DARK HORSE

Gary Baseman is a leader within an international cultural movement that includes both mainstream and underground art. After a career as a top commercial illustrator, creator of Disney's Teacher's Pet animated show, and artist for the Cranium board game, he felt he should not be 'limited to one world, whether the gallery world, editorial world, or art toy world.' He has now embraced them all with success. In March 2013, the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles will install a major career retrospective, My Door Is Always Open, that will run for six months. Dark Horse is celebrating with a new range of merchandise, all selected and approved by Gary Baseman. The Gary Baseman Veritas Pins will be a series of five deluxe sculpted metal pins, all with the theme of 'veritas' (Latin for 'truth'), newly designed by Baseman. At the forefront of Kotobukiya's new ARTFX Premier series is the god of thunder, Thor Odinson from Marvel's Avengers Fresh Start series! This 1/10 scale statue was crafted down to the finest detail using digital sculpting, giving this expertly crafted collector's piece an exquisite appearance alongside lifelike detail. The craftsmanship in this piece continues from the sculpting to the painting. Unlike other pieces which follow the pattern of a simple base coat with shading. ARTFX Premier re-evaluates the standards for figure painting. Each individual piece of the statue is layered with several types of paint, giving the finished product an unprecedented sense of beauty and depth. With these techniques in mind, Kotobukiya's craftsmen imagined what kind of materials may come out of the realm of Asgard to create the unique paint job on Thor's metal and leather armor, which transforms in color depending on the angle as it catches light. Measuring just under 3.5 centimeters (1.5 inches) in length, the statue's face is meticulously crafted and full of photographic lifelike detail. The statue comes in sophisticated packaging overflowing with elegant details, including a marble inspired motif as well as an original illustration based on the figure. Additionally, these limited edition statues will come with a certificate that includes a collector number printed in gold, certifying each piece as a one-of-a-kind original.
