GOLDEN AGE CLASSICS THE SPIRIT HC VOLUME 3 Quality Comics was an American comic book publishing company that operated from 1937 to 1956 and was largely influential in creating the 'Golden Age' of comic books. From 1940–1950, printer Everett M. "Busy" Arnold reprinted Spirit stories under his Quality Comics banner, first individually from 1940–1947 as one of the features in 92 issues of Police Comics and from 1944–1950 as 22 issues of The Spirit. The Spirit is a fictional masked crime fighter created by cartoonist Will Eisner, who fights crime with the blessing of the city's police commissioner Dolan, an old friend. Despite the Spirit's origin as detective/criminologist Denny Colt, his real identity was rarely referred to after his first appearance, and for all intents and purposes he was simply "The Spirit". The stories are presented in a wide variety of styles, from straight forward crime drama and noir to lighthearted adventure, from mystery and horror to comedy and love stories, often with hybrid elements that twisted genre and reader expectations. Comic book stories from the 1940s and 1950s may depict some ethnic and racial prejudices that were oncecommon place in American culture. Such depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. While not representing the publisher's view of today's society, these stories are printed as they were originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. PRE CODE CLASSICS WHITE PRINCESS OF THE JUNGLE HC SLIPCASE EDITION VOL 1 Simmons and his wife came to Kraal of the Tauruti tribe in Africa, with a baby girl, they called Taanda – whose hair was as red as the sunset. They lived with the Tauruti tribe for a long time, until exploring a ruined temple, they were attacked and killed by a tribe called the Jhibuti – whose chief Upatani took the girl Taanda and raised her as his own! She grew up protecting the people and animals from poachers, monsters and witch doctors using her powers and abilities – she was as fast as any beast and as strong as a man. And could swing through the tree like a monkey and often rode a zebra over long distances. She was skilled with a bow, spear and knife. (immagine)
