esempio: @author Stan Lee
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
codice a barre.

ENJOY THE ECSTASY OF AGONY. Amy and Jordan are just like us: hoping for the best, even when things go from bad to worse. They are menaced by bears, beheaded by ghosts, and hunted by the cops, but still they struggle on, bickering and reconciling, scraping together the rent and trying to find a decent movie. It’s the perfect solace for anxious modern minds, courtesy of one of the great innovators of American comics. Now if only Amy’s skin would grow back ... This NYRC edition features a recreation of the original, pocket-size, slipcovered paperback, designed by Art Spiegelman and Francoise Mouly.
Mark Beyer is a self-taught artist who began making comics in 1975. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Village Voice, and many other publications, and was a mainstay of RAW magazine. He created a series of animated shorts for MTV’s Liquid Television, designed album covers for John Zorn, and collaborated with Alan Moore. Amy and Jordan, the stars of his graphic novel Agony, were also featured in a newspaper strip that ran from 1988 to 1996, and which was collected in Amy and Jordan in 2004. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited around the world, including in Europe, Japan, and the United States.Colson Whitehead is the author of five novels, including Zone One, Sag Harbor, and The Intuitionist. His latest book is The Noble Hustle, a nonfiction account of the 2011 World Series of Poker. He is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a MacArthur Fellowship.

by (W) William Gropper (A) Sammy Harkham (CT) James Sturm
A lost, early classic of the graphic novel, now back in print for the first time since 1930.William Gropper was one of the great American cartoonists and illustrators of the twentieth century. A student of George Bellows and Robert Henri, he was a prolific newspaper cartoonist, WPA muralist, Guggenheim Fellow, and committed political activist--the first visual artist called before the House Un-American Activities Committee, after which he was blacklisted (though he got revenge with his pen). He was also a master of visual storytelling, best seen in his only full-length narrative work, Alay-Oop. First published in 1930, just as Gropper was coming to the height of his powers, this lost classic of the graphic novel presents an unusual love triangle: two circus acrobats and the honey-tongued schemer who comes between them. In page after page of charming, wordless art, Gropper takes us from the big top to bustling New York streets, from a cramped tenement apartment to the shifting landscape of a dream, as his characters struggle with the conflicting demands of career, family, and romance. A timeless and surprisingly modern yarn--with backflips aplenty.
William Gropper (1897-1977) was born on the Lower East Side of New York City into a working-class Jewish family. While enrolled at the avant-garde Ferrer Modern School, he studied under the artists George Bellows and Robert Henri, and after high school attended the New York School of Fine and Applied Arts (now the Parsons School of Design) on a scholarship. Following graduation, Gropper became a staff cartoonist for Morning Freiheit, a Yiddish newspaper, where he worked for two decades. He also contributed work to left-wing periodicals such as The Rebel Worker, Daily Worker, and World, and founded the leftist magazine New Masses. In 1953, Senator Joseph McCarthy had Gropper blacklisted, as he believed Gropper's widely disseminated painting William Gropper's America was inspired by Communist ideas. In 1970, Gropper published The Shtetl, a series of color lithographs depicting Jewish village life. He died in Manhasset, New York. James Sturm is a cartoonist and the author of The Golem's Mighty Swing, Market Day, and Off Season. He is also the cofounder of The Center for Cartoon Studies and Seattle’s alt newsweekly, The Stranger. His writings and illustrations have appeared in The Onion, The New York Times, the cover of The New Yorker, and in the pages of several children's books. He lives in Vermont.Sammy Harkham is a cartoonist and the editor of the influential comics anthology Kramers Ergot. He lives in Los Angeles.

by (W) Blutch (CT) Matt Madden
A star of French comics imagines America--its movie stars, its history, its fashion--in these tantalizing graphic short stories about everything from love to, yes, the actor Robert Mitchum.Blutch is one of the most inventive storytellers in comics, and nothing reveals it like Mitchum. Serialized and collected in the mid-90s and never before available in English, this is Blutch at his most wide-ranging: from Puritan fever dreams to an encounter with a shape-shifting Robert Mitchum, Blutch builds stories out of his dreams, visions of America, and anything else he can get his hands on. Drawn in his unmistakable line that veers in a moment from crude to elegant, blotchy to crisp, horrific to serene, these comics show Blutch searching for new artistic frontiers. What he finds is sometimes surprising, occasionally unsettling, and endlessly fascinating.
Blutch (Christian Hincker) is an award-winning, highly influential French cartoonist. He has published almost two dozen books since his 1988 comic debut in the legendary avant-garde magazine Fluide Glacial, including Le Petit Christian, So Long, Silver Screen, and Peplum (available from NYR Comics). His illustrations appear in Les Inrockuptibles, Libération, and The New Yorker.Matt Madden is a translator and cartoonist. He is the author of 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style, which is a comics adaptation of Raymond Queneau's Exercises in Style, and of two textbooks co-written with his wife, Jessica Abel, Drawing Words & Writing Pictures and Mastering Comics. Madden and Abel were series editors of The Best American Comics for six years. He translated Edmond Baudoin's graphic novel Piero for New York Review Books. He lives in Philadelphia.
