days a week, eight hours a day at what Olive calls 'Food School': a full-time outpatient program for eating disorder recovery where they learn, talk, and cry about eating disorders as part of a survivor support group. Intensely committed to recovery, Olive confronts the secretive, self-destructive, and sometimes tragically comedic nature of their illness, while struggling with the complexities of modern mental health care. With support and perspective from their roommate, a fellow patient, and their partner, Olive learns to open up about their abusive relationship with food and exercise-and finds ways to cope with the reality of living in a society that actively encourages disordered eating. You'll laugh despite yourself at Howard Chackowicz's twisted, funny, yet surprisingly poignant cartoons. A mix of New Yorker gags gone awry, underground comix and nightmarish kids' books illustrations, Howie Action Comics represents many years of the artist's output. Often called a 'cartoonist's cartoonist' Chackowicz was nominated for a Harvey Award for his early work on Dennis Eichhorn's Real Stuff, and his painted comic mural art was officially selected for the Angoul (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

(W/A) David Collier Since publishing his first story in R. Crumb's Weirdo magazine, David Collier has been known for his thoughtful comic essays. Chimo is an account of Collier's decision to re-enlist in the Canadian army and go through basic training again at age 40, leaving his new family behind. He intends to get to Afghanistan and follow in the footsteps of artists who produced a body of work while serving in the Canadian War Artists Program. It is a poignant account of aging and mortality but, in true Collier fashion, digresses into scenes of jumping rope and the story of his childhood hero, skier 'Jackrabbit' Johannsen. (W/A) Jimmy Beaulieu Jimmy Beaulieu is the founder of the publishing house M?canique G?n?rale, and Suddenly Something Happened is his first book in English, forming the definitive edition of this autobiographical work. Told in richly rendered pencil lines in front of masterfully drawn backdrops portraying Quebec's urban and rural landscapes, these are the complete non-adventures of Jimmy Beaulieu, an easygoing artist with an appreciation for the finer things in life, such as the balconies of Montreal in spring time and station wagons with fake wood paneling. The comics community in Quebec has long been heralded as unique, blending the clear line aesthetic of Europe with the underground influences of North America. Think Tintin meets R. Crumb. This volume is a companion to the BDANG imprint, to give critical context to the history and breadth of the work. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror Annullato/esaurito (Lateness)

Bunjevac's stunning debut book of stories is a perfect blend of the American underground and the European diaspora. Featuring an introduction by Jay Lynch. 'Heartless is just amazing! I laughed out loud a lot. It is chock full of great stuff and I'm hard to please! Nina Bunjevac's art is a pleasure to look at. The writing is seriously demented, but in a totally brilliant, highly entertaining way. It is its own thing, imitating no one.' - Kim Deitch. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

When Danish journalist Michael Nybrandt was cycling across Tibet he discovered the Tibetan people's unique passion for soccer and the heartbreaking treatment they received at the hands of the Chinese government. He dreamed of a Tibetan national soccer team to create awareness about the Tibetan cause. It took years of preparation, overcoming bureaucratic problems and political turmoil, before Tibet could play their first international match against Greenland. A graphic memoir lamenting the loss of train travel, the grip of family, mortality, art, and the human condition, with many other digressions thrown in for good measure. Collier's dream is to travel with his wife and son across the country by rail, before it is too late. Through the passing landscape he introduces his family (and the reader) to his old way of life and tries to track down the many characters with whom he has lost touch. A portrait of a Northern mining town in the 1970s. Shifts in the uranium mine last 100 days, followed by two weeks spent adjusting to civilization before returning. The pay is good, the work is grueling and everyone drinks heavily on a Saturday night. A quiet but powerful read, rendered in gorgeous pencil like the dust of the mine, revealing lives on the page.
