The first graphic novel from a founding father of the Quebec comix underground. A poignant account of an alcoholic father who drags his family into misfortune, The Vagabond Valise is the heart-breaking autobiographical story of Siris, represented by his chicken-headed alter ego. Siris paints a sincere and poetic portrait of a troubled childhood spent in and out of foster homes, and the working-class, post-war Quebec where it took place. Winner of the Quebec Graphic Novel of the Year. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

The comics community in Quebec has long been heralded as unique, blending the clear line aesthetic of Europe with the underground influences of North America. Think Tintin meets R. Crumb. This volume is a companion to the BDANG imprint, to give critical context to the history and breadth of the work. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror Annullato/esaurito (Lateness)

When Danish journalist Michael Nybrandt was cycling across Tibet he discovered the Tibetan people's unique passion for soccer and the heartbreaking treatment they received at the hands of the Chinese government. He dreamed of a Tibetan national soccer team to create awareness about the Tibetan cause. It took years of preparation, overcoming bureaucratic problems and political turmoil, before Tibet could play their first international match against Greenland. Dave's on the verge of summer vacation and change is on the horizon. Developers have begun digging up a field on the edges of Dave's small town, presenting endless nooks and crannies for Dave and his fearless friend Edward to explore. Over the course of the summer, while the town's adults remain focused on their fractured marriages and neighborly resentments, the children are allowed to run wild in the field, collecting caterpillars and tadpoles, catching field mice (which they smuggle home), and nursing a curious fascination with Dave's mother's matches and their potential for disaster. As the summer meanders on, Edward brings a new friend into the circle. But John's got a mean streak that's strong enough to flip Dave's world-and his place in it-upside down. Dave Lapp examines a time when kids stayed out until the streetlights came onexposes the dangers, foibles, and wildness of childhood in the 1970s. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Inspired by the gamebook fad of the 80s, the gothically visionary 4th entry in the acclaimed Pick-A-Plot series of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style books. Off the success of the You Are a Cat! Trilogy, author and illustrator Sherwin Tjia puts a new twist on the Alice in Wonderland tale, removing the titular character altogether, and tasking you as her mother - a respectable Englishwoman who must navigate London's dangerous underworld - with finding her. A morally ambiguous fable for the #MeToo movement. Drawn with guileful clarity and bite, The Unknown is a story of deceit, self-deception and the search for happiness. One day, Helen finds a newborn abandoned in a changing room in her boutique. She decides to keep it, nested in a cardboard box and hidden even from her husband. Vicky and Wanda are boarding school roommates. Wanda talks Vicky into turning tricks. Meanwhile, Vicky can't keep her secrets from Wanda - not her affair with their history teacher, and not the pregnancy she tries to sabotage and yet stubbornly carries out. As the two narratives converge, coincidences and secrets are revealed. Incisive, wicked and breezily unconcerned by taboos, Anna Sommer lets readers put together the pieces of her morally ambiguous fable. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Daria Bogdanska moves to Malmö to attend art school, sets out to find a job, and discovers that in order to work in the country legally, she needs a Swedish personal identity number. But there is a catch: she can't get one without securing a job first. To make ends meet, Daria starts working under the table at an Indian restaurant. There, she discovers another level of inequity: lacking regulation, the underground job market is forcing immigrants to settle for a substandard quality of life. She sparks a legal battle that ultimately leads to fairer work practices for the people in her community. Wage Slaves is the autobiographical story of Daria Bogdanska's determined struggle to build a life in Malmö, and how she found a way to succeed, against all odds. When COVID-19 hit Montreal, cartoonist Rick Trembles started The Weakly Dispatch, a series of diary comics offering his personal perspective on pandemic life. Trembles' asthma put him at risk of a serious infection so, like many others, he took careful measures to avoid coming into contact with the virus. He self-isolated for months, surviving on grocery deliveries from friends, DIY workouts (to prevent muscle atrophy), and of course, comics. Leaving the apartment, however, turned out to be even harder than staying isolated. Initially foiled by stair-painters and coughing neighbors, Trembles quickly discovered a newly perilous world, populated by unmasked people and handshake enthusiasts. As Langosh and Yeva embark on an epic cross-country journey, they discover that old wounds-and differing personal experiences-have begun to threaten their close-knit friendship. As they explore big cities, small towns, prairies and mountains, Langosh opens up to Yeva about his experience of police brutality, and the stark difference between how they respond to the situation leads to deep reflection on how the past informs their current choices. The more they seek to influence each other, the more obscured their path becomes. As Yeva comes to understand the unjust act of violence that changed his life forever, she struggles with how Langosh decides to respond to what happened. Have the values that he formed in response to harm become barriers to his personal growth? Is Yeva callous to the realities that he faces? Veronica Post examines how we respond to structual harm, the power and limitations of personal agency, and the divide between individual freedoms and collective responsibility. It all begins with a relationship update on social media. Summer vacation is about to begin, and Simon discovers the change just as his supposed girlfriend leaves to spend two months in a seaside village. Determined to find out what went wrong, Simon decides to hitchhike 350 miles to find her. With just his backpack and a few snacks, he sneaks out of the house and hits the road but he quickly discovers that he isn't quite prepared for the journey. But that's only half the story. Unaware of the miscommunication, Louise is dealing with social challenges of her own. This is a story about two people in love and the chaos that happens when technology gets in the way. At long last comes the first book in English from the legendary Montreal cartoonist, screenprinter, editor, and publisher! Loiterers collects three of Bossé's novellas into one volume. Demon Sweat is a dark fable of a boy navigating a Montreal-like dreamscape, fighting off his demons. The Wild Ones is Bossé's collection of energetic, complex, and visually stunning wordless strips, informed by both Fritz the Cat and Eraserhead. The title story follows two anthropomorphized teens through playgrounds and suburban backyards looking for that perfect discarded cigarette butt. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
