esempio: @author Stan Lee
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
codice a barre.
(W/A) Martin Lemelman The son of Holocaust survivors, Martin Lemelman grew up in the back of his family's candy store in Brownsville during the 1950s and '60s, as the neighborhood, and much of the city, moved into a period of deep decline. In his agonized search for absolute truth, philosopher Bertrand Russell crosses paths with legendary thinkers while his most ambitious goal, to establish unshakable logical foundations of mathematics, continues to loom before him. Russell persists in the quest that threatens to claim both his career and his personal happiness, finally driving him to the brink of insanity. Logicomix is a story about the conflict between an ideal rationality and the unchanging, flawed fabric of reality. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Thinking about comics raises a bewildering range of questions about representation, narrative, and value. Philosophy of Comics is an introduction to these philosophical questions. In exploring the history and variety of the comics medium, Sam Cowling and Wesley D. Cray chart a path through the emerging field of the philosophy of comics. Drawing from a diverse range of forms and genres and informed by case studies of classic comics such as Watchmen, Tales from the Crypt, and Fun Home, Cowling and Cray explore ethical, aesthetic, and ontological puzzles, including: - What does it take to create-or destroy-a fictional character like Superman? - Can all comics be adapted into films, or are some comics impossible to adapt? - Is there really a genre of 'superhero comics'? - When are comics obscene, pornographic, and why does it matter? At a time of rapidly growing interest in graphic storytelling, this is an ideal introduction to the philosophy of comics and some of its most central and puzzling questions. From the unparalleled imagination of Alan Moore, author of Watchmen and V for Vendetta, eight stories full of wonder and strangeness, which take us to the fantastical underside of reality. In his first-ever short story collection, which spans forty years of work and features many never-before-published pieces, Alan Moore presents a series of wildly different and equally unforgettable characters who discover-and in some cases even make and unmake-the various uncharted parts of existence. In 'A Hypothetical Lizard,' two concubines in a brothel for sorcerers fall in love, with tragic ramifications. In 'Not Even Legend,' a paranormal study group is infiltrated by one of the otherworldly beings they seek to investigate. In 'Illuminations,' a nostalgic older man decides to visit a seaside resort from his youth and finds the past all too close at hand. And in the monumental novella 'What We Can Know about Thunderman,' which charts the surreal and Kafkaesque history of the comics industry over the last seventy-five years through several sometimes-naive and sometimes-maniacal people rising and falling on its career ladders, Moore reveals the dark, beating heart of the superhero business. From ghosts and otherworldly creatures to the four horsemen of the apocalypse to theoretical Boltzmann brains fashioning the universe at the big bang, Illuminations is exactly that-a series of bright, startling tales from a contemporary legend that reveal the full power of imagination and magic. Here, for the first time, is a comprehensive biography of the mythic icon among geek and gaming culture, Gary Gygax - and the complete story behind the creation of Dungeons & Dragons. The 'godfather' of all fantasy adventure games, Gary Gygax has a life story that has been told only in bits and pieces. Michael Witwer has written a dynamic, dramatized biography of Gygax, spanning from his childhood in Lake Geneva to his untimely death in 2008. Gygax's magnum opus, Dungeons & Dragons, would explode in popularity throughout the 1970s and '80s, irreversibly altering the world of gaming. D&D is the best-known, best-selling role-playing game of all time, and it boasts an elite class of player alumni - Stephen Colbert, Robin Williams, and Junot Diaz all have spoken openly about their experience with the game as teenagers, and some credit it as the workshop where their nascent imaginations were fostered. Gygax's involvement in the industry lasted long after his dramatic and involuntary departure from D&D's parent company, TSR, and his footprint can be seen in the genre he is largely responsible for creating. But as Witwer shows, perhaps the most compelling facet of his life and work was his unwavering commitment to the power of creativity in the face of myriad sources of adversity - cultural, economic, and personal. Through his creation of the role-playing genre, Gygax gave generations of gamers the tools to invent characters and entire worlds in their minds. Told in a narrative-driven and dramatic fashion, Witwer has written an engaging chronicle of the life and legacy of this emperor of the imagination! (immagine) Categoria: Books: novel/sci fi/horror

One sleepless night while she was in her early twenties, Hallie Bateman had a painful realization: Someday, her mother would be gone. The prospect was devastating, and also scary - how would she navigate the world without the person who gave her life? She thought about all the motherly advice she would miss, advice that could help her through the challenges to come, including the ordeal of losing a parent. The next day, Hallie asked her mother, writer Suzy Hopkins, to record step-by-step instructions for her to follow in the event of her mom's death. The project became a way for mother and daughter to discuss everyday realities with humor, openness, and gratitude. Combining Suzy's witty and heartfelt advice with Hallie's quirky and colorful style, What to Do When I'm Gone is the illustrated instruction manual for getting through life without one's mom.
