esempio: @author Stan Lee
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
codice a barre.
In My Life & Times, Spain Rodriguez draws on his formative years cruising with teen pals, visiting jazz clubs and his first encounters with women. Through paintings, sketchbook pages, and dozens of stories, My Life & Times explains how Spain went from a misguided youth to a community elder who bridged the gap between underground comix and the Latino Art Movement. This collection of comics from Zap, Blab!, Young Lust, Rip Off Comix, and The Comics Journal represents Spain's most personal work from his over six-decade career. Expanding Fantagraphics' project to reprint Marvel Comics' 1950s genre titles, this volume blasts off to space opera adventure. In the vein of earlier comics-to-multimedia stars Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon, Atlas Comics launched their own pulp hero in 1951, looking ahead to the futuristic year 2000. Across five issues of Space Squadron (and one of Space Worlds), headline talents including George Tuska, Werner Roth and Allen Bellman (with back-up features by Joe Maneely, Christopher Rule, George Klein and Vern Henkel) showed Captain Jet Dixon and his Space Squadron blasting into action, facing cosmic threats like 'The Armada of Death,' 'The Space Demons,' 'Terror from the Deep,' 'The Temptress of Jupiter,' and 'The Midnight Horror.' Come 1953, Hank Chapman and Joe Maneely gazed further into the future, envisioning the distant year 2075 and the adventures of Speed Carter, Spaceman. Scripted throughout by Chapman, Maneely launched and drew the first three issues before handing off to one issue each by Mike Sekowsky, George Tuska and Bob Forgione, with back-up features by John Romita, Maneely, and Bill Savage. As other aspects of the Atlas line leaned into the peak of pre-Code horror, the Captain of the Space Sentinels and young cadet Johnny Day battled monstrous aliens with stories including 'The Space Trap,' 'A Slaughter in Space,' 'Die, Spaceman, Die,' and 'The Thing in Outer Space.' Unseen in 70 years, scanned in high resolution, restored to perfection, and packaged as one extra-sized, beautiful hardcover volume, In the Days of the Rockets will open a wormhole to the early cold-war four-color era of futuristic science fantasy. HANK CHAPMAN (1915-1973) wrote steadily for a variety of comics publishers between 1940 and 1967, usually uncredited, but he has been identified as the author of several hundred stories. He is most known for his war stories while on staff at Atlas in the 1950s and at DC in the '50s and '60s. JOE MANEELY (1926-1958) landed at Timely in 1949 following the Street & Smith line's collapse and freelanced for Timely/Atlas for the next eight years, becoming one of the most prolific and important artists of the Atlas period. MIKE SEKOWSKY (1923-1989) was a prolific workman of the Silver Age of comics, notably co-creating the Justice League of America for DC in 1960 and having a run as writer/artist on Wonder Woman. But he began at Timely, drawing everything from Ziggy Pig and Silly Seal to The Human Torch and The Sub-Mariner. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

by Various; edited by Glenn Head The cartoon anthology that puts the kicks back in comics strikes again! Climb on board the Hotwire Express for another electrifying joyride - from the sublime to the ridiculous - and all parts in between. Volume 2 includes some of the strongest narrative comics around. Tim Lane's autobiographical strip, 'Spirit,' portrays the grittiness, desperation, and terror he experienced as a bum, riding the rails. 'Niacin,' by Mary Fleener, is the hilariously sordid story of a hallucinatory date with a drug dealer. Mack White deconstructs the western myth of the OK Corral gunfight in 'Showdown at Hustler's Ridge.' Glenn Head's 'Oozing Dread!' tells the Twilight Zone-ish tale of Wilhelm Reich, madcap genius-inventor of the orgone box. 'Communicable Disease' by Carol Swain shows the descent of a young Scottish lass into impoverished hell. Dutch artist Tobias Tak delivers a fantastical retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk with his comic, 'The Ten Inch Giant.' All this and more, wrapped in a absolute killer cover by Tim Lane! This entrancing collection of graphic short stories explores the occult forces that touch upon our everyday lives. Within our visible world, there are hidden worlds full of unknown forces whose nature we cannot fathom. Ocultos swirls together a series of stories that form a bridge between our world to the next, where thoughts and dreams can bend and shape reality. A woman in therapy is haunted by disturbing visions; a lonely widower feels a presence wafting through her house; a little boy sees bright red lights flash across the night sky. Vivid dreams, poignant symbols, fleeting sensations - all clues that point to an understanding of what lies beyond. Celebrated for her previous graphic novel, Totem, Spanish comics artist Laura Pérez presents another entrancing vision of magic and mystery. Artfully rendered in her signature wispy, atmospheric pencil lines punctuated by splashes of color, Ocultos is a spiritual, reflective work that will leave you spellbound. A visual guide to fascinating historical facts and philosophical musings on why and how the objects we buy, own, use, see and interact with - from tanks to iPhones - come into existence. We all live in a world of objects, yet we rarely stop to think about how and why they came to exist, why they look and feel the way they do, or what shapes our preferences and why we own and use the ones we do. In Things We Create, renowned concept designer, cartoonist, and sculptor Axel Brechensbauer pulls back the curtain and provides a visual guide to civilization's endless quest for the perfect human-made object. Told in eight chapters covering topics such as 'The Need of Objects,' 'Recreating Nature, 'Objects as Communication,' and 'Objects as Power,' Brechensbauer takes the reader on a rollicking tour through the history and creation of objects that comprise our world. He digs into the basics of design, discusses why certain some objects please us while others repel us, considers how the design of one object influences another, reveals how human curiosity keeps in step with technology. He answers questions such as, what makes objects so pleasing to use? Why do we create objects that are so contrary to those that appear in nature? What's the difference between an object that fills an emotional need and one that fulfills a practical one? What determines if a piece of furniture is a copy, an artifact, or art? What is the relationship between shape and emotion? Told with visual verve, wit, humor, and, above all, clarity, Things We Create is both a history of and a metaphysical study of physical objects - all the stuff we buy, we use, we collect, we need. As befits a book about the beauty and utility of objects, Things We Create is itself both a beautifully designed and executed object and an immensely fun and readable series of comics and diagrams. By Jules Feiffer In 1956, a relatively unknown cartoonist by the name of Jules Feiffer started contributing a strip to the only alternative weekly published in the US, a small radical newspaper called The Village Voice. It was the first time the American public had been subjected to a weekly dose of comics that so uncompromisingly and wittily confronted individuals' private fears and society's public transgressions. Explainers is the first of four volumes collecting Feiffer's entire run of weekly strips from The Village Voice. This edition contains approximately 500 strips originally published between 1956 and 1966 in a gigantic landscape hardcover format. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

by Dan Clowes TWENTIETH CENTURY EIGHTBALL collects the very best humor strips from Eightball, written and drawn between 1988 and 1996. Included within are such seminal strips as 'I Hate You Deeply,' 'Sexual Frustration,' 'Ugly Girls,' 'Why I Hate Christians,' 'Message to the People of the Future,' 'Paranoid,' 'My Suicide,' 'Chicago,' and over three dozen more. Also included is Clowes' hilariously Freudian deconstruction of professional athletes, 'On Sports,' which caused a stir in San Antonio when reprinted in the city's most popular weekly paper, prompting an advertising boycott and demands for the paper to be destroyed by local sports fans. Further on display is Clowes' absurdist sense of humor, from strips like 'Zubrick and Pogeybait' and 'Hippypants and Peace-Bear' to 'Grip Glutz,' 'The Sensual Santa,' and 'Feldman.' Noted comics historian Roger Sabin, author of Phaidon's Comics, Comix and Graphic Novels, calls Eightball a 'corrosively satirical vision of an America cracking apart, and confirms Clowes as a worthy successor to the underground greats of the 1960s.' With over 40 pages in color TWENTIETH CENTURY EIGHTBALL is sure to be one of Clowes' most popular books for years to come. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

In Nate Neal's first full length graphic novel, the author explores the primal mysteries and sordid inner workings of a Paleolithic cave-dwelling tribe, creating an original 'silent' reading experience by using symbols instead of words. When a mysterious nomad girl is offered up as an item of trade, she seeks refuge by forming a tenacious friendship with the local cave-painter turned outcast. Together they set out on a dangerous mission to bring truth to their corrupt tribe with the help of their new discovery (via some psychotropic mushrooms): drawings that tell a story. Subsequently, they become enmeshed in the violent power struggles and sensual intrigues between the alpha males and alpha females. In Sanctuary, art, inspiration, and communication is in conflict with tradition and law, and the novel dramatizes the moral imperative of man facing the truth even at the cost of his, and society's, lives. Featuring its own delicately crafted Paleolithic language, The Sanctuary breaks new ground by bringing complex ideas to the page with primal immediacy and sophistication through Neal's adroit use of pantomime storytelling that provide many layers of symbolism and meaning. This is a darkly comic journey through a prehistoric re-imagining of art and comics. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

The stories follow Larrybear, a young girl, and her acoustic guitar Marshmallow on their adventures through the countryside, Chicago, San Francisco, and New York. Two of Spain's most sophisticated comics creators examine the legacy of one the most enigmatic works in the history of art: Diego Velázquez's Las Meninas (The Ladies-in-Waiting). Olivares's art moves from style to style as The Ladies-in-Waiting uses fiction to explore the ties between artists and patrons, institutions and audiences and creators and creativity. Their combined efforts have made the book a commercial and critical sensation in Spain, garnering international comics prizes along with the equivalent of the National Book Award in Spain. In this graphic nonfiction book, Swedish cartoonist Liv Stromquist traces how different cultures and traditions have shaped women's health and beyond. Her ponytailed avatar guides the reader from the darkest chapters of history to the lightest. This is Vol. 2 of the biography of the legendary midcentury cartoonist, who created the comically grotesque 'Lena the Hyena.' This volume continues Sadowski's biography of the famed Mad cartoonist. It includes scores of letters between Wolverton and his editors and publishers and excerpts from his personal diaries, providing documentary insight not only into Wolverton's day-to-day life and career, but also the inner workings of the early comic book industry. It is also chock full of Wolverton's comics stories from this period, including 17 science-fiction and horror tales fully restored and never before collected in a single volume. A gripping story about a family pushed to the brink. This English language debut was the 2022 'Fauve d'Or' winner at the 2022 Angoulême Comics Festival. Márcia is a nurse in a hospital near Rio and lives in a favela with her boyfriend, Aluisio, and her daughter, Jaqueline, whom she had very young with another man. Jaqueline, a troubled young adult, makes life difficult for her mother and Aluisio and rebelliously hangs out with members of a neighborhood gang, leading to violent altercations between mother and daughter. The situation degenerates even more when Jaqueline is arrested. Márcia and Aluisio, distraught, realize that Jaqueline is in deeper trouble than they ever thought. Marcello Quintanilha's first English-language graphic novel is a tour de force - a tightly wound drama filled with masterful suspense and a deep love for family and character. Marcello Quintanilha was born in 1971 outside Rio de Janeiro. His first graphic novel, Tungsteno, published in 2015, was adapted for film by director Heitor Dhalia. A blistering critique of digital media and a kaleidoscopic depiction of consumer culture, Eden II is both fanciful and satirical, a combination of deft cartooning and virtuosic storytelling. In the grungy, punk-inflected world Kenny Wroten creates, a cast of disaffected young characters struggle to find their purpose in life. Faced with a dying Earth and numbingly useless jobs, protagonists Ellis and Dr. Otis Heck invent an immersive virtual reality game, Eden II. But when Heck betrays Ellis and sells the game to a mysterious corporation, the lines between fantasy and reality begin to blur. As each chapter highlights a new character in the ensemble, the game's impact grows as the world becomes consumed by fantasy. Coming off the heels of their acclaimed queer comics Cannonball and Crimes, Eden II is Wroten's magnum opus, establishing them as a breakout graphic novelist. Philosophical, sarcastic, self-assured, Eden II is a vital work of the moment that positions Wroten alongside recent comics luminaries like Emily Carroll, Caroline Cash, Isabel Greenberg, Melanie Gilman, and Tillie Walden. Reminiscent of the stylized angst of Gregg Araki and Jamie Babbit's works, Wroten's imagery in Eden II reflects the blighted pastiche of Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker-and they have suffused that pastiche with a dark sense of humor and technologically enhanced moral ambiguity. Internationally acclaimed graphic novelist Olivier Schrauwen returns with a masterfully funny and profound day in the life narrative. Sunday follows, over the course of one day, the stream of consciousness of a fictionalized version of the author's cousin, Thibault. On the day of his girlfriend's return from an extended trip, Thibault wakes up, does nothing, gets James Brown stuck in his head, drinks and smokes, grows paranoid about his relationship, struggles to compose text messages, and watches The DaVinci Code, all the while avoiding anyone and everyone, descending deeper into his own thoughts and fears. Meanwhile, a former crush and another cousin of Thibault's plan a surprise birthday for him, sending the external and internal on a collision course. Schrauwen's brilliant comic timing and formal mastery transcends the quotidian nature of the plot. Through use of color, flashback and the dissonance between text and image, the ways in which Schrauwen layers a depiction of human consciousness as lines on paper are infused heavily with slapstick and white-knuckle tension and make for an exhilarating read and breathtaking use of the comics medium.
