PRECEDENTEMENTE, SU OUTSIDERS L’ultima incarnazione degli Outsiders, proprio come la formazione originale, rispondeva direttamente agli ordini di Batman. Questo nuovo capitolo della storia del gruppo ha avuto vita breve e si è concluso con la morte del Cavaliere Oscuro avvenuta al termine di Crisi Finale. Senza il loro leader, gli Outsiders sembravano destinati a sciogliersi, ma Bruce aveva già pensato a come scongiurare tale eventualità. Poiché bisognava concludere la missione che era stata iniziata, Wayne ha lasciato un messaggio olografico nel quale chiedeva ad Alfred Pennyworth, il suo fedele maggiordomo e aiutante, di mantenere in vita il gruppo ingaggiando sei individui. La morte di Batman è stata quindi solo un momento di passaggio e un nuovo punto di partenza nella vita degli Outsiders, ancora una volta uniti e ancora una volta pronti ad affrontare un destino incerto.
