You only think you know this story. In 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer, the most notorious serial killer since Jack the Ripper, seared himself into the American consciousness. To the public, Dahmer was a monster who committed unthinkable atrocities. To Derf Backderf, Dahmer was a much more complex figure: a high school friend with whom he had shared classrooms, hallways, and car rides. In My Friend Dahmer, writer-artist Backderf creates a surprisingly sympathetic portrait of a disturbed young man struggling against the morbid urges emanating from the deep recesses of his psyche-a shy kid, a teenage alcoholic, and a goofball who never quite fit in with his classmates. What emerges is a Jeffrey Dahmer that few ever really knew, and readers will never forget. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels Annullato/esaurito (Lateness)

An original look at the philosophy of Jean-Paul Sartre-told in cartoons. As graduates embark on the next phase of their lives, what better way to get them accustomed to the rat race they are about to enter than by introducing them to the philosophy of Jean-Paul Sartre? Three love stories, from budding desire to fading passion, play out within one family on a late summer's day-a day that will change all their lives forever. August 3, 1997. In the bathroom of his suburban home, eight-year-old Lulu is trying on his mom's lipstick. He dreams of kissing his best friend, a neighborhood boy. Meanwhile, his teenage sister, Cam, covers her much-older boyfriend sneaking up to her bedroom by blasting the latest summer hits. In the kitchen, their mother is waiting for their father, who didn't come home last night. On TV, newscasters are announcing the death of Princess Diana.... All Princesses Die Before Dawn is a devastating and richly illustrated slice-of-life graphic novel that has already found critical success in France that does not shy away from addressing homophobia, emotional abuse, and broken families, but remains quietly optimistic about the strength of love and the human spirit. The life of Bobby Fischer (1943-2008) had many unexpected moves-from his solitary childhood to his stratospheric accomplishments in the world of competitive chess, and eventually, his decent into mental illness and disgrace. By the time Fischer was a teen, he had established himself as a loner and dropped out of school. But none of that mattered; he had found his true calling-chess. In 1972, Fischer played what many consider 'the game of the century' against the Soviet Union's chess champion Boris Spassky at the height of the Cold War. Later, Fischer became the youngest-ever US Chess Champion and the game's youngest grandmaster. Never before had chess received such international attention. Fischer, whose sole focus in life up until then was chess, reached the Olympus of chess at 29, and then... he disappeared. Suffering from mental illness, the chess genius became increasingly paranoid, lost in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories-despite the fact that he himself was Jewish-and died as a fugitive in Iceland. With Black & White, author Julian Voloj and illustrator Wagner Willian have crafted a beautiful and fascinating work that reveals Fischer's history while also contextualizing his lasting impact on culture. You only think you know this story. We all have that one friend we grew up with - the strange kid, the class freak, the one whose antics amused and entertained, maybe even alarmed us. Every now and then we might wonder whatever happened to that person. For one cartoonist, that question was answered without warning by every media outlet in the world. Derf Backderf tries to make sense of Jeffrey Dahmer, the future serial killer with whom he shared classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, libraries, and car rides. Four thousand years ago, Jerusalem was a small, isolated village perched on a ridge line between the Mediterranean and the desert. Today it is a bustling metropolis with almost one million inhabitants, attracting visitors from all over the world. The story of Jerusalem is in many ways the story of the development of Western civilization-religions were born on its streets, conquerors laid siege to it, and great empires clashed over it. Considered the cradle of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam-the three major monotheistic religions-and a spiritual capital for more than half of humanity. Tracing its history gives us a unique perspective into the histories of these different religious identities. In this 256-page graphic novel, written by renowned historian Vincent Lemire and illustrated by cartoonist and animator Christophe Gaultier introduce us to the people, priests, craftsmen, architects, and residents who have built the history of Jerusalem over the last five millennia. You only think you know this story. We all have that one friend we grew up with - the strange kid, the class freak, the one whose antics amused and entertained, maybe even alarmed us. That friend is invariably left behind when we become adults, faded into memory and filed away with our yearbooks and other teenage mementos.
