Tom Waltz (w); Nathan St. John (a & c) Finding Peace contains three stories, each unique and yet all connected by a single, tragic thread-the desperate search for peace in times of both declared and undeclared war. Set in an unnamed country ravaged by civil war, the three stories are presented in reverse chronological order, showing where things are before finally depicting where things have been. The reader will ultimately decide if the situation has improved, or whether the dangers and tragedies of civil war only wear a different mask during times of peacekeeping-a new disguise that simply hides the same, deadly monster underneath. Written by Children of the Grave's Tom Waltz and featuring stylized art and cover by Nathan St. John. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

by Noel Sickles, with biographical text by Bruce Canwell Noel Sickles drew comics for three brief years, yet his groundbreaking work on the 1930s aviation adventure series Scorchy Smith is a milestone in the history of newspaper comic strips. Over the past 70 years, however, readers have seen only occasional excerpts of this seminal work. Now IDW's Library of American Comics presents Scorchy Smith and The Art of Noel Sickles, a comprehensive, oversized 352-page volume that collects, for the first time, every Sickles Scorchy strip, from December 1933 through November 1936. It also features extensive DVD-style extras examining Sickles's life and the decades-long influence of his work, while also showcasing the breadth of his career as one of America's foremost magazine illustrators. Pete Hamill observed, 'Sickles was the first comics artist to use the brush boldly, in an impressionistic way' as he pioneered the use of chiaroscuro and Craftint shading in comics. Together with his studio partner, Milton Caniff of Terry and the Pirates fame, Sickles created a method of dramatic comics storytelling and illustration that influenced generations of artists who followed. Longtime Spider-Man artist John Romita noted that during the 1950s, 'the whole industry was copying from photostats of the Scorchy Smith dailies by Noel Sickles.' Having blazed a trail through the comics world, Sickles left the medium in favor of a 40-year career as one of America's most successful magazine illustrators. A regular at Life magazine, his work also appeared in Look, Reader's Digest, National Geographic, and the Saturday Evening Post. Sickles won the National Cartoonist Society's Advertising and Illustration Award in both 1960 and 1962. He eventually settled in Tucson, Arizona and turned to painting, winning further acclaim for his Western canvases. Edited by Dean Mullaney. Designed by Mullaney and Dale Crain. Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Fell) creates an all-eerie and humorous new series. Things are awakening in the city. Things that have a nasty habit of leaving mutilated bodies in their wake and it all reeks of demons and dark gods up to no good. Owing a favor to his lazy ghost cop buddy Trotsky, Wormwood, the gentleman corpse and his oddball entourage are brought in to investigate the case (or at least hopefully not stuff it up too much). This collection compiles the first miniseries, the original 'Taster' issue, and covers, sketches, pin-ups and other cocktail napkin scribblings from Templesmith (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Ben Templesmith (w, a, c) Just when Wormwood thought he could finally have that quiet drink without worrying about the world coming to an end, or a friend with a parasitic infection trying to kill him, The Brotherhood of the Calamari decide to crash the party. Since their last meeting, they've tracked him across the thousand million dimensional possibilities of existence-and this time the entire Squideeverse is with them. Wormwood is going to learn the hard way he can't keep running from his problems as his oldest foe now threatens his favorite watering hole, Earth, with absorption into the Calamari group mind. Complete with additional sketches and doodlings from the twisted mind of Scream Award-nominated writer/artist (and 30 Days of Night co-creator) Ben Templesmith.
