Barefoot Gen is the powerful, tragic, autobiographical story of the bombing of Hiroshima and its aftermath, seen through the eyes of the artist as a young boy growing up in Japan.Shielded by a stone wall, he miraculously survived the blast. In this illustrated memoir, Nakazawa recounts his wartime childhood, his experience surviving the atomic bomb, and how the effects reverberated throughout his life. Nakazawa's honest portrayal of emotions and experiences speaks to children and adults everywhere. Barefoot Gen serves as a reminder of the suffering war brings to innocent people, and as a unique documentation of an especially horrible source of suffering, the atomic bomb. This new edition features all new lettering throughout as well as four pages in color for the first time. This edition collects the first two volumes of the series: Barefoot Gen: A Cartoon Story of Hiroshima and Barefoot Gen: The Day After. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of La Luz de Jesus gallery, mastermind Billy Shire has organized a monumental group show featuring around 300 artists, each of whom have contributed one new piece and a written anecdote about their experience with the gallery. In 25 years of groundbreaking exhibitions, this is La Luz's first published survey, featuring three generations of the most important artists working today. by Chris Wroblewski The world's first publication on the art of Chinese skin illustration, a unique and stimulating book on the elusive and secretive Chinese world of permanent body illustration! With over 250 original images, showing the proud wearers of body art, this book takes the reader on a journey through China. From the mountains of Yunan, where the ethnic tribes people still maintain their tradition of marking the face with the butterfly designs they believe will transport them to heaven in the afterlife, across the plains of China to Hong Kong and the equally colorful world of ancient mariner tattoos. China Tattoo is provocative, substantially researched, and filled with stunning images. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

Slow death zero is a wild and outrageous collection of environmental-themed horror stories, a fat compilation by the most diverse team of Slow Death contributors ever assembled! Representing the 'Old School' Slow Death crew, we have cover artist William Stout, Tim Boxell, Bryan Talbot, Errol McCarthy, and even (gasp!) ol' man Gore himself, Richard freakin' Corben, this time teamed with frequent Creepy/Eerie collaborator, Bruce Jones, himself a horror comics anthologist of terror-ific taste! As a bonus, there's a rarely-seen Greg Irons page that somehow missed being included in Slow Death #11. There's also a whole bunch o' talents herein who came to prominence a tad later, including Rick Veitch (who actually got his start, back in 1973, in the Last Gasp comic book Two-Fisted Zombies) and Hunt Emerson (whose debut in underground British comix dates to the mid-'70s), plus Weirdo mag alumni Peter Bagge, Drew Friedman, Carel Moisewitch, Savage Pencil, Rick Altergott, and (almost-Weirdo) Danny Hellman, plus work by cartoonist vets Peter Kuper, Bob Fingerman, Mike Diana, and Kellie Strom. Relative newbies include Max Clotfelter, Cody Goodfellow, Mike Dubisch, Cameron Forsley, Kevin Jackson, Megan Jeffery, John Lucas, Charles Schneider, Garret Shanley, Skinner, Shane Oakley, Toufic El Rassi, M. Yafa, and especially Pat Moriarity, who, as usual, went the extra mile. (Sorry for any mis-characterizations here.) Hat's off to good ol' Gaspar, the Friendly Host, Slow Death's mascot/chattering skull who, for some of the stories within, turned over horror-host narrating duties ish to Cap'n Ronzo himself, our fearless leader who founded this darn comic book five decades ago! by Chris Mars Perhaps best known as the dummer for The Replacements, Chris Ware turned his attention in the 1990's toward graphic arts, and he has produced a remarkable body of work in his new career. Chris Mars' painting style, examples of which graced all of his album covers, is marked by nightmarish landscapes and grotesque, distorted figures. He draws inspiration from his older brother's struggle with schizophrenia. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

(W/A) Various One of the leading ladies of pop surrealism, Marion Peck populates her dreamlike paintings with strange, cute creatures. Themes of hope, despair, mystery, nostalgia, love and death recur throughout Peck's work alongside motifs of dreams, big-eyed animals, natural landscapes, doe-eyed children, royalty and peasantry. Peck looks beyond the subconscious, reminding us that the waking world is never quite as it seems. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
