Synopsis: CHARLTON - GORGO VOL 1 June 1961 - January 1962 Issues #1 - #5 After a seaquake, a huge lizard-like creature walked out of the ocean and almost destroyed a fishing village in Ireland. Fortunately for the village, the same quake that brought the 65 foot monster to land has also grounded a salvage ship, the crew of which proved up to the task of capturing the beast. Instead of killing it, or turning it over to the government, they decided to take it to London and put it on display for profit. Looking to be a huge success, things became more complicated when it was discovered the monster, dubbed Gorgo, was really just a youngster and it's 200 foot tall mother was coming for him. After a pitched battle with the British army, Gorga's mother, Ogra, was able to free her child and they both went lumbering back to the sea. That, however, was not the last the world heard of Gorgo. Apparently having found a taste for the land, the young monster began to make regular visits there. At the same time, governments, scientists, and even would-be world conquerors pursued Gorgo and his mother for their own ends. This led Gorgo to finding himself in a succession of dangerous situations, from battling other giant primitive monsters, to control by mad scientists, to even at one point inadvertently preventing World War III. And to quote the fans - 'Ditkos' artwork just engulfs you into the storyline!' (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Created by Dick Ayers and Gardner Fox, wealthy scientist Roger Wright became the super-hero known as the Avenger for one reason: to avenge the death of his brother, who was tortured and killed by Soviet agents. His assistant, Claire Farrow, made his costume; Roger asked her to make it after he saw Claire buy a Ghost Rider mask for her nephew. The Avenger had no powers, but he had his own inventions to fall back on, most notably his VTOL aircraft known as the Starjet and Dissolver pistol. The Avenger also possessed a utility belt containing items for almost any occasion. He mainly focused on thwarting the schemes of Soviet forces, both in his native Empire City and around the world. Amazing Man was the second superhero after Superman to have a comic book named after him. Historians credit his creation variously to writer-artist Bill Everett and art director Lloyd Jacquet, founder of The Funnies Inc., although some credit may be due to Grace Everett, who helped with research. In 1914, an orphaned child named John Aman was chosen by the Tibetan Council of Seven and trained to be a superman, both in mental and physical perfection. His powers include super strength, invulnerability and the ability to make himself disappear in a cloud of green vapour. When he turned twenty-five, after his final tests, he is sent into the world to combat crime and injustice, returning to America to become the heroic Amazing Man. Basil Wolverton (1909-1978) born in Central Point, Oregon, later moving to Vancouver, Washington. He worked as a vaudeville performer and a cartoonist and reporter for the Portland News. Wolverton was a master in caricaturing the human face and body and his drawings have elicited a wide range of reactions; he even described himself as a 'Producer of Preposterous Pictures of peculiar People who Prowl this Perplexing Planet.' Preferring to work with pen and ink, Wolverton's lack of artistic schooling gave his drawings an otherworldly appearance. There was no other artist at the time who drew like him! Harvey Kurtzman felt 'Wolverton never borrowed, never hacked, and he never shortchanged the public - Wolverton was an original.' In 1991 he was posthumously inducted in the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame and in 2000 in the Will Eisner Hall of Fame. Collects Amazing Mystery Funnies Featuring Space Patrol (December 1939-September 1940), Target Comics Month featuring Spacehawk (June 1940-June 1941), and Weird Tales of the Future (June-September 1952).
