Forced into hiding by a global ecological cataclysm, humans emerge from their underground warrens half a millennium later to discover that the Earth has been totally transformed. All of the familiar flora and fauna are gone, replaced by a radically altered natural order populated by rampaging dinosaurs and strange, new creatures. Xenozoic combines lush and richly realized ink-and-brush artwork with a pulp-fueled narrative to create an action-packed fantasy-an unrelenting adventure that also serves as a subtle cautionary fable concerning the unforeseen consequences that shortsighted present-day decisions might have upon future generations. After a successful caper chasing a gang of disembodied teen ghouls from an abandoned junior high school, paranormal investigator and legendary artist Mark Chiarello found himself stranded in a ghost town just on the outskirtsen of nowhere along with his wordsmith and fellow ghost-chaser, Kevin Somers. There they were met by an unsettling stranger with an even more unsettling wager: to stay the night in California's most notorious haunted hotel! Without hesitation, the two agreed and took up residence for the night in the creepiest old manor anyone had ever set eyes on. In a stroke of genius (or perhaps madness), the two swiftly went to work making the ultimate tool to fight fear: Alien to Zombie: An ABC Book of Monsters and Spooks! By sunrise, our heroes' fears and nightmares were replaced with laughter and cheers, all thanks to the playful yet powerful hardcover book the two crafted. Carbon 2 follows its predecessor by three years, and in those years Mark Schultz continues to refine his attempts to put to paper the visions he sees in his head. Of course there are plenty of lovely warrior women, including more in the Pulpette series, as well as portraits of his Xenozoic characters, Hannah Dundee and Jack Tenrec, negotiating dire straits. There is also sword and sorcery, ancient mythic tableaus, and otherworldly science fiction to satisfy the most diverse tastes. And there are preliminaries and rejected pieces from Storms at Sea, and, (spoiler alert) design work and character studies from Mark's new in-progress Xenozoic graphic novel. Qua hoon! Frank Cho has been making ballpoint pen drawings purely for himself for over two decades. This is the first time that these rarely seen works have been captured in a dedicated volume. Compiled here are his favorites, many which were done specially for this book. Most pieces are shown in four stages and accompanied by Cho's commentary to reveal his process. Included within the book are visual guides for drawing anatomy and body parts, plus a short interview where Cho discusses his working methods and answers the most common questions that he receives online. Frank Cho's exquisite line and masterful brushstrokes are explored to give the beginning artist, along with the most advanced professional, all the tools and knowledge to draw beautiful women. No area is overlooked as chapters cover demonstrations on how to draw the overall figure, then continue with the head, hair, neck, torso, back, arms, hands, pelvis and legs through clear, step-by-step procedures. Numerous samples from multiple angles are shared, including views from the back, side and three-quarter figure. Frank continues by exploring the foundation of form by showing major muscle groups and providing visual answers to an artist's toughest questions. A dedicated feature with dozens of faces and expressions provides an unparalleled reference gallery. Drawing Beautiful Women is enhanced by Frank's wit and flair for entertainment, as he interjects humor throughout the book for a fun and playful experience. Frank's pen-and-ink and brush styles, plus the ballpoint pen, are each represented. A chapter devoted to painting shows two complete works from start to finish. The process of the cover painting is revealed in detail, followed by a second radiant woman in oils. Examples of his work being digitally colored and two gatefolds are also included. This book will includes artistic drawings. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

A compelling showcase spanning seven transformative years. During an impressive period-2005 through 2012-Mark Schultz turned his attention to producing a body ofpersonal works and private commissions. The results, collected in the five Various Drawings volumes, focused on subjects about which Schultz feels most passionate. Among them are characters and tableaux pulled from mythology,science-fantasy and pulp adventure, featuring steely warriors and femme fatales-his popular pulpette women included. Schultz's Xenozoic world is profusely explored through a series of dynamic compositions with his protagonists, Jack and Hannah, placed in a variety of impossibly dangerous situations. In addition to his self-generated pieces, there are many examples of Schultz's commercial works done for comics, film and books, as well as renderings of newly discovered dinosaurs and more. Portfolio compiles the drawings found in the original five Various Drawings volumes as well as the cover illustrations and special bookplates. Plus, an additional 160 pages worth of material adds dozens of works not previously collected. Found within are nearly 450 fully rendered drawings executed in brush-and-ink, carbon or graphite pencil. In addition, Schultz shows his process with a wealth of preliminary sketches done for a range of projects, including his Storms at Sea illustrated novella. Add to this rare sketchbook material and Schultz's increasing exploration of color-tinted imagery, and you have one fascinating and diverse portfolio! (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

Franklin Booth: Silent Symphony is a massive, 304-page book featuring over 400 pieces that span the artist's entire career. Accompanying photos of Franklin Booth (1874-1948), his family, friends and colleagues-along with illustrations by his peers and inspirations-add nearly fifty more images. A new essay by the award-winning illustrator and professor Alice A. Carter delves into Booth's life. This biography highlights his childhood in Indiana, family life and the earliest days of his professional career, his road trips, studio life and teaching career with intimate stories and much more. Quotes of first-hand encounters with Booth by his students, friends and fellow artists also are shared. Pen-and-ink drawings cover a fifty-year span-from Booth's earliest days to his final works. These include his story illustrations for top magazines of the time, plus a diverse and rare assortment of pieces made for poems, advertisements and prints. Book illustrations completed in color as well as pen-and-ink also are featured, along with rare sketches for an unrealized project. All art was scanned and photographed from its original source material using the latest technology and has been painstakingly prepped for this publication. Franklin Booth's meticulous and unique pen technique has been revered by artists and students for the last hundred years. No one has ever been able to duplicate his style. Booth utilized his own life, philosophies and experiences as vehicles to project his thoughts to the viewer, which makes his work deeply compelling and infused with his respect for nature and art. He always listened to his own voice and developed a style that was not a natural product of his era. This allowed his work to become timeless and to continue capturing audiences today. Franklin Booth's influence can still be seen in modern comic books, fantasy illustrations, concept art and films. The magnitude of his art is made for the big screen, with his figures in epic scenes. His work has made its way through decades of shifting genres and changes in the art world and is still as immediate today as it was in the early twentieth century. -Over 365 black-and-white illustrations by Booth -Over 25 color illustrations by Booth -Over 400 total pieces by Booth -Over 20 photographs that show Booth, his family, friends or colleagues -Over 25 paintings or drawings by his peers, inspirations or other artists working during his time period -New 25,000-word biographical essay by Alice A.
