Before Fredric Wertham and The Seduction of the Innocent (SOTI), before before the infamous Comics Code, the comic book racks at local drug stores and newsstands boasted a plethora of delights highlighted by the good girl adventures of the comic book version of Brenda Starr. These four-color wonders displayed all the finer things loved by comic book buyers: good girls, bondage, a little torture, and other delectable things, which adults thought would corrupt the morals of young and impressionable readers. Now, for the first time in over 50-years, comics fans can read and own these rare comics from another era, digitally restored to perfection and presented in an archival hardcover. This volume presents the remaining four Brenda Starr Pre-Code books, issues #9-12, and the very mod and 1960's version of Brenda drawn and scripted by Dale Messick. by Paul E. Fitzgerald Here's the first penetrating look at Will Eisner's main body of work - strips, covers, illustrations, and designs for PS Magazine - produced in a 21-year period between his memorable and historic run of The Spirit and publication of his acclaimed first graphic novel, A Contract With God, in 1978. Fitzgerald was the magazine's first managing editor, and weaves together parallel stories - Eisner as an artist in expansive change, and the U.S. Army's daringly innovative publication that moved from early perilous survival and bureaucratic brinkmanship to 55 years (and still going) of recognition as a sweepingly successful communications pacesetter. In addition to his work on the Buck Rogers daily strip, he wrote and drew the Sunday version of the feature from 1958 to 1959 creating three continuities: 'Search for Impervium'; 'Supernova Threat'; and 'California Earthquake Plot.' These Sundays have never been reprinted anywhere and now, for the first time, are collected in their entirety together. by Ross Andru & Mike Esposito Love Harvey Kurtzman's original MAD? Then you will have to have Ross Andru and Mike Esposito's historic satire and parody magazine, Get Lost. Originally released in 1953, Get Lost delivered three groundbreaking, laugh-filled issues before Bill Gaines sued the magazine's distributor, shutting down production of the magazine. Even though Gaines lost the lawsuit, Andru and Esposito never produced more Get Lost. Hermes Press' historic reprint collects all three issues of the magazine on heavy coated matte paper together with an introductory essay by noted pop-culture historian Ron Goulart, an interview with Mike Esposito, and tons of documentary material in one volume. For this archival edition Hermes Press has painstakingly reconstructed Get Lost's artwork using the original black-and-white line art and recoloring it from scratch. Mike Esposito says it 'looks better than the original.' MAD's most noteworthy competitor is a treasure to behold for fans of Alfred E. Newman as well as comic book collectors, fans, and anyone looking for a good laugh. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
