In 1950, America was in a state of panic. Juvenile delinquency was destroying the very fabric of society. Ninety percent of all children were reading comic books. In 1954, psychiatrist Dr. Fredric Wertham wrote a scathing indictment of comics called Seduction of the Innocent. Its central premise: Comic books were the leading contributing factor to juvenile delinquency. Diagram for Delinquents captures the zeitgeist of late 1940s and early 1950s America and investigates how the funny books found themselves on the fire. Diagram goes further than any previous comic book documentary to explore and understand the controversial figure at the center of this American tale: Fredric Wertham. by Timothy Callahan Grant Morrison has redefined comics from his trailblazing creation of Zenith, through his metatextual innovations on Animal Man, to his Dadaist super-heroics in Doom Patrol. Along the way, he also addressed Batman with his multi-layered masterpiece Arkham Asylum and the literary Gothic storyline. This book examines all five works in detail, drawing out their running and evolving themes, while an exclusive interview with Morrison on his early career rounds out the volume. Star Trek, with its progressive stance on civil rights, explored not only strange new worlds in the final frontier of space, but also the human condition, revealing the heights to which humans could soar, while exposing the ugliness of racism, sexism, and war. Once deemed a network failure, Trek survived to become one of the most influential franchises of all time. Licensed Star Trek fiction has played no small part in that success. Trek comics have enjoyed almost continuous publication since 1967, spanning more than a thousand issues and storylines to date. New Life and New Civilizations: Exploring Star Trek Comics examines the long history of Star Trek in the four-color realm, featuring insightful essays from popular Trek comic scribes and novelists, as well as other subject-matter experts. Moore. Gaiman. Morrison. They came from Northampton, West Sussex, and Glasgow, and even though they spoke with different dialects, they gave American comics a new voice, one loud and clear enough to speak to the postmodern world. Like a triple-helix strand of some advanced form of DNA, their careers have remained irrevocably intertwined. Taken individually, their professional histories provide an incomplete picture of the British Invasion, but together they redefined the concept of what it means to be a comic book writer. Collectively, their story becomes the story of mainstream comics in the modern era. It's the story you're about to read. (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

From Arkham Asylum and JLA to his seven-year run on Batman, Morrison has redefined and reworked the Caped Crusader from the ground up.
