esempio: @author Stan Lee
@artist artista: cerca solo articoli di questo artista. Per
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@publisher editore: cerca solo articoli di questo editore.
Per esempio: @publisher Marvel
Nota:1 potete anche usare le varianti in italiani: @autore,
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
La ricerca tenterà di individuare termini somiglianti oppure
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
È possibile effettuare la ricerca anche inserendo direttamente il
codice a barre.
Series Description: In the kingdom of Empiria, modern times have come. Now, anyone can have the power of a wizard by using magic crystals. They can power a magic mirror to talk with a friend across the kingdom, tune into your favorite show, or power a magic broom. Princess Mae didn’t spend her entire life studying magic just to be a shill for her father’s crystal business. He gets rich off his people while doing nothing to make their lives better. She made the sacrifice to have real power so she can protect her people, not exploit them. In Dragon City, Randy, a punk rock unicorn, is just trying to take the subway home. There it is. That look. He hates that look. These old timer unicorns were born before the Reformation. They must have had their horns taken by dragons. When they were young, by the look of it. Now they view the youngest generation with both pride and envy. The crops are failing, the cows skinny, and jobs are scarce. Justin lost his job at the dairy a few months ago. That doesn’t stop his elf neighbor from stopping by every night to drink his beer. Watch his mirror. Burn through his crystals. Then Petra shows up at Justin’s favorite bar. Why would a pretty lady like her be interested in a down-on-his-luck ex-farmer? She is the best thing to happen to him in years. Issue 6 Description: Justin has a revelation, Mae and Dingo explore N'Guruwe while Randy teams up with Freyagina. Writer/Creator: David K. Wilson Artist: Jacques Salomon Letterer: Scott O. Gerry Duggan has become one of Marvel’s most influential writers, having first made an impression at the House of Ideas with a lengthy and always surprising Deadpool run alongside his frequent writing partner, Brian Posehn. Among Duggan’s solo credits are Nova, Hulk and multiple tie-ins to the Secret Wars event. He added Deadpool to the revamped roster of Uncanny Avengers and brought his unique blend of action and humor to All-New Guardians of the Galaxy, leading up to the cosmic event series Infinity Wars. Marauders and Cable established him as a vital part of the storytelling team for the Dawn of X era, a role he has cemented further by launching the blockbuster new X-Men title. Duggan’s earlier collaboration with artist Phil Noto — The Infinite Horizon, a reimagining of Homer’s The Odyssey in a dystopian future — earned an Eisner Award nomination for Best New Series.New York-native Afro-Latinx writer Vita Ayala graduated from DC Comics’ inaugural Talent Development Workshop, soon working on some of the publisher’s most famous characters — including Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Suicide Squad. Their collaboration with artist Emily Pearson on zombie story The Wilds for Black Mask gained Ayala industry-wide attention, including at Marvel, where they demonstrated their talents on books including Shuri and Marvel Knights: 20th. The limited series Age of X-Man: Prisoner X followed, then the ongoing Morbius, and Ayala introduces a new generation of mutants for Dawn of X in Children of the Atom. In addition, they have written comic books featuring such diverse pop-culture icons as Xena: Warrior Princess and James Bond, as well as their critically acclaimed series Livewire for Valiant Comics.Tini Howard kicked her career into high gear by winning the 2013 Top Cow Talent Hunt, which led to her first comics credit as writer of Magdalena: Seventh Sacrament. She went on to write for major properties including Rick and Morty, Power Rangers and Barbie, and created her own series Assassinistas and Euthanauts, published by IDW. Howard arrived at Marvel to join the Dawn of X team on the pivotal book Excalibur, going on to mastermind the X of Swords crossover with Jonathan Hickman. Her other Marvel titles include Strikeforce, Death’s Head and Age of Conan: Bêlit.A writer for the Emmy Award-winning animated series Robot Chicken and co-creator of the stop-motion SuperMansion, Zeb Wells began making a name for himself at Marvel with his irreverent New Warriors limited series, which provided an inspiration for key story threads that would later appear in Civil War; he also wrote the Civil War: Young Avengers & Runaways tie-in. His collaboration with the late Seth Fisher on Fantastic Four/Iron Man: Big in Japan produced one of the 21st century’s most charming comics. Wells’ other credits include Daredevil: Battlin’ Jack Murdock, Venom: Dark Origin, Dark Reign: Elektra and Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Year One. He also contributed to the thrice-monthly “Brand New Day” era of Amazing Spider-Man, most notably with the “Shed” storyline; wrote two Carnage limited series; and helped relaunch New Mutants. Wells has returned to the world of the wall-crawler, teaming with the legendary John Romita Jr. for a new volume of Amazing Spider-Man.Writer Al Ewing began his career on the British anthology 2000 AD. Since breaking into American comics, he has written Jennifer Blood and spin-off series The Ninjettes for Dynamite Entertainment, and the Age of Ultron tie-in issues of Avengers Assemble for Marvel Comics. Ewing’s novels include the Pax Britannia series as well as The Fictional Man. With artist Greg Land, he relaunched Marvel’s Mighty Avengers; for All-New Marvel NOW!, gave the god of mischief a new assignment in Loki: Agent of Asgard. Ewing then took revamped versions of New Avengers and Ultimates, debuted U.S.Avengers; and joined the writing team for the “No Surrender” storyline in Avengers, which brought the Hulk back from the dead. His subsequent titles include Valkyrie, Guardians of the Galaxy, Defenders, the event series Empyre and the critically revered smash hit Immortal Hulk. Ewing has cemented his place in the Krakoan era of the X-Men titles comics with S.W.O.R.D. and X-Men: Red.Simon Spurrier is a rising talent in the U.S. comics world, but his work is well-known in his native England. He is a regular contributor to the venerable sci-fi comics anthology 2000 AD. On this side of the pond, Spurrier wrote Silver Surfer: In Thy Name and Ghost Rider: Danny Ketch for Marvel before fully unleashing his idiosyncratic voice through the multiple-personality mutant Legion in the pages of X-Men: Legacy. Spurrier’s recent titles include X-Force and the Secret Wars tie-in Marvel Zombies.Acclaimed author and screenwriter Benjamin Percy broke into comics in 2014 with a two-issue Batman story arc in Detective Comics. He is also known for his work on Nightwing, Green Arrow and Teen Titans for DC Comics, and James Bond: Black Box for Dynamite Entertainment. Percy wrote two seasons of Marvel’s Wolverine podcast series: Wolverine: The Long Night, which was listed as one of the top fifteen podcasts of the year by Apple and won the iHeart Radio Award for best scripted podcast in 2018, and Wolverine: The Lost Trail. In print, he was a key contributor to the X-Men’s Krakoan Era as writer of X-Force and Wolverine. Percy blazed a new trail for the Spirit of Vengeance with his deliciously dark revival of Ghost Rider and pitted some of Marvel’s greatest heroes against the iconic movie hunters, the Predators. After the mash-up concept Hellverine proved a smash hit in Percy’s Wolverine/Ghost Rider: Weapons of Vengeance crossover, the writer launched a Hellverine limited series followed by an ongoing series — with Wolverine’s son, Akihiro, assuming the mantle. And Percy was the ideal choice to unite the ultimate odd couple in the pages of Deadpool/Wolverine.Fast-rising star Leah Williams is a writer originally from Oxford, Mississippi, who has amassed an impressive list of Marvel credits in a short time. Highlights include What If? Magik, X-Men: Black — Emma Frost, Domino Annual and Giant-Man. Williams demonstrated her flair for comedy and meta storytelling with Gwenpool Strikes Back, and took on a beloved character in the pages of Amazing Mary Jane. For Dawn of X, she has recruited a new team of mutant investigators in X-Factor, and then wrote the seismic X-Men: The Trial of Magneto. Williams’ debut novel was a YA fantasy book titled The Alchemy of Being Fourteen, and she is writing a sequel, The Divinity of Hitting Fifteen.Jonathan Hickman is the award-winning writer/artist of critically acclaimed independent titles Pax Romana, Transhuman and The Nightly News. Teaming with writer Brian Michael Bendis, he launched Marvel’s Secret Warriors, spinning out of Secret Invasion. He then wrote the Dark Reign: Fantastic Four limited series, which served as a warm-up for his revered runs on Fantastic Four and FF, as well as two S.H.I.E.L.D. series. Hickman penned numerous Ultimate Universe titles before bringing his intricate plotting to Avengers and New Avengers. Hickman’s years of planning culminated with the Marvel Universe-shattering Secret Wars. His impressive list of credits includes a trio of lauded series for Image: East of West, Secret and the Eisner Award-nominated The Manhattan Projects. Hickman returned to Marvel to mastermind a transformative relaunch of its mutant titles, beginning with House of X and Powers of X, and continuing with X-Men.A former Disney animator who worked on films including The Lion King and Pocahontas, artist Phil Noto started in comics with DC’s Birds of Prey and Jonah Hex, and DC/Wildstorm’s Danger Girl. To’s Marvel credits include Black Panther, New Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men: Blue and New Warriors, but Excalibur is his longest and most acclaimed run.Artist Stephen Segovia has worked with several publishers on a variety of titles, including Cast for Nautilus Comics in his native Philippines and Shadowmancer for UK publisher Markosia. His thrilling artwork made him the ideal illustrator for the blockbuster 2021 relaunch of X-Men with writer Gerry Duggan.Italian artist Valerio Schiti’s first work for Marvel Comics was “Sacrifice,” a short story appearing in 2011’s Ghost Rider #1. He has since illustrated Journey into Mystery, featuring the Asgardian warrior goddess Sif, with writer Kathryn Immonen and New Avengers with Jonathan Hickman. Writer Todd Dezago began his career on X-Factor. He then penned several Clone Saga-era Spider-books, including a lengthy Spectacular Spider-Man run. Dezago soon moved to Sensational Spider-Man, where he teamed with artist Mike Wieringo. For DC Comics, Dezago co-created Young Justice, wrote the JLA: World Without Grown-Ups miniseries and penned an acclaimed run on Impulse. In 1999, Dezago and Wieringo re-teamed to create the Image Comics fantasy series Tellos, and he co-created the Perhapanauts with artist Craig Rousseau in 2003. Dezago has written several stories for Marvel’s all-ages titles, including Marvel Age Spider-Man and Super Hero Squad.A native New Yorker, writer J.M. DeMatteis has been one of comics’ most respected writers for nearly three decades. Ranging from the introspective psychological drama of Moonshadow to the offbeat comedy of Justice League to the autobiographical Brooklyn Dreams, he’s written from nearly every perspective in graphic storytelling. His long list of credits includes Captain America, Defenders, Justice League International, the groundbreaking Spider-Man storyline “Kraven’s Last Hunt," Spectre and more. His recent work includes the acclaimed children's novel Imaginalis and the popular comics-prose hybrid Abadazad books.Howard Mackie got his start at Marvel during the late 1980s as an editor and then a writer. One of his first series as full-time scribe was 1990’s massively popular Ghost Rider, which introduced the alter ego Danny Ketch to the mythos of the Spirit of Vengeance. He also wrote prolifically in the Spider-Man and X-Men titles of the ’90s.Tom DeFalco’s earliest comic-book scripts were for Archie and DC; he soon moved to Marvel, where he wrote Avengers, Machine Man and other titles, also launching Dazzler, a hit series of the early ’80s. In addition to writing long and well-received runs on Amazing Spider-Man and Thor, DeFalco edited many titles, eventually becoming editor in chief. During the 1980s, he headed the creative team that provided fictional biographies for G.I. Joe members, originally included with Hasbro’s toys and later used as the basis for multiple storylines on the animated series. Perhaps his best-known work is multi-title character Spider-Girl, whom he introduced in 1998. DeFalco has authored multiple books, including Ultimate Guides for Avengers, Fantastic Four, Hulk and Spider-Man.After beginning his writing career on DC horror titles, David Michelinie moved to Marvel. He and co-writer/inker Bob Layton established Iron Man’s battle with alcoholism, use of specialized armor variants and vendetta against Doctor Doom, as well as other aspects of the character that endure to this day. Michelinie’s unique blend of action, suspense and humor distinguished not only Iron Man, but also Amazing Spider-Man. With artist Todd McFarlane, he introduced the vicious vigilante Venom; he also wrote the first Venom limited series, Lethal Protector. Michelinie’s run as Amazing writer was second in length only to that of Stan Lee himself, while he also authored tie-in titles Spectacular Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man and Spider-Man. He moved from Marvel’s flagship character to DC’s with a stint on Superman’s Action Comics, later returning to the world of Tony Stark for writing collaborations with Bob Layton on Iron Man: Legacy of Doom and Iron Man: The End.Writer, editor and colorist Evan Skolnick worked on an array of Marvel Comics titles, with his most prominent assignment as a scribe being his lengthy run on New Warriors. He also wrote Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme and 2099 Unlimited, among others. Now a prominent video-game writer, his credits include Mafia III and Star Wars: Battlefront.Hired on the strength of his Official Marvel Tryout penciling submission, Mark Bagley rose to prominence as the artist of 1990s sleeper hit New Warriors. Following an acclaimed run on Amazing Spider-Man, he worked with writer Kurt Busiek on Thunderbolts. When Marvel launched its Ultimate line, Bagley and Brian Michael Bendis led the way with Ultimate Spider-Man, whose years of success made the pair the longest-running creative team in Marvel history. Bendis and Bagley have also collaborated on Avengers Assemble and the creator-owned Brilliant. His subsequent credits include Fantastic Four, Cataclysm: The Ultimates’ Last Stand, Hulk, All-New X-Men and Venom. For over 20 years, few if any projects have diagramed super-hero costumes and technology without input from professional engineer Eliot R. Brown. Iron Man's armor, Moon Knight's helicopters, the Punisher's guns, Avengers Mansion, the Guardians of the Galaxy's spaceship, all have had their secrets revealed by Brown's expert penciling. He is also known for his work with photographic art. After establishing himself on Eternity’s Ex-Mutants and First’s Badger, Ron Lim went cosmic with a six-year penciling run on Silver Surfer, followed by a collaboration with Jim Starlin on the Warlock/Thanos Infinity multi-miniseries saga. With writer Tom DeFalco, he helped create the look and characters of the MC2 universe, while he explored a different Marvel future during a 35-issue run on X-Men 2099. Lim’s other Marvel credits include Captain America, Spider-Man Unlimited and Venom: Lethal Protector. After a start as inker to his older brother John, Sal Buscema penciled Captain America, Defenders, Incredible Hulk and more. Famed for his ability to meet tight deadlines, he spread his talents across multiple genres. His 1970s work ranged from Ms. Marvel and Nova to Sub-Mariner and Spider-Woman’s first appearance in Marvel Spotlight. He was the uninterrupted artist on Spectacular Spider-Man for more than a hundred issues and penciled the web-slinger’s adventures in Marvel Team-Up, in which he and writer Bill Mantlo introduced Captain Jean DeWolff. After handling more team-ups in the Thing’s Marvel Two-in-One, he reunited with brother John on Steve Englehart’s Fantastic Four. He later provided inks for Tom DeFalco’s Spider-Girl titles and Thunderstrike miniseries.Patrick “Patch†Zircher got his start illustrating RPG-based comics for Eclipse and 3D comics for Blackthorne during the late 1980s, and drew Now Comics’ Green Hornet. He has been an artist in demand ever since. His notable Marvel credits across the decades include New Warriors, Venom: Along Came a Spider, Star Trek: Early Voyages, Iron Man: The Iron Age, Thunderbolts, Cable & Deadpool, Iron Man, Hulk, Mystery Men and Savage Avengers.Well regarded as a modern master of the macabre, artist Kyle Hotz is best known for his uniquely creepy art style. Hotz first gained notice during the 1990s with extensive credentials on a long list of horror comics. Since then, he has gone on to illustrate Incredible Hulk, Ghost Rider and Venom for Marvel Comics, as well as The Hood in collaboration with writer Brian K. Vaughan. Hotz thrilled fans of the “living dead†genre with Zombie, a four-part limited series modernizing the classic ’70s-era Marvel horror character, and its sequel, The Zombie: Simon Garth.Artist Darick Robertson illustrated all sixty issues of Transmetropolitan with writer Warren Ellis. In the Fury limited series for Marvel, Robertson and Garth Ennis presented a graphically realistic vision of what it means to be the leader of the world’s biggest spy organization. He and Ennis next collaborated on the Marvel Knights Punisher series and later launched the controversial creator-owned series The Boys, now a smash-hit streaming series. In addition to his lengthy run on New Warriors, Robertson’s other Marvel credits include Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Toxin.

The classic anthology is collected in its complete form!As Marvel approached its 50th anniversary, the company launched a bold new series that echoed the variety and excitement of its earliest comics. MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS delivered a twice-monthly burst of high-energy storytelling, showcasing characters from across the Marvel pantheon. Top creators fueled the anthology: Claremont and Buscema unleashed signature Wolverine action — while Gerber, Moench and McGregor returned to Man-Thing, Shang-Chi and the Black Panther, respectively. The series also surprised readers with rare work from legends like Steve Ditko and Dave Cockrum and gave heroes such as Havok and Colossus room to shine. Fast, experimental and packed with surprises, MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS defined late-’80s Marvel. This series has never been collected in its complete form, and our continuing series of Omnibus will reprint every page!COLLECTING: Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #1-25Written by: Chris Claremont, Steve Gerber, Doug Moench, Ann Nocenti, Don McGregor, Bob Harras & Howard Mackie with Al Milgrom, John Byrne, Fabian Nicieza & morePenciled by: John Buscema, Tom Sutton, Tom Grindberg, Rick Leonardi, Gene Colan, Ron Lim & Rich Buckler with Steve Ditko, Al Milgrom, Bob Layton, John Byrne, Mark Badger, Dave Cockrum & more

Industry legend Chris Claremont is best known for his epic sixteen-year run on Uncanny X-Men. Claremont’s focus on the themes of prejudice and tolerance struck at the hearts of comics fans, and he built an unparalleled following during the next three decades. Under his pen, the X-Men franchise spawned a vast array of spin-offs, many of them written by Claremont himself. His other credits include Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, Power Man and Spider-Woman. Claremont has returned to the X-Men universe in New Exiles, GeNext, X-Men Forever, Chaos War: X-Men and Nightcrawler.Steve Gerber (1947-2008) first came to attention writing Defenders, in which he gave the non-team a non-traditional outlook equaled by few. In Adventure of Fear, he introduced Howard the Duck. Gerber’s other 1970s contributions included scripts for Iron Man, Sub-Mariner and more. Elsewhere, he is equally well-remembered for DC’s Phantom Zone, Eclipse’s Destroyer Duck and others. In addition to runs on Fantastic Four and Thor, original Moon Knight scribe Doug Moench specialized in writing features outside the Marvel mainstream — including Adventure into Fear’s Morbius, Frankenstein, Inhumans, Ka-Zar: Lord of the Hidden Jungle, Master of Kung Fu, Werewolf by Night and Astonishing Tales’ Deathlok. Proving his eclectic abilities, he also wrote the full run of Godzilla, most of Shogun Warriors and stories for virtually every Marvel black-and-white magazine of the 1970s. He expanded on his Star-Lord and Weirdworld sagas in multiple anthology titles. At DC, he wrote memorable runs on Batman, Detective Comics and Legends of the Dark Knight — along with numerous Batman one-shots, cross-company crossovers and Elseworlds sagas. He further contributed such short-lived but unique series as Electric Warrior, Lords of the Ultra-Realm, Slash Maraud, Wanderers and Xenobrood.Bob Harras edited several titles as Ralph Macchio’s assistant, mostly tie-ins such as Micronauts, Rom, Saga of Crystar and U.S. 1. He subsequently became chief editor of the X-Men titles and wrote for multiple series, including a three-year run on Avengers. Graduating to editor in chief, he oversaw well-received runs of Captain America, Daredevil, Deadpool and other titles, as well as the controversial second Clone Saga in the 1990s’ Spider-Man titles. Harras has since worked as contributing editor at WildStorm and collected editions editor for DC Comics. He began a decade-long stint as DC’s editor in chief in 2010.Howard Mackie got his start at Marvel during the late 1980s as an editor and then a writer. One of his first series as full-time scribe was 1990’s massively popular Ghost Rider, which introduced the alter ego Danny Ketch to the mythos of the Spirit of Vengeance. He also wrote prolifically in the Spider-Man and X-Men titles of the ’90s.Al Milgrom, A.K.A. “Editori-Al,†is renowned as writer, editor, penciler and inker — and held most of those positions on Spectacular Spider-Man. He also contributed to SSM’s sibling Amazing Spider-Man. He penciled West Coast Avengers for four years and inked X-Factor for eight. His artwork has also appeared in Avengers, Captain America, Thor and most X-titles, including the classic Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. As editor, he oversaw Marvel’s Epic imprint and the sixty-issue run of Marvel Fanfare, where his satirical self-portraits made his face as recognizable as any super hero’s mask. At DC, he co-created Firestorm the Nuclear Man with Gerry Conway.John Byrne has worked continuously in the comics industry as both writer and artist since 1975. After he initially collaborated with writer Chris Claremont on Iron Fist, Byrne and Claremont moved on to X-Men for a run still regarded as one of the title’s finest. Byrne contributed an equally famed stint on Fantastic Four, earning comparisons to the original Lee/Kirby issues for his imaginative plotlines and dynamic artwork. He also spun Alpha Flight into its own title. In 1986, he revamped DC’s flagship hero, Superman, reimagining the Man of Steel in a historic project heralded by a Time magazine cover. His remarkable contribution to the Marvel Universe extends to memorable associations with virtually every major hero, including celebrated runs on Captain America, Iron Man, Sensational She-Hulk, Namor the Sub-Mariner and Thing. In the 21st century, Byrne’s considerable body of work includes IDW’s Star Trek and Angel.Since his start on the New Universe’s Psi-Force and backup stories in Classic X-Men, Fabian Nicieza has written most of Marvel’s major super-teams — including Alpha Flight, the Avengers, the New Warriors, the Thunderbolts and the X-Men. Together with artist Rob Liefeld, Nicieza transformed New Mutants into the blockbuster X-Force. The writer also tackled solo heroes ranging from Cable and Deadpool (later combined in Cable & Deadpool) to Gambit and Nomad. He edited Marvel’s Star imprint, contributed to multititle X-events like “X-Cutioner’s Song†and “Phalanx Covenant,†and wrote various “pre-modern†limited series such as Adventures of Captain America and Citizen V and the V-Battalion. Elsewhere, he has written both JLA and Justice League Adventures, The 99, Turok, X-Files, and others.John Buscema (1927-2002) literally wrote the book on being a Marvel artist — namely, How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way — and few were better qualified. His career dated back to the Timely/Atlas era of the late ’40s and early ’50s. Soon after beginning the Marvel Age of Comics, Stan Lee recruited Buscema from the advertising field to the Marvel Bullpen. Buscema followed a long run on Avengers with the long-anticipated first Silver Surfer series. He subsequently succeeded Jack Kirby on Fantastic Four, Thor and other titles. By the time of his retirement in 1996, Buscema had penciled nearly every Marvel title — including his personal favorite, Conan the Barbarian. The industry lost an icon with the passing of Tom Sutton (1937-2002), best remembered as the original artist of the cult-classic icon Vampirella. Having begun his career with the comic strip Johnny Craig and contributions to underground comics, Sutton worked in multiple genres at Marvel — including Western (Kid Colt Outlaw, Rawhide Kid), humor (Arrgh, Crazy, Not Brand Ecch), super heroes (Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider), and the licensed Planet of the Apes titles. During a run on Amazing Adventures, he and writer Steve Englehart revamped the X-Men’s Beast into his better-known furry form. Moving to DC Comics, he penciled nearly every issue of the 1984-1988 series Star Trek and, with J.M. DeMatteis, co-created “I, Vampire†for House of Mystery before returning to Marvel to pencil a Man-Thing serial in Marvel Comics Presents. Sutton’s additional body of work includes art for Charlton Comics, Eros Comics, First Comics and Skywald Publications.Three different incarnations of Cloak and Dagger were only a few of Rick Leonardi’s artistic achievements for Marvel. His other credits include Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants and Spider-Man 2099. At DC, he drew Batman family titles Batgirl and Nightwing, as well as comic/film crossover Green Lantern vs. Aliens. At Event Comics, he penciled Painkiller Jane. The unique, shadowy style of Gene Colan (1926-2011) most memorably appeared in long stints on Captain America and Daredevil, and all 70 issues of Tomb of Dracula — among the dozens of other Marvel titles he has drawn. His DC work on Detective Comics and Night Force is equally well remembered. During the Golden Age, he drew multiple war stories for Marvel and DC alike. Colan has earned several Eagle Awards and had professional art showings in New York City. His work on Ed Brubaker’s Captain America at the age of 82 drew well-deserved raves. His place in Marvel history assured when he helped introduce Deathlok in the pages of Astonishing Tales, Rich Buckler also penciled several storylines in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man — along with runs on Jungle Action’s Black Panther, Fantastic Four, Thor and other monthly titles, as well as Roy Thomas’s miniseries Saga of the Sub-Mariner and Saga of the Original Human Torch. Buckler’s 1970s DC work includes Lois Lane, Secret Society of Super-Villains and World’s Finest, as well as the groundbreaking Superman vs. Shazam. During the 1980s, he and Thomas collaborated on All-Star Squadron. He worked in the barbarian and horror genres for both Marvel and DC, illustrated Archie’s Mighty Crusaders, and contributed to black-and-white magazines for both Marvel and Warren Publishing. He was editor of the short-lived Solson Publications and wrote two books on comic-book art.Steve Ditko (1927-2018) began his comics career in the anthologies of the 1950s, where his unique style and perspective quickly earned recognition and respect. Recruited to join Stan Lee’s Atlas Comics, later Marvel, in 1958, his nuances contrasted well with Jack Kirby’s bombast. In 1962, in the pages of Amazing Fantasy, Ditko and Lee brought to life Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man, changing the industry forever. The pair’s other iconic co-creation, Doctor Strange, debuted in Strange Tales. Ditko returned to Marvel during the late 1970s and remained for much of the 1980s — co-creating Speedball, Squirrel Girl and other characters.Al Milgrom, A.K.A. As editor, he oversaw Marvel’s Epic imprint and the sixty-issue run of Marvel Fanfare, where his satirical self-portraits made his face as recognizable as any super hero’s mask. At DC, he co-created Firestorm the Nuclear Man with Gerry Conway.Bob Layton began as a prolific and popular inker for Charlton, Marvel and DC Comics, where he first teamed with longtime collaborator David Michelinie on Claw the Unconquered and Star Hunters. The Michelinie-Layton duo’s writing work on Iron Man (1978-1982 and 1987-1989) is one of the most popular and influential interpretations of that character. Leaving Marvel in 1990, he became a key writer/artist/editor at Valiant Comics, where he co-created characters such as X-O Manowar and rose to the post of editor in chief before departing. He still does occasional freelance work for DC and Marvel, notably Michelinie-Layton reunion projects Iron Man: Bad Blood (2000), Iron Man: Legacy of Doom (2008) and Iron Man: The End (2009).John Byrne has worked continuously in the comics industry as both writer and artist since 1975. In the 21st century, Byrne’s considerable body of work includes IDW’s Star Trek and Angel.Mark Badger’s magic-oriented Marvel work includes the Defenders’ Gargoyle miniseries and the Greenberg the Vampire graphic novel, both written by fellow mysticism enthusiast J.M. DeMatteis; he also penciled Roger Stern’s Doctor Strange/Doctor Doom graphic novel. At DC, he illustrated adventures of two very different detectives, Batman and Martian Manhunter. His work elsewhere includes Dark Horse Presents and First Comics’ American Flagg. As a boy, artist Dave Cockrum (1943-2006) dreamed of working in the comic-book industry; after a six-year stint in the Navy, he headed straight for the big time. With a natural talent for illustrating super heroes, Cockrum landed a gig on Legion of Super-Heroes for DC Comics. Soon after his debut, Cockrum showcased his knack for innovative costume designs, becoming the first artist to revamp the look of the classic futuristic super-hero team since its original Silver Age debut. After leaving Legion in 1975, Cockrum collaborated with writer Len Wein to create a new lineup of X-Men – including Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Colossus. Cockrum’s bold new mutants quickly caught the attention of comic-book fans, transforming X-Men into a best-selling title. Although Cockrum has reduced his artistic output in recent years, his strong influence on modern creators remains steadfast – as evidenced by the release of The Uncanny Cockrum Tribute Book in 2004, boasting contributions from more than 75 notable writers and artists.
