Bob Fingerman is an indie cartoonist who Harvey Kurtzman discovered amongst his students and realised here was someone who actually knew how to draw! Fingerman has worked for just-about every major and minor comics and magazine publication in the US, and while artists like Dan Clowes and Peter Bagge achieved greater visibility, Fingerman's work is of equal merit. Hans Kresse was one of the greatest comic strip artists you have never heard of, coming all the way from The Netherlands. It's a shame that nobody remembers him anymore. Although he was published all over the world-it was during the 1950s and 1960s-and that might be why nobody remembers him anymore, as comics once read back then were trashed afterwards and nobody gave a hoot as to who the artists were (although Kresse worked until the 1990s). Frank Bellamy is an artist whose work reflects much of the century that he inhabited. Born a year before the end of the First World War, his art documented an age of conflict, exploration, technological advancement, social change and an age which could envisage worlds as yet undiscovered as well as worlds long departed deep beneath the sands of time. Jo is a typical adventure strip for the time and very similar in its premise to Judy – a young, beautiful girl is thrust into danger with her partner, and their adventures take them to exotic locales in a series of loosely plotted melodramas. Jo is somewhat distinguished from Judy in the quality of the art. While the early episodes of Judy are a warmup for Wright, in Jo he has fully gotten his footing and the art shines from the first day.Our source material is tearsheets, and they are not the ideal source for reprinting strips. However, original art and proofs are unavailable (as far as we know they are not extant). We have adjusted contrast, lightness and black levels to provide as consistent and enjoyable experience as possible. If you are familiar with our book  David Wright's Judy you will notice that the reproduction is whiter and brighter than in Judy, mainly due to the difference in source material. Like Judy, we believe Jo is a minor gem by one of the greatest strip artists to practice the art and well worth fans' attention in spite of the limitations of our source.
