Mark Lawrence was born in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, to British parents but moved to the UK at the age of one. Since returning to the UK, he has worked mainly on image processing and decision/reasoning theory. He never had any ambition to be a writer, so he was very surprised when a half-hearted attempt to find an agent turned into a global publishing deal overnight. His first trilogy, The Broken Empire, has been universally acclaimed as a groundbreaking work of fantasy, and both Emperor of Thorns and The Liar’s Key have won the David Gemmell Legend Award for best fantasy novel. Mark is married, with four children, and lives in Bristol.

Multiple Eagle Award winner Paul Gulacy made history as artist on one of comicdom’s first graphic novels, Eclipse Comics’ Sabre (1978), written by Don McGregor. At Marvel, he collaborated with writer Doug Moench on two incarnations of Master of Kung Fu, two Six from Sirius miniseries and the “Coldblood” feature in Marvel Comics Presents. The two also worked together at DC on Slash Maraud and multiple Batman titles/storylines, and at Dark Horse on James Bond 007: Serpent’s Tooth; he has also drawn Dark Horse adaptations from the Star Wars and Terminator franchises and provided art for an array of series at DC and elsewhere.
