In the early years of the 19th-century, German writer E.T.A Hoffmann wrote the short story, 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,' about a young girl who enters a world of magical nutcrackers, and Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky would make the story famous the world over by transforming the tale into the ballet The Nutcracker.
