Formed in 1973, the Detroit band Destroy All Monsters was a wild and reckless synthesis of psychedelia, proto-punk, heavy metal, noise and performance art. Destroy All Monsters released very little recorded music until Thurston Moore issued a three-CD compilation in 1994, but they published six issues of a now legendary and much sought-after zine, also titled Destroy All Monsters. This publication collects those six zines, released between 1976 and 1979, and also includes parts of a lost seventh issue that never saw publication. The Destroy All Monsters zines comprise a vibrant array of collage, writing, photography and other miscellanea by the band. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

(W/A) Tim Burton, (W) Jenny He, Ron Magliozzi Tim Burton has reinvented Hollywood genre filmmaking over the past three decades with a visual style inspired by the aesthetics of animation and silent comedy. Published to accompany a major career retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art, this volume chronicles the evolution of his creative practices, following his visual imagination from his earliest childhood drawings through his mature oeuvre. Illustrated with works on paper, moving-image stills, drawn and painted concept art, puppets and maquettes, storyboards, and other work, this volume sheds new light on Burton and presents previously unseen works from the artist's personal archive. (A) Mark Ryden Absorbing Roman poet Ovid's tales of transformation in Metamorphoses and adding his own dash of art-historical figuration and contemporary pop culture, Mark Ryden broaches new terrain with The Tree Show. Arcadian Gothic hints at the nature of this new work, and fans of Ryden will find familiar preoccupations in these new paintings, drawings, and sculptures transposed to new pastures. Ryden combines the arcane with pop-cultural images to make his carefully executed leaps into fantasy. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

Arcadian Gothic hints at the nature of this new work, and fans of Ryden will find familiar preoccupations in these new paintings, drawings, and sculptures transposed to new pastures. Never reluctant to freight his work with layers of reference that range from Renaissance landscape and Neoclassical portrait painting to occultism and literature, Ryden combines the arcane with pop-cultural images to make his carefully executed leaps into fantasy. Gathering all three volumes of R. Crumb's acclaimed Art & Beauty Magazine, this publication guides the reader through the 20-year history of Crumb's magazine, from the earliest images in the 1990s to the most recent drawings completed in 2016. Drawings of women in positions ranging from lascivious to modest are accompanied by quotations, many of which are from artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Harvey Kurtzman. The images appeal to a purely erotic sensibility, which is undercut by the inclusion of often philosophical prose. This beautiful edition, with a cover specifically designed by Crumb, is a wonderful window into Crumb's world of bodies and ideas, art and beauty, for seasoned supporters and novices alike. Available as a Regular Edition hardcover and a Limited Edition Hardcover of 400 copies signed and numbered by Crumb on a specially designed bookplate. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror
