Successivamente gli episodi autoconclusivi lasciano spazio ad una narrazione più continua che ci porta lentamente a scoprire, nella forma di un lungo flashback che vede il protagonista appena diciannovenne, il passato di Kintaro e le motivazioni del suo cambiamento, sviluppando alcuni personaggi importanti come la sua prima ragazza Yoko e il collega di studi universitari Masamune Kongoji.
