Stephen Murphy is an American comic book writer and editor known for his work on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. With Michael Zulli, he was co-creator of the critically acclaimed 1980s independent comic The Puma Blues. Alongside fellow Mirage staffer Ryan Brown, he revamped the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures title for Archie Comics, beginning in 1989 with issue #5. In their hands, the comic immediately diverged from the cartoon series into unique new story arcs, often incorporating social, environmentalist, and animal rights themes. It also introduced several new characters of various races and backgrounds, including humans, mutants, aliens, and other anthropomorphic creatures. The stories were often seen as “deeper” and more “serious” than the cartoon. During that period, Murphy co-created the characters Jagwar, Nova Posse, Snake-Eyes, and Sarnath and united several of the series’ recurring characters as a separate team, the Mighty Mutanimals. He wrote the majority of his work on TMNT Adventures under the name Dean Clarrain.

In the history of Rock ‘n Roll, no performer ever defined a style like Elvis. From his rockabilly suits of the 1950s to the jewelled jumpsuits of the 1970s, the King’s on-stage fashion became as iconic as his music. Now, for the first time, the Graceland archives open their doors for this once-in-a-lifetime look at the stagewear of the King. From the now-iconic gold lamé suit in the 1950s and the leather suit from the 1968 Comeback Special to the last jumpsuit Elvis wore onstage in Indianapolis, this comprehensive book contains more than 150 pieces of stagewear spanning Elvis’s entire career. Stunning jumpsuits, beautifully detailed capes, numerous belts, two-piece suits, studded boots, jewelry, and even chokers that were created for Elvis but never worn on stage are all featured in beautiful new photography created especially for this book. Also included are suits that until now have never been seen as their complete sets, including three Cisco Kid two-piece outfits worn in Las Vegas in 1971, and two of Elvis’s Dude Suits, worn in Las Vegas in 1972. Detailed information from the archives about the suits, including the definitive list of names for the jumpsuits, and fascinating historical context and insights about the detailing and construction of the pieces from noted costume historian Karan Feder, accompany stunning detail photography of each piece. Lavishly illustrated with new photography of each piece in the archive, images of Elvis on stage in the pieces and album covers on which they appear, rare sketches from costume designer Bill Belew, and more, this beautiful book is a look at the King’s style like never before. BEYOND THE STAGE: Explore rare images of Elvis on stage and backstage in his iconic outfits. NEVER BEFORE SEEN: Many items featured in Elvis Presley Dressed to Rock have been supplied by Graceland’s private archives and have never been seen in print. ICONIC PIECES: From Elvis’ famous gold lamé suit to his iconic caped jumpsuit worn at the Aloha from Hawaii performance, Elvis’s most memorable outfits and accessories are on display in this book. OFFICIAL ACCOUNT: Created in collaboration with the Elvis Presley estate and Graceland, fans of Elvis will get an exclusive look into the life of one of America’s most iconic figures (by Karan Feder, 256 pages, 305 x 241mm) NOTE: This item may be available in high street stores prior to comic shops (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

by (W) Art Spiegelman
For the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Maus, the terrorist attacks of September 11th were both highly personal and intensely political. In the Shadow of No Towers is a masterful and moving account of the events and aftermath of that tragic day. Spiegelman and his family bore witness to the attacks in their lower Manhattan neighborhood: his teenage daughter had started school directly below the towers days earlier, and they had lived in the area for years. But the horrors they survived that morning were only the beginning for Spiegelman, as his anguish was quickly displaced by fury at the U.S. government, which shamelessly co-opted the events for its own preconceived agenda. He responded in the way he knows best. In an oversized, two-page-spread format that echoes the scale of the earliest newspaper comics (which Spiegelman says brought him solace after the attacks), he relates his experience of the national tragedy in drawings and text that convey—with his singular artistry and his characteristic provocation, outrage, and wit—the unfathomable enormity of the event itself, the obvious and insidious effects it had on his life, and the extraordinary, often hidden changes that have been enacted in the name of post-9/11 national security and that have begun to undermine the very foundation of American democracy.
Art Spiegelman is cofounder/editor of Raw, the acclaimed magazine of avant-garde comics and graphics. From 1992 to 2002, he was a staff artist and writer for The New Yorker, which published his powerful black-on-black 9/11 cover a few days after the event. His drawings and prints have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the world. Maus received the Pulitzer Prize and was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Spiegelman lives in New York City with his wife, Françoise Mouly, and their two children.

The Wildest Samurai Who Ever LivedTetsuo Hara’s masterful follow-up to the generation-defining Fist of the North Star—a rollicking samurai epic inspired by a real-life legend.Long before the Japan of today, there was a land riven by a century of war between hundreds of feudal lords. Standing astride this most chaotic and storied era in Japanese history was a samurai unlike any other—courageous, free-spirited, and peerless on the battlefield, Keiji Maeda had a bombastic style and a penchant for outrageous antics as well as incredible feats of daring. Beloved by his friends, admired by his enemies, and utterly confounding to authority figures, he went out of his way to break every rule but one—his warrior’s code. Adapted from a classic historical novel by the iconic artist of Fist of the North Star, there’s never been a more thrilling way to experience the golden age of the shogun, samurai, and ninja than this larger-than-life legend of the wildest samurai who ever lived!
