This classic Moebius book now has extra content including 20 color pages never previously released. 'Everyone knows by now that Mars is sterile. Yet still we send at great cost robots equipped with small shovels that stubbornly dig remote arid soil in the hope of finding huddled fossils of ancient bacteria. I found it easier and less costly in terms of technology investment to get hold of a blank book and leave the pen running over the paper at random as if in a dream. Of course, this method of another age is far from providing the necessary scientific guarantees and I have not even tried to get a thesis in 'Science and Life.' Yet this book does exist and the strange creatures that inhabit its pages also exist with it and within it.' - Moebius (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Billy Bunter had a long career at Fleetway. He began in hugely popular text stories and then went on to further fame as a purely slapstick character in the pages of Knockout and Valiant, where his depiction was almost totally unrelated to his original conception. The strips that appeared in Comet take us firmly back to the roots that established the popularity of the characters: exciting dramatic adventures featuring not only Billy Bunter but also the cast of other Greyfriars characters. This volume comprises the very best of the Comet Billy Bunter dramatic strips, including all those drawn by Reg Bunn ('The Famous Five') and C.H. Chapman ('Greyfriars School' and 'Bunter of Greyfriars') that most admirers would consider the pick of the crop, or as Billy Bunter might say, the icing on the cake… (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

One of the all-time greats is featured in this very special issue. John Watkiss may not be a name familiar to many readers, but within the world of film, comics and gallery art he is rightly regarded as being one of the most exceptional talents of recent times. The son of a miner, he taught himself how to draw the human form from memory aided by a battered copy of a book by George Bridgman. By the time he arrived at art college he was a better draughtsman than any of the tutors working there. He taught life drawing, sold paintings to the rich and famous and created over 300 massive paintings that inspired the Disney Tarzan movie. An incredible roller-coaster ride of massive highs and lows-accompanied by some of the most mesmerizing art you have seen-this is an issue you will not want to miss! In August 1914 much of Europe was pitched into a war which would eclipse all others in terms of its industrialised ferocity. In an era where photography and film recording were still in their infancy, much of the news was relayed through the work of reportage artists. Pre-eminent amongst such artists was Fortunino Matania who was The Sphere's artist-on-the-spot for events ranging from coronations to colliery disasters. Sent to a variety of fronts to cover the conflict, his illustrations created a gripping and, at times, life-affirming testimony to those traumatic times. For the first time ever, this book collects those images in large format so that they can be viewed as they were intended. OVER 150 paintings and drawings on the World War 1 conflict, depicting all its horrors and special moments. His work inspired many contemporary artists: Annigoni and Russell Flint both visited his studio, and many comic strip artists collected his work including Al Williamson, Roy Krenkel, Frank Frazetta, John Bolton, Bernie Wrightson as well as film directors such as Cecil B DeMille and Alfred Hitchcock.
