Matt Fox (1906-1988) first gained notoriety for his jarring cover paintings on the pulp magazine Weird Tales from 1943 to 1951. His almost primitive artistry encompassed ghouls, demons, and grotesqueries of all types, evoking a disquieting horror vibe that no one since has ever matched. Fox suffered with chronic pain throughout his life, and that anguish permeated his classic 1950s cover illustrations and his lone story for Chilling Tales, putting them at the top of all pre-code horror comic enthusiasts' want lists. Comic art historian Roger Hill tells Fox's life story, through an informative biographical essay, augmented with an insightful introduction by From the Tomb editor Peter Normanton. This full-color hardcover also showcases his Weird Tales covers and interior illustrations, and a special Atlas Comics gallery with examples of his inking over Gil Kane, Larry Lieber, and others. In 1978, DC Comics implemented a bold initiative to combat plummeting sales: Give readers more story pages with a higher cover price, to better compete on newsstands. This 'DC Explosion' brought with it many creative new titles, but just weeks after its launch, they pulled the plug, cancelling numerous titles and leaving stacks of completed comic book stories unpublished. It quickly became known as 'The DC Implosion', and TwoMorrows Publishing marks the 40th Anniversary of one of the most notorious events in comics with an exhaustive oral history from the creators involved (Jenette Kahn, Paul Levitz, Len Wein, Mike Gold, and others), plus detailed analysis of how it changed the landscape of comics forever! For a generation of comic-book readers, Jim Aparo is considered the greatest Batman artist of them all. Aparo—with his strong, dynamic style, well-grounded in realism—together with Batman made a team worthy of the title, The Brave and the Bold. But before that team-up book, he made a name for himself on such series as Aquaman, the controversial “Spectre,” and the mysterious Phantom Stranger, and is considered by many to be the definitive artist for each. Now, the team of Jim Amash and Eric Nolen-Weathington (editors of Matt Baker: The Art of Glamour; Carmine Infantino: Penciler, Publisher, Provocateur; and Sal Buscema: Comics’ Fast and Furious Artist) turn the Bat Signal on the life and work of one of comics’ finest! From his time in the world of advertising art, at Charlton Comics on Nightshade and The Phantom, through the heyday of the ’70s, and beyond the death of Robin, Aparo’s career is finally given the attention it so richly deserves. The book is lavishly illustrated with Aparo’s work, including many rare and previously-unpublished pieces. Includes an introduction by award-winning artist Alan Davis, and a new Aparo cover inked by Mike DeCarlo! (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Welcome to the Camp Age, when spies liked their wars cold and their women warm, good guys beat bad guys with a pun and a punch, and Batman shook a mean cape. Michael Eury takes you through that coolest cultural phenomenon with this lively collection of nostalgic essays, histories, and theme song lyrics of classic 1960s characters like Captain Action, Herbie the Fat Fury, Captain Nice, Atom Ant, Scooter, ACG's Nemesis, Dell's super-Frankenstein and Dracula, the 'split!'
