You'd better bathe in garlic, grab a crucifix and wrap up warm, for this most spooktacular, edition of illustrators. This 200 page festival of fright delves into the darkest recesses of EC lore with an in-depth look at the life of the most reclusive of the EC gang-as EC scholar Grant Geissman describes Graham Ingels-'Mr Horror Himself.' Further light is shed by the reminiscences of fan and fellow EC scholar Don Vaughan as well as Ann Tyler, who attended Ingels classes during the period when he was tutoring painters. For Warren fans (and we know there are many of you out there) we have a contribution from J. David Spurlock, in a feature about Basil and David's friendship with the great man. And from the UK we have Shane Oakley. Once seen, never forgotten-that's Shane's art in a nutshell. Grab yourself a copy of the Illustrators Halloween Spooktacular, plump up your coffin pillow, shake out the worms and maggots from your shroud, and snuggle down for the ultimate fright-fest! BOOK PALACE

In August 1914 much of Europe was pitched into a war which would eclipse all others in terms of its industrialised ferocity. In an era where photography and film recording were still in their infancy, much of the news was relayed through the work of reportage artists. Pre-eminent amongst such artists was Fortunino Matania who was The Sphere's artist-on-the-spot for events ranging from coronations to colliery disasters. Sent to a variety of fronts to cover the conflict, his illustrations created a gripping and, at times, life-affirming testimony to those traumatic times. For the first time ever, this book collects those images in large format so that they can be viewed as they were intended. OVER 150 paintings and drawings on the World War 1 conflict, depicting all its horrors and special moments. His work inspired many contemporary artists: Annigoni and Russell Flint both visited his studio, and many comic strip artists collected his work including Al Williamson, Roy Krenkel, Frank Frazetta, John Bolton, Bernie Wrightson as well as film directors such as Cecil B DeMille and Alfred Hitchcock. Collectors often ask what makes the Carol Day comic strip, an obscure and seldom seen newspaper strip from the United Kingdom, so special to a small but growing band of fanatics. The strip hasn't been significantly reprinted and it never achieved wide circulation in newspapers. We have gathered 136 outstanding Carol Day examples from across David Wright's run to display. Working in a style dear to him and heavy with uncompromising improvisation, this sketchbook weaves between casual and intense graphic styles and was drawn by Moebius between 1997 and 2009. The protagonist of this pseudo-historical story, Major Grubert, evolves both philosophically and humouristically in a context echoing the brilliant 'Inside Moebius' series. Taking another journey through the fabulous web like world of the Airtight Garage, several guest appearances are slipped between the pages of this book, including the likes of Lorenzo Mattotti, François Avril, André Juillard, William Vance, Sylvio Cadelo, as well as Isabelle Giraud and their children, Raphaël and Nausicaä.
