Gil Kane, whose career spanned almost the entire history of American comic books, was one of the most influential artists to work in the medium. This book takes an inside look at the history and development of American comic books through interviews with Kane and some of his most important collaborators. These interviews, conducted by Daniel Herman, author of Gil Kane: The Art of the Comics, explore a wide range of topics which focus on the development of comic book storytelling in the last half of the twentieth century. Accompanying these revealing interviews are numerous examples of Kane's rarely seen original artwork. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

The First In-Depth Biography of Comic Legend Steve Ditko Endorsed by the Ditko Family The first in depth biography of comics-legend Steve Ditko, in his own works - taken from years of correspondence with author David Currie and endorsed by the Ditko family with a Foreword by Mark S. Ditko. In his Foreward Mark S. Ditko writes: I'm very happy to say that this is a really great book. David, and his correspondence with my uncle and others, uncovered and documented things that would otherwise have been left unknown or subject to complete speculation …if ever even considered. Note that my role in the review of this book was mainly about my uncle's personal life as we know it and not necessarily his professional career. But David clearly has a good grasp on that aspect of him. Steve Ditko was the last of a generation of American comic book artists who created powerful modern-day mythology and became among the most influential and original creators of the 20th century. He co-created Spider-Man along with Stan Lee, but walked away from the character in the 1960s just as it was gaining popularity - never to return, never to give interviews, never to attend conventions or court fame and attention. He died alone at 90, known to the comic book industry as a 'cranky recluse'. Through his history, helped by sourcing a long correspondence between Ditko and author David Currie, the stories of other artists from the same period are examined, from Jack Kirby to Wallace Wood, and how they all fell afoul of a system stacked against them. When cartoonist Elzie Segar created Popeye, as a minor character ten years into the run of the Thimble Theatre strip in 1929, little did he know that the world's most famous sailor would still be around over ninety years later and still being offered as a Sunday feature. To celebrate Popeye, the character, the comic strip and his universe, a feature cartoonist Charles M. Schulz described as 'perfect... consistent in drawing and humor,' Hermes Press is publishing the definitive art monograph on the subject. This 300 plus page book features a comprehensive essay written by pop culture historian R.C. Harvey accompanied by over 350 illustrations of original strip and comic book art, animation art, illustrations, advertising art, products, the Robert Altman film, and everything Popeye. Every aspect of Popeye is explored, from Olive Oyl and Eugene the Jeep to Wimpy and Bluto. So, if you've ever read the strip, watched the cartoons, seen the movie, or ever eaten spinach and wondered if you'll have super-powers, this new comprehensive history is a must. The fourteenth book in this reprint series is titled 'Barnabas Collins and Quentin's Demon.' Each book in the series was written by William Edward Daniel Ross who used the pen name Marilyn Ross. When Quentin Collins invited Lara Balfour to Collinwood, they knew each other only from the correspondence that had grown out of Quentin's admiration for the haunting waltz her father had composed. Soon Quentin professes to love Lara -- but is his love really a threat? His first wife's throat was torn out by a wolflike creature who escaped capture. Since then, other young women have died in the same grisly fashion...in the full of the moon, when Quentin's mysterious 'attacks' occur. Lara faces the terrifying possibility that her brooding, sensitive host is a werewolf. She won't leave Collinwood, for that would mean leaving Barnabas, whom she has come to love. But will Barnabas be able to save her, if she stays? (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror
