Dopo Squeak the Mouse, arrivano raccolte in un attesissimo volume tutte le avventure di Joe Galaxy: Coconino Press continua a proporre in edizioni integrali l’opera di Massimo Mattioli, lo sfuggente e irriverente genio fondatore della storica rivista Cannibale e poi tra i protagonisti del gruppo Frigidaire insieme a Stefano Tamburini, Andrea Pazienza, Filippo Scòzzari e Tanino Liberatore. Nato alla fine degli anni ’70 sulle pagine della rivista Il Male, Joe Galaxy è un avventuriero spaziale alla costante ricerca di lavoretti sporchi, tali da fargli guadagnare mucchi di denaro. Per metà aquila e per metà papero, ma al cento per cento umano, indossa una tutina blu come il pianeta Terra, calzari e guanti bianchi come la Via Lattea e una Colt fotonica alla cintola che non esita a impugnare quando le cose prendono una brutta piega. Non è solo l’omaggio a decine di pellicole che vanno dalla serie A alla Z, la rilettura di un genere narrativo che ha fondato il nostro sguardo sul futuro. Ma il palesarsi di un universo strampalato dove tutto è lecito e accettabile, di un turbinio di azione e nonsense, umorismo nero e violenza gratuita, sesso delirante e raffiche di gag all’azoto nitrico. Fuori catalogo da decenni, questa edizione definitiva raccoglie tutti gli episodi di Joe Galaxy, a partire dal 1979 quando il personaggio si chiamava ancora Joe Galassia, con una pioggia di materiale mai riproposto in volume e una storia finale inedita, “Planet Doris”, fatta “per gioco” nel 2018. “I fumetti di Joe Galaxy? Pensate alla navicella spaziale che trafigge l’occhio della Luna di Méliès, cioè alla nascita del cinema come lo intendiamo oggi, immaginate un Buck Rogers sotto acido che sonnecchia, impreca, mena, ammazza e fotte, aggiungete i monologhi dei polizieschi hard-boiled e le parodie di Philip K. Dick, un’estetica pop che va dalle Merrie Melodies a Lichtenstein, passando per Robert Crumb, Gilbert Shelton e Moebius. Moltiplicate per mille ed elevate al quadrato. Non vi sarete neanche avvicinati”.
