In the early Christmas traditions of Europe, the 'Krampus' was St. Nicholas' dark servant - a hairy, horned, supernatural beast whose pointed ears and long slithering tongue gave misbehavers the creeps! This new and improved edition includes an introduction, a historical survey of the character, and over 180 lavish pre-World War 1 Krampus postcard images. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

On a remote and mysterious island, one man builds a playground of hedonistic excess. His world is filled with splendor - replete with waterfalls, grand palaces, and gardens - a grand back-drop for decadent feasts, orgies, and dark secrets. Hitomi learns of the rich man's sudden passing and creates a desperate plan. He fakes his own death, digs up and hides the other man's body, and then washes himself up starving on a beach near the home of the dead man's family. After successfully impersonating the now-dead son, Hitomi takes over all aspects of the man's life, including his company, his fortune, and eventually his wife. The failed author soon redirects the family's wealth to his own perverse aims. Set in 1920s Japan, The Strange Tale of Panorama Island follows the twisted path of failed novelist Hitomi, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the son and heir apparent of a rich industrialist family. by Keiji Nakazawa Cartoonist Keiji Nakazawa was seven years old and living in Hiroshima in the early days of August 1945 when the city was destroyed by an atomic bomb dropped by the U.S.A. Starting a few months before that event, the ten-volume saga shows life in Japan after years of war and privations, as seen through the eyes of seven-year-old Gen Nakaoka. Volume 3 picks up the story with Gen, his mother and his baby brother searching for a place to rest in the bomb's aftermath. Facing rejection, hunger, and humiliation, they come to realize that they still have -- and can share -- three crucial possessions: their self-respect, their hope, and their inner strength. This is an all-new translation, with new lettering. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Slow death zero is a wild and outrageous collection of environmental-themed horror stories, a fat compilation by the most diverse team of Slow Death contributors ever assembled! Representing the 'Old School' Slow Death crew, we have cover artist William Stout, Tim Boxell, Bryan Talbot, Errol McCarthy, and even (gasp!) ol' man Gore himself, Richard freakin' Corben, this time teamed with frequent Creepy/Eerie collaborator, Bruce Jones, himself a horror comics anthologist of terror-ific taste! As a bonus, there's a rarely-seen Greg Irons page that somehow missed being included in Slow Death #11. There's also a whole bunch o' talents herein who came to prominence a tad later, including Rick Veitch (who actually got his start, back in 1973, in the Last Gasp comic book Two-Fisted Zombies) and Hunt Emerson (whose debut in underground British comix dates to the mid-'70s), plus Weirdo mag alumni Peter Bagge, Drew Friedman, Carel Moisewitch, Savage Pencil, Rick Altergott, and (almost-Weirdo) Danny Hellman, plus work by cartoonist vets Peter Kuper, Bob Fingerman, Mike Diana, and Kellie Strom. Relative newbies include Max Clotfelter, Cody Goodfellow, Mike Dubisch, Cameron Forsley, Kevin Jackson, Megan Jeffery, John Lucas, Charles Schneider, Garret Shanley, Skinner, Shane Oakley, Toufic El Rassi, M. Yafa, and especially Pat Moriarity, who, as usual, went the extra mile. (Sorry for any mis-characterizations here.) Hat's off to good ol' Gaspar, the Friendly Host, Slow Death's mascot/chattering skull who, for some of the stories within, turned over horror-host narrating duties ish to Cap'n Ronzo himself, our fearless leader who founded this darn comic book five decades ago!
