(W/A) Winshluss Winner of the Grand Prise at France's Angouleme Comics Festival in 2009. In this dark rendition, a greedy Geppetto builds Pinocchio as a metallic weapon of war, while Jiminy Cockroach is a homeless squatter living the good life in Pinocchio's skull. Exquisite drawings by celebrated cartoonist Winshluss bring to life a rich tale of greedy fools, lust, sadness, redemption, and hope. Winshluss has perfected the wordless comic with artwork primarily done in pen and ink, and watercolor which switches to paint for larger splash panels. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Life in Hiroshima during the war was difficult for six-year-old Keiji and the Nakazawa family, but they made the best of it. On his way to school one bright August morning, Keiji was unaware his hometown would soon be turned into a world of horrors. That morning, he watched as a single airplane soared through the clear blue sky, carrying with it the most powerful weapon that had ever been created, the atomic bomb, code named 'Little Boy.' It was about to fall on Keiji's city, changing his life forever. This is the true story of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and its effects, seen through the eyes of cartoonist Keiji Nakazawa. Cartoonist Keiji Nakazawa was seven years old and living in Hiroshima in the early days of August 1945 when the city was destroyed by an atomic bomb dropped by the U.S.A. Starting a few months before that event, the ten-volume saga shows life in Japan after years of war and privations, as seen through the eyes of seven-year-old Gen Nakaoka. By Volume Seven, Gen has grown old enough to think about the legacy of the victims of the atomic bombing. Picking up from Volume Six, the story opens with Gen searching for a printer willing to publish an eyewitness account of the bombing written by 'Papa,' the journalist who serves as a father figure to Gen's war orphan friends. By hook and crook Gen and Ryuta manage to get the book printed and distributed, only to arouse the wrath of U.S. Army censors, who teach them a hard lesson about the politics of memory. Meanwhile, Gen's brother Koji returns home at last, only to find that their mother is on her deathbed. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

In 1920s Japan, failed novelist Hitomi bears an uncanny resemblance to the son of a rich industrialist. Hitomi learns of the rich man's sudden death and creates a desperate plan, successfully impersonating the now-dead son. Hitomi takes over all aspects of the industrialist's life, including his company, his fortune, and eventually his wife. There he redirects the family's wealth to his own perverse aims. On a remote and mysterious island, he builds for himself a playground of hedonistic excess - replete with decadent feasts, orgies, and dark secrets. Stunning artwork by master manga artist Suehiro Maruo deftly illustrates this Japanese pulp classic in lush detail. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
