esempio: @author Stan Lee
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
codice a barre.

By Peter Bagge Fans of Peter Bagge's generation-defining, satirical fiction may not realize this, but the cartoonist doubles as an opinionated cuss, and has been contributing provocative (but still hilarious) comic-strip opinion pieces to Reason magazine for the last several years... finally collected in this volume. Although a libertarian by inclination (hence the Reason gig), Bagge (who lives in the fuzzy-headed, liberal capital of the Northwest, Seattle) is hardly dogmatic, and many of the pieces undermine traditional party lines in favor of a rather personal, rational and informed take on hot-button issues that will force partisan Democrats and Republicans alike to rethink them. And of course, Bagge's well-researched comic strip 'essays' crackle with the same energy and wit that propelled him into the collective Gen X consciousness with his comic book series Hate. Favorite topics include the erosion of our civil liberties (whether the post-9/11 Bush administrations' gradual erosion of the Bill of Rights, the insanity of the war on drugs, or nanny-state meddling), ongoing boondoggles of the American public (for professional sports stadiums or ineffective public transportation systems), the Iraq war (Bagge is vociferously against it), politicians both in general and in particular (including the 2008 presidential race and a revelatory one-on-one with Republican not-so-hopeful Ron Paul that soured Bagge on the candidate forever), and the conservative/religious war on sex. Each piece features Bagge himself front and center as the puzzled, indignant, or deeply conflicted everyman-on-the-street trying to make sense of this 21st Century. And of course, every panel is delineated in Bagge's glorious, laugh-out-loud stretchy 4-color cartoon style, making even his disquisitions on some very serious topics go down as smoothly as Buddy Bradley's latest escapade. by Hans Rickheit AN ANACHRONISTIC PARABLE FOR THE CONVULSIVE ELITE What is the squirrel machine? Is it a rodent ensnarement device? A mecha nism for concealing one's guarded harvest? An anachronistic fable? A meaning less diversion? Set in a fictional 19th Century New England town, the narrative initially details the relationship and maturation of Edmund and William Torpor. But the two brothers quickly elicit the scorn and recrimination of an unamused public when they reveal their musical creations built from strange technologies and scavenged animal carcasses. Driven to seek a concealment for their aberrant activities, they make a startling discovery. Perhaps they will divine the mystery of the squirrel machine. What is The squirrel Machine? o An immutably strange and haunting narrative that transcends known logics and presumptive dream-barriers; o A distillation of subconscious beauty and inspired madness; o A dangerous object for the incautious; o A revelation for the undernourished crypto-seeker; o The virgin caress of unconsummated apocalypse; o The unspeakable thing that you always knew. It's also the longest and most ambitious graphic novel by legendary obscurantist cartoonist Hans Rickheit, 200 pages of exquisitely rendered pictorial narrative. Meticulous, strange, and hauntingly beautiful, this enigmatic work will ensure the inquisitive reader a spleenful of cerebral serenity that will take exposure to vast quantities of mediocrity to dispel. HANS RICKHEIT was born in 1973 and grew up in New England, lived in the basement of an eccentric art gallery/performance space called the Zeitgeist Gallery from 1997 to 2002, and currently resides in Philadelphia. He is the author of the graphic novel Chloe, the comics series Chrome Fetus, and has appeared in various anthologies, including Paper Rodeo, hoax, and Kramers Ergot. by E.C. Segar This second volume of the acclaimed hit series collecting the entirety of E.C. Segar's original Popeye (a.k.a. Thimble Theatre) comic strips begins with a foreword by Beetle Bailey creator Mort Walker, and continues with an introduction by noted film and cartooning critic Donald Phelps. This second volume features work from 1930 to 1932, and most notably includes the debut of Segar's second greatest character: J. Wellington Wimpy, which stands as a one-of-a-kind icon some 70 years after his creation - the most likeable lowdown cad ever to grace the comics page. Popeye Volume 2 includes the stories: 'Clint Gore' (continued from the cliffhanger last volume); 'A One-Way Bank,' in which Popeye opens a bank that allows withdrawals but no deposits; a long war story featuring King Blozo that begins with 'The Great Rough-House War'; and 'Skullyville,' which wraps up the daily strips for this volume. by Daniel Clowes The dramatic short stories included in this softcover edition of CARICATURE have drawn comparisons to Nabokov for their complex naturalism and sense of humor. by Jim Woodring Jim Woodring's charcoal drawings take the otherworldly qualities of his comics (The Frank Book) to a higher level of clarity and nuance. These crisply rendered images reflect his life-long obsession with hidden worlds, alternate realities and the inexplicable resonance of the unprecedented and irrational in lucid art. Seeing Things collects the most toothsome of these drawings and arranges them in four sections. 'Lazy Robinson' is a series of portraits of forms taken by a cognizant object during the course of a specific and identifiable stream of thought. 'Frogs' celebrates the tender proclivities of the most noble of all animals, by placing them in situations that would dismay a horde of saints. 'The Visible World' is a roundup of appalling scenes of sub-rational political activity involving catalytic entities with a high ratio of motivation to altruism. And 'The Portfolio in Color' appears like a rainbow at the end of all this exalted storminess to send readers out into the world whistling with delight. Many of these images were created for 'Mysterio Sympatico,' Woodring's multimedia stage collaboration with guitarist Bill Frisell. There is plenty of echoless, glowing furniture to add to that already crowded storeroom which is briefly, but brilliantly, illuminated in the pages of this stately book. by Johnny Ryan Johnny Ryan is the one-man Mad magazine behind the quarterly comic-book series, Angry Youth Comix. Collecting issues #6-10 of Angry Youth Comix, Johnny Ryan's XXX Scumbag Party features such signature Ryan characters as Boobs Pooter, Loady McGee, Sinus O'Gynus, Baby Johnson, and Blecky Yuckerella. Featured stories include: 'Sherlock McRape in 'Who Hit Nelly in the Belly with Jelly,' 'Battle of the Century' (a thinly-veiled satire of two well-known, anachronistic graphic novelists), the epic 'O'Pussy,' and even-more-epic 'Dry Gulch Follies 2005,' featuring just about every character Ryan ever created in one 25-page comedy masterpiece. Peppering the stories are over 100 hilariously profane gag cartoons peppered throughout the book. (That's a lot of pepper!) (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

by Ivan Brunetti A psychiatric case study masquerading as a fancy-pants graphic novel, Misery Loves Comedy collects Ivan Brunetti's early issues (no pun intended)... wait, let's rephrase that. Misery Loves Comedy collects the first three issues of the legendary comic book series Schizo in their entirety, as well as a host of miscellaneous flotsam and jetsam from various anthologies, c.1992-2005. Readers will find the author's unwitting self-caricature as a paranoid, deluded young man intriguingly repugnant and often chuckle-inducing. Besides Brunetti's trademark nihilism, self-loathing, relentless depression, and inchoate, spittle-soaked misanthropy, these earlier comics offer a dollop of scatology and blasphemy for that extra puerile, lowbrow tang. Also: lots and lots of filthy jokes. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

by Jaime Hernandez One of the most humane, graceful and imaginatively inexhaustible artists in American popular culture, Jaime Hernandez has created in Locas one of the great American novels of the last 25 years, graphic or otherwise. Maggie's story begins in the early-1980s Southern California rock scene, when it was shifting from the excesses of glitter rock to the gritty basics of punk and new wave. She quickly befriends Hopey Glass, a feisty anti-authoritarian punkette who quickly becomes Maggie's on-again, off-again lover and a constant presence in her life throughout the book. This book contains all the Maggie stories from the first Love & Rockets series. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

by Mark Kalesniko Alex is the story of failed dreams and the consequences faced by a man who discovers that accomplishing his career goals are no route to inner peace. It is a story about the redemptive power of art, and about how fleeting those chances for redemption can be in a society that emphasizes different values. This existential, 250-page exploration of depression and the healing power of art was originally published over ten years ago as a six-issue comic book series and is collected here as one book for the first time. by Lewis Trondheim Midnight. A small Parisian apartment in the 1930s. A rabbit, a cat, and a dog scream in terror as a giant monster lunges toward them. That's the opening scene of Harum Scarum, a European-style album that mixes action, humor, horror, and funny-animals with a uniquely modern flair. This series mixes sardonic wit with a genuinely thrilling story that involves a plague of monsters, a fake paleontologist, a secret formula, a time-travel machine, foreign agents, corrupt cops, arson, gunfire, tipping, and the search for the perfect headline. by Charles M. Schulz In this volume of the bestselling Complete Peanuts series, Charles Schulz introduces one (in fact, three) of the quirkiest characters to the Peanuts universe, the numerically-monikered 95472 siblings. They didn't stay around very long but offered some choice bits of satirical nonsense while they did. As it happens, this volume is particularly rich in never-before-reprinted strips: over 150 (more than one fifth of the book!) have never seen the light of day since their original appearance over 40 years ago, so this will be a trove of undiscovered treasures even for avid Peanuts collectors.
