His other works of note include his collaboration with painter Alex Ross on Kingdom Come, which earned an Eisner Award for Best Limited Series. Waid enjoyed his greatest outpouring of critical acclaim with the Eisner Award-winning Daredevil — which included a revered collaboration with frequent artistic partner Chris Samnee. He later took on such diverse pop-cultural icons as Princess Leia and Archie, and ushered in a new era of greatness for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in All-New, All-Different Avengers. Garney reunited with Aaron on Thor: God of Thunder and then the creator-owned Men of Wrath for Marvel’s Icon imprint.Roger Stern enjoyed well-regarded runs on Amazing Spider-Man, in which he introduced Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau) and the Hobgoblin; Avengers; and Captain America. He launched West Coast Avengers and wrote numerous tie-in miniseries starring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. At DC, he relaunched Atom and co-created Starman (Will Payton) before participating in one of comics’ most shocking events: the 1992 “Death of Superman.†He later returned to Marvel to write Amazing Spider-Man and related titles.Best known as an editor, James Felder wrote stories for several Marvel anthology titles, including Marvel: Shadows and Light, Marvel Comics Presents and What If? After co-plotting issues of Deadpool with Joe Kelly, he wrote the Deadpool Team-Up one-shot, in which the Merc with a Mouth encountered the infamous Beyonder.Having begun his career on G.I. A scared teenager on the run. An infant child some say is humanity’s savior. A former lover whose life is now hobbled by a terrible secret. A law partner accused of a horrible crime. A city overcome by an inscrutable menace. They need a guardian. Someone to protect them. Someone with faith in them. They need the Man Without Fear: Daredevil! Then, brilliant creator David Mack takes the writing baton, introducing Maya Lopez — A.K.A. Echo — into Matt Murdock’s life! Though they’re seemingly kindred souls, their secret identities are very much at odds. Maya seeks her father’s killer — whom the Kingpin identifies as Daredevil! While working at a convenience store in Leonardo, New Jersey, Kevin Smith wrote and directed Clerks, a low-budget independent film financed in part by the sale of his own comic-book collection. Clerks went on to become the surprise indie hit of 1994, grossing more than $1 million and earning Smith a distribution deal with Miramax. Since Clerks, Smith has written and directed more than a half-dozen hit movies — including Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Jersey Girl, Dogma and Clerks 2. A lifelong comics fan, Smith jumped at the opportunity to adapt his Clerks movie characters into a comic-book series for Oni Press, writing Clerks: The Comic Book and a four-issue Jay and Silent Bob miniseries. In 1998, Smith’s longtime friendship with newly appointed Marvel Knights editors Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti led to his critically acclaimed eight-issue run on Daredevil — garnering Smith a Wizard Fan Award, a Harvey Award and an Eagle Award for Best Writer. Smith followed up his debut with a successful revamp of the original Green Arrow for DC Comics in a story hailed as “exhilarating†by Entertainment Weekly. Smith also scripted another famous Marvel icon with Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do. Smith lives in the Hollywood Hills with his wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Harley.David Mack submitted his first Kabuki collection while still in college as his senior writing thesis. (He got an A on the project.) Combining innovative storytelling, painting techniques and page design, Mack has won nearly every major comic-industry award, including the prestigious Eisner Award for Best Painter, and garnered praise from such luminaries as Jim Steranko and The Washington Times. Marvel fans first witnessed Mack’s stylings when his covers graced the legendary Daredevil storyline “Parts of a Hole,†which he also wrote. A few years after teaming with then-new Daredevil writer Brian Michael Bendis on the “Wake Up†arc, he returned to the title for the “Echo: Vision Quest†storyline, which reintroduced readers to the unique character he created in “Parts of a Hole.†Mack continues to write and illustrate his creator-owned series, New York Times Best Seller Kabuki, now published by Marvel’s Icon imprint, and has been nominated for several Eisner, Kirby and Harvey awards. He is also serving as the visual designer and co-producer on the forthcoming Kabuki feature film. Mack wrote the adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s Electric Ant for Marvel, and was nominated for a Writers Guild Award and a Producers Guild Award for his work on Showtime’s Dexter.Classically trained at New York’s prestigious High School of Art and Design, Jimmy Palmiotti began his career as a comic-book inker, gaining a reputation as not only talented, but fast. Collaborating with fellow artist Joe Quesada, Palmiotti lent his skills to such projects as Batman: Sword of Azrael, The Ray and Ninjak. In 1995, Palmiotti and Quesada founded Event Comics, creating the memorable titles Ash and Painkiller Jane. This led to an offer from Marvel Comics to revamp several heroes under the Marvel Knights banner. With writer Kevin Smith and Quesada, Palmiotti’s work on Daredevil became a monumental success. Palmiotti later began to take on comic-book writing chores with a lengthy run on Harley Quinn along with his creator-owned books.Joe Quesada became Marvel’s editor in chief in 2000, instilling an excitement and buzz that had been lacking for years. Quesada began as an artist at Valiant and DC during the early 1990s and soon co-founded Event Comics, introducing original characters Ash and Painkiller Jane. By 1998, Quesada’s reputation as both artist and publisher led to the founding of Marvel’s groundbreaking Marvel Knights imprint, with Quesada illustrating the flagship book, Daredevil. Marvel Knights’ critical and sales success led to Quesada’s appointment as editor in chief and later chief creative officer. The Man Without Fear is behind bars! For the past few years, Matt Murdock’s life has been teetering on the edge of destruction. Blaming himself, Matt runs wild, determined to find out who put his best friend at the end of a knife. This is Daredevil as you’ve never seen him before — unplugged from his own sense of right and wrong, alone in the cold walls of the system he’s spent his life defending — and the only thing on his mind is vengeance! But while Matt is locked up, who’s that running around Hell’s Kitchen pretending to be Daredevil? And what secrets was Foggy keeping?! Award-winning creators Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark begin their acclaimed run — featuring appearances by Bullseye, the Kingpin and the Punisher!COLLECTING: Daredevil (1998) #82-88

Ed Brubaker is one of the most acclaimed writers in comics, a multiple Eisner Award winner. Following fan-favorite runs on Scene of the Crime, Sleeper, Catwoman and Gotham Central for DC, he moved to Marvel. His Captain America relaunch, in which he controversially revived Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier, won over fans new and old, and his revisionist take on the history of Marvel’s mutants in X-Men: Deadly Genesis resulted in a regular gig on Uncanny X-Men, Marvel’s flagship X-title. He and longtime artistic collaborator Michael Lark took up the baton on Daredevil after Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev’s legendary run concluded, and Brubaker jump-started Immortal Iron Fist with co-writer Matt Fraction and artist David Aja. Marvel’s Icon imprint published Brubaker’s creator-owned Criminal and Incognito, and he has gone on to further success at Image Comics with such titles as Fatale, Velvet and The Fade Out. Beyond comics, Brubaker has written for TV’s Westworld and co-created the crime drama Too Old to Die Young.Michael Lark has teamed with writer Ed Brubaker on DC’s Gotham Central and the noir Scene of the Crime, as well as adding a timeworn elegance to the World War II flashbacks in Captain America. But his work with Brubaker on Daredevil set new highs — not only for their collaborative efforts, but for the narrative tapestry of Marvel’s Man Without Fear.Spanish artist David Aja earned his fine-arts degree at the University of Salamanca in 2000, becoming a professional illustrator for newspaper, magazine, publicity and multimedia clients worldwide. His comic-book credits include Marvel’s X-Men Unlimited, Civil War: Choosing Sides, Daredevil, Giant-Size Wolverine, Wolverine: Debt of Death, and a long run with writers Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction on Immortal Iron Fist.

After writing a Warlock reboot, Pak made a splash with the X-Men: Phoenix — Endsong limited series and a lengthy run on Incredible Hulk, highlighted by the “Planet Hulk†storyline and the World War Hulk crossover. In addition to the acclaimed Magneto: Testament and Red Skull: Incarnate limited series, a War Machine revival and the retitled Incredible Hulks, Pak has written Dynamite’s Battlestar Galactica and contributed to Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology. His efforts with co-writer Fred Van Lente include Incredible Hercules, Herc, Heroic Age: Prince of Power, an Alpha Flight relaunch and the Chaos War crossover. In 2003, he self-published the acclaimed graphic novel The Interman and began writing regularly, notably launching Marvel Adventures: The Avengers. Though the series was aimed at younger readers, Parker’s use of offbeat characters such as M.O.D.O.K. and Ego the Living Planet quickly developed a vocal and passionate following among fans of all ages. Parker next revived a classic group of 1950s-era Marvel characters in Agents of Atlas, which quickly became a sleeper hit. Parker revisited the early days of Marvel’s mutants in X-Men: First Class, and enjoyed lengthy runs on both Thunderbolts and Hulk. For DC Comics, he has had success with the nostalgic Batman ’66.An award-winning critic and journalist, Kieron Gillen turned his attention to comics on titles including the critically lauded Phonogram with frequent creative partner Jamie McKelvie — as well as Thor, S.W.O.R.D. and Generation Hope. At Awesome Entertainment, McGuinness participated in a Fighting American revamp with writer Jeph Loeb, who would become a longtime collaborator. A short run on WildStorm’s Mr. Majestic led to a longer one on DC Comics’ Superman and the launch of Superman/Batman with Loeb. Back at Marvel, McGuinness reunited with Loeb for Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America, Hulk and Avengers: X-Sanction before launching Amazing X-Men with Jason Aaron. McGuinness has reteamed with his Deadpool scribe Joe Kelly for Spider-Man/Deadpool and with Aaron on a blockbuster relaunch of Avengers.Veteran artist Paul Pelletier has worked on a range of projects including Marvel collaborations with writer Dan Slott on She-Hulk and Great Lakes Avengers; Tony Bedard and Chris Claremont on Exiles; Dwayne McDuffie on Fantastic Four; Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning on Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy and War of Kings; Greg Pak on Incredible Hulks; and Cullen Bunn on Wolverine.Artist Humberto Ramos made his American comics debut in 1994 with DC’s Impulse, featuring the Flash’s brash grandson. In 1998, Ramos launched the creator-owned Crimson under Wildstorm’s Cliffhanger imprint, illustrating the title for more than two years. He then moved to Marvel, becoming one of the most recognizable and innovative talents in comics. Seamlessly blending both Eastern and Western styles, the artist’s artist has worked on many of Marvel’s most iconic characters — including Spider-Man, Wolverine and the X-Men — in addition to a run on the fan-favorite Runaways. Ramos brought his kinetic artwork to the pages of Extraordinary X-Men and Champions, as well as a magical collaboration with Skottie Young on Strange Academy.Artist Jorge Molina’s Marvel credits include Captain America: Man Out of Time, Avengers: The Initiative, and both the initial A-Force limited series and the first four issues of the ongoing book.
