Yoshikazu Yasuhiko is a Japanese animator and manga artist, who also has been noted as a published author and an illustrator of children's books and young adult books. His career as a character designer has spanned three decades, creating famed characters for such anime as Space Cruiser Yamato, Brace Raideen, and the widely known Mobile Suit Gundam. Considered a pivotal player in mecha and sci-fi anime, Yasuhiko's characters, stories and illustrations are unmistakable in their style and serve as timeless examples as pioneers of manga and animation in Japan.Born in 1947, Yasuhiko began his career as an animator in Osama Tezuka's Mushi Productions, and later on decided to go freelance to work for a number of animation productions for both film and television. In 1981, he took home a Seiun award for Best Artist of the Year. Praise and accolades continued for Yasuhiko, when he took home the Nippon Mangaka Kyokai (Japan Cartoonists Society) award in 1992, followed by an Excellence Prize in manga for Ōdō no Inu at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2000. In 1998, Matz’s hit series, The Killer, with artist Luc Jacamon, made its comic book debut. It became a bestseller that found its way onto the shelves of bookstores in many countries, all the way to the US with Archaia. It was then optioned by Paramount for a movie that has drawn the interest of director David Fincher (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Matz has also created a new line of comic books, Rivages/Casterman/Noir, which are adaptations of noir novels. But Matz’s day job for the last 15 years has been to write for the video-game industry, as he has been an employee at Ubisoft. Over the past decade few female comic artists have been as beloved as Fumi Yoshinaga. Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1971, Yoshinaga is a graduate of the prestigious Keio University of Tokyo. A lifelong comic artist and story teller, she made her perfessional debut in 1994 with her short series, The Moon and the Sandals, serialized in Hanaoto magazine, but was previously a participant in many indie comic and fanzine conventions.Since her debut Yoshinaga has been 16 series, a few of which have been adapted into motion pictures and animated TV series. Her work on Antique Bakery sent her into international fame and she has been nominated for the Eisner Award for her titles - Flowers of Life and Ooku-The Inner Chamber. Kurt Busiek is perhaps most famous for his Eisner Award-winning collaboration with Alex Ross on Marvels, a fully painted classic that still amazes a quarter of a century later.
