This classic Moebius book now has extra content including 20 color pages never previously released. 'Everyone knows by now that Mars is sterile. Yet still we send at great cost robots equipped with small shovels that stubbornly dig remote arid soil in the hope of finding huddled fossils of ancient bacteria. I found it easier and less costly in terms of technology investment to get hold of a blank book and leave the pen running over the paper at random as if in a dream. Of course, this method of another age is far from providing the necessary scientific guarantees and I have not even tried to get a thesis in 'Science and Life.' Yet this book does exist and the strange creatures that inhabit its pages also exist with it and within it.' - Moebius (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Originally published in Thriller Picture Library issues 66, 105, 108 and 145, these four tales are rendered by four very different artists. In The Rogue's Moon Philip Mendoza splendidly captures the brutality and mendaciousness of cut-throat pirates. Reg Bunn's Captain Kidd of the Spanish Main has the feel of good, old-fashioned swashbuckling adventure, so prevalent in the movies of the 1950s. In The Sea Hawk, Robert Forrest brings the world of the Barbary pirates to fierce, vigorous life with his atmospheric and authentically-realised drawings. Vigorously drawn with a great sense of movement, The Fortunes of Captain Blood was John Millar Watt's very first adventure strip. Not content drawing all 64 pages of the comic, he also painted the cover! (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

One of the most fondly remembered British strips was the fully painted The Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire. With its pseudo retro setting in a world resembling Ancient Rome but with the advances of science in its weapons and flying vehicles, it set the standard in boys' comics from the 1960s. But it was mainly the absolutely stunning artwork of its initial artist, Don Lawrence, that made it a fan-favorite. We take a closer look at the artwork and feature panels in detail from the various artists who contributed to the series. The majority of the artwork was scanned from the originals and reproduced at their actual size to see the artwork in all its glorious detail. (immagine) Categoria: Magazines

Born in Argentina in 1933, Jorge Moliterni's earliest work was in advertising. He soon moved to working in comics, where he was kept busy working for a wide spectrum of clients including the UK's Fleetway publications, including their pocket war libraries in the 1960s. Despite the influence of Milt Caniff that he shared with many of his contemporaries, his work was unparalleled when it came to handling dark themes. His moody use of light and portrayal of characters driven to the edge of madness made him a perfect choice for stories about fear, greed and vengeance. We have chosen four of his greatest stories, carefully restored the art and reset the fonts to bring you the sharpest reproduction imaginable of these great comics along with a War Comic Checklist and Cover gallery. Frank Bellamy is an artist whose work reflects much of the century that he inhabited. Born a year before the end of the First World War, his art documented an age of conflict, exploration, technological advancement, social change and an age which could envisage worlds as yet undiscovered as well as worlds long departed deep beneath the sands of time. His story follows the course of many of his contemporaries, a driven determination to secure a living as a illustrator, bolstered by sporadic exposure to art tuition, stints in a provincial studio 'learning on the job', and the 'pilgrimage to London' and more specifically Fleet Street, which in the 1950s was a veritable Mecca for aspiring illustrators. What makes Bellamy's story so particular is his development into a pre-eminent graphic artist creating strips such as Robin Hood, King Arthur, Heros the Spartan, Fraser of Africa, Montgomery, The Happy Warrior, Thunderbirds and Garth. From a relatively staid and unremarkable (yet highly competent) artist to a ground-breaking master of the comic strip, his rise to fame presents not just a fascinating tale about his life and work but also the story of UK comics from what was a golden age through to the influencing of the next generation of comic artists-and creatives in other fields-who would succeed him. Typical of those who fell under Bellamy's spell is Oliver Frey who graces this edition with his introduction to the work of Frank Bellamy. (immagine) Categoria: Magazines

by Frank Bellamy Frank Bellamy is regarded as probably the greatest British comic strip artist, well-known at the night of his career for his ground breaking art on Fraser of Africa, Heros the Spartan, and Thunderbirds. In the mid-1950's he was the perfect choice to bring Robin Hood's adventures to life. This book brings together every episode of this legendary and elusive series from 1956/7 for the first time, uncut as it first appeared. Bellamy's stunning visuals and attention to detail in bringing to life the adventures of Robin Hood has never been equalled. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

The first ever edition of a new genre of comics. The authors have taken public domain comics from the 1940's, 50's and 60's, rewritten the captions and dialogue to create completely new stories with a comedic twist. The result is a hilarious and unique collection of re-purposed comic tales illustrated by the great names of the Golden and Silver Age. Root for superhero Scott Gigawatt who defeats the forces of evil by singing uncool Country and Western songs which cause his adversaries to explode. Thrill to the adventures of Captain Covid, the world's first socially distanced detective as he tries saving the world from a more lethal strain of COVID-19 by punching a lot of people in the face. Worry for Laverne, the good blonde gone bad as she ditches her sleazy-rider boyfriend Brandon and kickstarts a new relationship with a handsome shaman in a polo-neck sweater. And shiver in fear as Frank and Gina find themselves dragged back to the 18th century and discover, to their horror, that there is no 5G phone coverage. Comics Rebubbled takes stories of raw human emotion and peril-and treats them with disdain and disrespect. It's new, it's different, it's irreverent-and it's funny.
