esempio: @author Stan Lee
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
codice a barre.

Writer/editor Stan Lee (1922-2018) made comic-book history together with Jack Kirby in 1961 with Fantastic Four #1. The monumental popularity of its new style inspired Lee to develop similarly themed characters — including the Hulk and X-Men with Kirby, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange with Steve Ditko, and Daredevil with Bill Everett. After shepherding his creations through dozens of issues — in some cases a hundred or more — Lee allowed other writers to take over, but he maintained steady editorial control. Eventually, he helped expand Marvel into a multimedia empire. In recent years, his frequent cameo appearances in Marvel’s films established Lee as one of the world’s most famous faces.Larry Lieber helped introduce Ant-Man in Tales to Astonish, Iron Man in Tales of Suspense and Thor in Journey into Mystery. He also wrote Human Torch solo stories for Strange Tales. In 1968, he and his brother, Stan Lee, collaborated on the pivotal Amazing Spider-Man Annual #5, which revealed the secret of Peter Parker’s parents. Lieber both wrote and drew runs on Marvel’s top Western titles: Kid Colt Outlaw, Rawhide Kid and Two-Gun Kid. Later, he scripted Marvel UK’s Captain Britain, also contributing occasional covers.Roy Thomas joined the Marvel Bullpen as a writer and editor under Stan Lee, scripting key runs of nearly every title of the time: Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Sub-Mariner, Thor, X-Men and more. He wrote the first 10 years of Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword of Conan; and launched such series as Defenders, Iron Fist, Invaders and Warlock. At DC, he developed All-Star Squadron, Infinity Inc. and related titles, proving instrumental in reviving the Golden Age Justice Society of America. Thomas later became editor of Alter Ego, a magazine devoted to comic-book history, and co-scripted the sword-and-sorcery films Fire and Ice and Conan the Destroyer.Born Jacob Kurtzberg in 1917 to Jewish-Austrian parents on New York’s Lower East Side, Jack Kirby came of age at the birth of the American comic book industry. Beginning his career during the rising tide of Nazism, Kirby and fellow artist Joe Simon created the patriotic hero Captain America. Cap’s exploits on the comic book page entertained millions of American readers at home and inspired U.S. troops fighting the enemy abroad. When World War II ended, the public’s interest in super heroes waned; Kirby turned his artistic talents during the 1950s to other genres, such as monsters, Westerns and crime — as well as the first-of-its-kind Young Romance Comics. In 1961, Kirby returned to super heroes to illustrate what would become the defining issue in Marvel Comics history: Fantastic Four #1. Written by Stan Lee, the team’s debut revolutionized the industry overnight. In contrast to the staid artwork of his predecessors, Kirby’s illustrations seemed to leap off the page with eye-popping action and drama. For the next decade, Kirby and Lee would introduce a mind-boggling array of new characters — including the Avengers, the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, the Silver Surfer and the X-Men. Taken together, Kirby’s groundbreaking work with Lee formed the foundation of the Marvel Universe. In the early 1970s, Kirby moved to DC Comics, where his boundless creativity continued. He returned to Marvel in 1975, writing and illustrating Captain America and introducing his final major concept, the Eternals. With the explosion of TV animation during the 1980s, Kirby’s talents turned to the small screen. Comic fans quickly recognized his work on such series as Thundarr the Barbarian and Turbo Teen. Kirby died in 1994, but his influence on the comic book industry is as strong as ever. His work has inspired a generation of professional artists and modern writers who continue to explore his vast universe of concepts and characters.Steve Ditko (1927-2018) began his comics career in the anthologies of the 1950s, where his unique style and perspective quickly earned recognition and respect. Recruited to join Stan Lee’s Atlas Comics, later Marvel, in 1958, his nuances contrasted well with Jack Kirby’s bombast. In 1962, in the pages of Amazing Fantasy, Ditko and Lee brought to life Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man, changing the industry forever. The pair’s other iconic co-creation, Doctor Strange, debuted in Strange Tales. Ditko returned to Marvel during the late 1970s and remained for much of the 1980s — co-creating Speedball, Squirrel Girl and other characters.Don Heck (1929-1995) worked for Harvey, Quality, Hillman and other publishers before arriving at Atlas Comics, later Marvel, where he penciled and inked stories for virtually every genre: crime, horror, jungle, romance, war, Western and more. With Stan Lee and others, he launched Iron Man, his supporting cast and his early rogues gallery — including the Black Widow, Hawkeye and the Mandarin. He also succeeded Jack Kirby on Avengers. At DC, his artwork appeared in Justice League of America, Flash, Wonder Woman and other titles.

With his profile continuing to rise, MacKay took on two of Marvel’s biggest titles, Avengers and X-Men, while helming his first big crossover event in Blood Hunt.Artist Iban Coello made a digital splash with Dungeon Siege III for Dark Horse, and Batman Beyond 2.0 and Justice League Beyond 2.0 for DC, where he also worked on the print title Superboy. Coello has made his mark at Marvel on titles such as Deadpool & the Mercs for Money and Captain America and the Mighty Avengers. He is quickly earning a reputation for symbiotic super-heroics, including on the blockbuster limited series Venomverse and Venomized. Federico Vicentini is a fast-rising star, having proved his flair for drawing web-slinging action with a pair of wall-crawlers on Amazing Spider-Man and Absolute Carnage: Miles Morales. After seven years of counterterrorism operations with the CIA, Tom King returned to the comics world in a big way. A former intern for both Marvel and DC Comics in college, he came back to co-write the celebrated spy hit Grayson and rework The Omega Men, both at DC. In 2013, he published A Once Crowded Sky with Simon and Schuster, a 336-page tribute to comic-book canon that fused art and prose. King wrote the mature eight-issue series The Sheriff of Babylon for Vertigo, drawing from his experiences in the field. At Marvel, he created a radical new take on the Vision in a critically lauded 12-issue limited series. King has since returned to DC to write Batman and Mister Miracle.Spanish artist Gabriel Hernandez Walta has made the most of his relatively short time in comics, drawing stories by legendary authors Clive Barker and R.L. Stine, as well as co-creating two hit series from IDW. He has now firmly established himself at Marvel on titles including X-Men and Astonishing X-Men, and his unique style proved a perfect fit both for Cullen Bunn’s dark exploration of the mutant Master of Magnetism in Magneto and Tom King’s acclaimed Vision. Walta joined writer Donny Cates to take Doctor Strange into the Marvel Legacy era.Canadian artist Michael Walsh got his start on the webcomic The Murder Book before making a splash with the acclaimed Image series Comeback. Walsh has worked on titles such as Zero, The X-Files: Season 10 and Unity, as well as Marvel’s Secret Avengers, Rocket Raccoon and Groot and X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever.

Following stints at AC Comics and Eclipse, Erik Larsen replaced fan-favorite Todd McFarlane on Amazing Spider-Man and quickly became a legend in his own right, chronicling Spidey’s cosmic-powered and powerless phases. His other Marvel credits include Defenders, Fantastic Four, Nova and Wolverine. At DC, he has penciled Doom Patrol, Outsiders, Teen Titans and others. Larsen’s greatest fame may be as creator of Savage Dragon at Image Comics, which he helped found and where he served as publisher for four years.Springing from the fertile ground of the U.K. comics scene, Warren Ellis came to Marvel during the early ’90s and proved his iconoclastic mettle in the ultra-edgy series Hellstorm and the limited series Druid — followed by fondly remembered extended runs on Excalibur and Doom 2099. After making a name for himself as a premier talent with Wildstorm’s Stormwatch, Transmetropolitan, The Authority and Planetary, Ellis returned to Marvel to pen Ultimate Fantastic Four, the Ultimate Galactus Trilogy, Iron Man and more. His Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. was both a critical smash and a cult favorite. In addition to reviving the 1980s New Universe in newuniversal and writing Thunderbolts, Ellis took over Astonishing X-Men following Joss Whedon and John Cassaday’s departure, and penned perhaps the definitive story of the Armored Avenger in Iron Man’s “Extremis.” In addition, he offered a distinctively memorable new take on Moon Knight. His Wildstorm miniseries Red was adapted into a hit movie in 2010. Ellis broke into prose fiction with Crooked Little Vein and his New York Times best-selling novel Gun Machine.A copy of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way sparked Leinil Francis Yu’s interest in comics when he was 11. Whilce Portacio’s tutelage helped him land his first mainstream comics work on Wolverine in 1997. Following a successful run, Yu took on such titles as Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, Superman: Birthright and Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk. After an extended period laying the groundwork in New Avengers, he and writer Brian Michael Bendis turned the Marvel Universe upside down with Secret Invasion, and the Marvel mainstay has subsequently worked on event comics including Avengers & X-Men: Axis and IVX, and such blockbuster titles as Star Wars.Milestone co-founder Denys Cowan’s comic-book career began on backup features: White Tiger in Spectacular Spider-Man and Firestorm in DC’s Flash. At Marvel, he moved on to pencil Power Man and Iron Fist, a Black Panther miniseries and Moon Knight: Divided We Fall, among other projects. Back at DC, he specialized in such urban heroes as Green Arrow, Question and Steel; he also penciled multiple miniseries, including Batman: The Ultimate Evil, Fight for Tomorrow and Total Justice. In the TV field, he produced episodes of Milestone spinoff Static Shock and comic strip tie-in The Boondocks, subsequently becoming senior vice president of animation for Black Entertainment Television.

What does it mean to turn one of the great graphic novels of our time into a major motion picture? In 1998, Frank Miller shook the comics world with his groundbreaking series 300. Marking Miller's first collaboration with watercolor artist Lynn Varley (Ronin, The Dark Knight Returns) in over a decade, 300 was a gritty reimagining of a battle in which three hundred Spartan soldiers fought to hold back the entire Persian army. The series won five Eisner Awards, including Best Limited Series, Best Writer/Artist (Miller), and Best Colorist (Varley). 300: The Art of the Movie takes you behind the scenes as director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) adapts 300 to the silver screen. With two hundred pages of production photos, concept art, and much, much more, 300: The Art of the Movie is sure to delight Miller fans and movie buffs alike. 'I knew this wasn't another typical sword-and-sandals movie, or a seven-hour-long lesson in historical accuracy. There are dozens of ways to retell the Battle of Thermopylae, but to adapt the story as presented in 300, I knew this was as much about bringing Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's visual style to life, as it was about the historical event itself.' -Grant Freckelton (Visual Effects Designer) 300 (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

A story from the comic strips that will make you laugh and cry Tom Batiuk spent several years as a middle school art teacher before creating the comic strip Funky Winkerbean in 1972. Originally a 'gag-a-day' comic strip that portrayed life in high school, Funky has evolved into a mature series of real-life stories examining such social issues as teen dating abuse, teen pregnancy, teen suicide, violence in schools, the war in the Middle East, alcoholism, divorce, and cancer. In 1999, Lisa Moore, one of Funky's friends and a main character, discovered she had breast cancer. Batiuk, unsure about dealing with such a serious subject on the funny pages, decided to go ahead with the story line. He approached the topic with the idea that mixing humor with serious and real themes heightens the reader's interest. Lisa and husband Les faced the same physical, psychological, and social issues as anyone else dealing with the disease. After a mastectomy and chemotherapy, Lisa was cancer free. She finished her law degree, opened a practice, and had a baby daughter, Summer. Then, in the spring of 2006, the cancer returned and metastasized. Lisa's Story: The Other Shoe is a collection of both the 1999 comic strips on Lisa's initial battle with cancer and the current series examining her struggle with the disease and its outcome. Additionally, it contains resource material on breast cancer, including early detection, information sources, support systems, and health care. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

WHY WE LOVE IT: We obviously love the Adventure Time show, and we pour our hearts into the comics. These original graphic novels are extra special because we just love being able to tell a longer story. Plus, we are such huge fans of Kate Leth and Zachary Sterling, who worked on the last AT OGN, so we had to ask them to do a followÂÂup! WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT: Our ADVENTURE TIME original graphic novels are longÂÂform stories that play out like an episode of the animated series. It's a selfÂÂcontained story, done in one, and all the fun, plus now it's in full color. Great if you like our PEANUTS original graphic novels, or fun, allÂÂages OGNs like MONSTER ON THE HILL and MAX STEEL. WHAT IT'S ABOUT: It's that lovely time of year where Princess Bubblegum gets to leave the Candy Kingdom and venture out into the outer limits of Ooo. But when her annual quest to visit old friends takes a dark and unexpected turn, it's up to PB and Peppermint Butler to keep the peace by using the true power of friendship. Written by New York Times bestselling author Kate Leth (ADVENTURE TIME: SEEING RED), and illustrated by the sensational Zachary Sterling (ADVENTURE TIME), BITTER SWEETS is a deliciously twisted adventure with a surprising aftertaste. Collecting issues 1-18 of the iconic Daniel Clowes comics anthology Eightball; it contains the original installments of Ghost World, the short that the film Art School Confidential was based on, and much more, newly designed for paperback by the author. The beloved comic book series Eightball made Daniel Clowes' name even before he gained fame as a bestselling graphic novelist (Ghost World, Patience, David Boring, Ice Haven) and screenwriter. From 1989 to 1997, he produced 18 issues of what is still widely considered one of the greatest and most influential comic book titles of all time. Now, Fantagraphics is collecting every single page of these long out-of-print issues in a paperback edition. It includes more than 500 pages of vintage Clowes: seminal serialized graphic novels, strips, and rants, such as 'Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron,' 'Ghost World,' 'Pussey,' 'I Hate You Deeply,' 'Sexual Frustration,' 'Ugly Girls,' 'Why I Hate Christians,' 'Message to the People of the Future,' 'Paranoid,' 'My Suicide,' 'Chicago,' 'Art School Confidential,' 'On Sports,' 'Zubrick and Pogeybait,' 'Hippypants and Peace-Bear,' 'Grip Glutz,' 'The Sensual Santa,' 'Feldman,' and many more. Features new covers by Clowes, and 'Behind the Eightball': the author's annotations for each issue, heavily illustrated with art and photos from his archives. Daniel Clowes is an American cartoonist. His most recent book, Patience, has been translated into nineteen languages, and his books and comics have won numerous awards, including a PEN America Literary Award and over a dozen Harvey and Eisner Awards. As a screenwriter, he has been nominated for an Academy Award and written the films Ghost World (with Terry Zwigoff), Art School Confidential, and Wilson. His illustrations have been featured on a wide-ranging array of posters, album covers, and magazines, including many covers for The New Yorker. He lives in Oakland, California, with his wife and son. A native New Yorker, writer J.M. DeMatteis has been one of comics’ most respected writers for nearly three decades. Ranging from the introspective psychological drama of Moonshadow to the offbeat comedy of Justice League to the autobiographical Brooklyn Dreams, he’s written from nearly every perspective in graphic storytelling. His long list of credits includes Captain America, Defenders, Justice League International, the groundbreaking Spider-Man storyline “Kraven’s Last Hunt," Spectre and more. His recent work includes the acclaimed children's novel Imaginalis and the popular comics-prose hybrid Abadazad books.Howard Mackie got his start at Marvel during the late 1980s as an editor and then a writer. One of his first series as full-time scribe was 1990’s massively popular Ghost Rider, which introduced the alter ego Danny Ketch to the mythos of the Spirit of Vengeance. He also wrote prolifically in the Spider-Man and X-Men titles of the ’90s.After early assignments on Kickers Inc. and Cloak and Dagger, Terry Kavanagh wrote Web of Spider-Man for years — spinning a hero he introduced in those pages, Nightwatch, into his own title. In addition to runs on Marc Spector: Moon Knight, X-Man and various mutant titles, he wrote Avengers, Iron Man and several tie-in one-shots during the controversial “Crossing” storyline. His miniseries work includes Before the Fantastic Four: The Storms, Fury/Agent 13, Black Cat and Rise of Apocalypse. He teamed Marvel heroes with UItraverse heroes in Exiles vs. X-Men and Ultraforce/Avengers Prelude.Having begun his career on G.I. Joe, Eisner Award-nominated artist Ron Garney is known for well-received runs on Captain America and Amazing Spider-Man. He has teamed with writer Jason Aaron on Wolverine, Wolverine Weapon X and Ultimate Captain America. Garney has also contributed design work to such films as Will Smith’s I Am Legend and Nicolas Cage’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. His later Marvel work includes Uncanny X-Force and a collaboration with Charles Soule on Daredevil. Garney reunited with Aaron on Thor: God of Thunder and then the creator-owned Men of Wrath for Marvel’s Icon imprint.Joe Brozowski, also known as J.J. Birch, has worked on Marvel titles including Guardians of the Galaxy, 2099 Unlimited, Marvel Comics Presents and Foolkiller, but is perhaps more familiar to DC Comics readers after lengthy runs on Xombi, Star Trek and two series starring Firestorm.Hired on the strength of his Official Marvel Tryout penciling submission, Mark Bagley rose to prominence as the artist of 1990s sleeper hit New Warriors. Following an acclaimed run on Amazing Spider-Man, he worked with writer Kurt Busiek on Thunderbolts. When Marvel launched its Ultimate line, Bagley and Brian Michael Bendis led the way with Ultimate Spider-Man, whose years of success made the pair the longest-running creative team in Marvel history. Bendis and Bagley have also collaborated on Avengers Assemble and the creator-owned Brilliant. His subsequent credits include Fantastic Four, Cataclysm: The Ultimates’ Last Stand, Hulk, All-New X-Men and Venom.
