Produced by Aaron Spelling in 1965, Honey West was TV's first liberated female - a crack private investigator and an expert in martial arts - and beholden to no man. The beautiful Anne Francis was cast in the central role as the sexy, wise-cracking star, assisted by her cantankerous sidekick Sam Bolt (John Ericson), and somewhat flaky live-in, Aunt Meg (Irene Hervey). In 30 black-and-white episodes, Honey battles her way through the underworld by dint of her wits, judo prowess, and killer looks, aided by an arsenal of high-tech gimmicks, a sexy Cobra sports car, and an ocelot named Bruce! This ground-breaking book examines the series in detail with interviews of the surviving cast members, and listings of websites, addresses, bibliographies, episode synopses, and an appendix. Profusely illustrated. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

In the world of adult cinema, one name stands out above all others: John Holmes. For nearly 20 years, from 1967 to 1987, Holmes reigned as the undisputed king of X-rated films, having appeared in a record 2,200 plus productions, from the landmark Johnny Wadd movies to the legendary Insatiable with Marilyn Chambers. To a legion of fans world-wide, he was known as 'Mr. Big.' To industry insiders, he was 'Mr. Nice Guy.' Yet for all of his fame and notoriety, Holmes remained an intensely private person and a mystery man. In a startlingly frank autobiography, Porn King is a sizzling, sensuous, fast-paced story laced with controversy. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

'Grindhouse' is a term that refers to theaters that primarily showed exploitation films. There were a handful of these theaters on 42nd Street in New York City. These theaters showed a variety of films that generally featured sex, violence, and bizarre subject matter. These included slasher films, X-rated movies, badly-dubbed Hong Kong chop socky pictures, blaxploitation, and general exploitation films. Gods of Grindhouse: Interviews with Exploitation Filmmakers contains conversations with a variety of filmmakers associated with such films, including key figures such as Roger Corman, Herschell Gordon Lewis, Larry Cohen, David F. Friedman, William Lustig, Ted V. Mikels, and others. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

(W) William Schoell The Silver Age of Comics looks at super-hero comic books that were published in the mid-fifties to late sixties, a period when super-heroes, most of whom had been replaced by science fiction, crime, and romance comics, once again gained popularity and grew to virtually take over the whole comic book industry. The book not only looks at popular and lesser-known series including those from smaller publishers such as Charlton and Gold Key, commenting on the most interesting stories, it also examines the artists who were prominent during this period, and looks at why their work could be so effective on different strips. The book also looks at how different comics reflected - or didn't reflect - the changing mores and attitudes of the turbulent times when civil rights, women's rights, and other social movements got more and more attention. Sam Slade didn't believe in Gorgo until he saw the monster's hideous scaly face, its slimy green talons and the massive mouth that could swallow a killer whale. If this was not enough he was to have even bigger problems in his future. Released by MGM in 1961, Gorgo is that oft-told cinematic fable of the giant beast that threatens humanity. This volume contains the shooting script and the original tie-in novel by Carson Bingham and a production background by Bill Cooke. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979-1981) premiered on American television in September 1979. The story followed a twentieth century astronaut revived after 500 years of suspended animation to become Earth's greatest hero. Created by Glen A. Larson and Leslie Stevens, the new series starred Gil Gerard, Erin Gray, and Felix Silla. Gerard looked to the past to prepare for his future production. He hit on the idea of recycling artifacts into a less showy series that premiered to the delight of audiences. Join Buck and the galaxy's most beautiful women in a richly researched work that soars at light speed beyond other Buck Rogers books. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

In 1963, Warner Bros. closed down their long-running cartoon facility that had produced such memorable merrymakers as the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons. Director/producer Friz Freleng and executive David H. DePatie were able to lease the former Warner cartoons studio on California Street in Burbank, complete with equipment and supplies. They struggled to keep their small animation studio running against odds and obstacles such as rising costs, never anticipating how they would soon style a series of cartoon characters that would paint memorable colors over movie animation history. When director Blake Edwards produced The Pink Panther, he envisioned a cartoon character of the same name to illustrate the opening credits sequence. Edwards hired Freleng and DePatie, together with artists at their DePatie-Freleng Enterprises studio, to design the animated sequence. The crafty magenta furry feline minced his way into moviegoer's hearts. The inspiration behind the ink was the people that worked at the DePatie-Freleng Enterprises (DFE) animation studio. Their hilarious cartoons caused a generation of moviegoers to rock theaters with laughter. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror
