The second book in the original The Obscure Cities series, The Fever in Urbicande was first published in English by NBM in 1990 in black-and-white. This updated edition features an all-new translation and beautiful new coloring supervised by Francois Schuiten and Benoit Peeters. Eugen Robick, Urbatect of Urbicande has been designing a new bridge to connect the southern portion of the city to the north, but his bid to commence construction has been denied by the Commission. Unconcerned with the politics of the situation, Eugen only cares about the balance it will bring to the city. While contemplating how he can convince the Commission to see things his way, Eugen is brought a cube made of beams discovered during construction of another project. Initially small enough to fit on his desk, it begins to grow, adding beam after beam, until it soon takes over his entire office. Growing exponentially, it eventually takes over the entire city, disrupting the social order as citizens begin using the beams to travel back and forth between the southern and northern parts of the city, previously only accessible via the guarded bridges. Steve Niles is a comic book author and novelist known for works such as 30 Days of Night; Criminal Macabre; Simon Dark; Frankenstein Alive, Alive; Mystery Society; and Batman: Gotham County Line. He is credited among other contemporary writers with bringing horror comics back to prominence.Bernie Wrightson (1948–2017) was an American artist known for his horror illustrations and comic books. He received training in art from reading comics, particularly those of EC, as well as through a correspondence course from the Famous Artists School. His first professional comic work appeared in House of Mystery #179 in 1968. He went on to work on a variety of mystery and anthology titles for both DC and its principal rival, Marvel. In 1971, with writer Len Wein, Wrightson co-created the muck creature Swamp Thing for DC. He also co-created Destiny, later to become famous in the work of Neil Gaiman. He worked on Spider-Man, Batman, and The Punisher and provided painted covers for the DC comics Nevermore and Toe Tags, among many others. Later works include Frankenstein Alive, Alive; Dead She Said; The Ghoul; and Doc Macabre (IDW Publishing), all co-created with horror author Steve Niles.

Chris Mowry is a veteran of both the US Navy and the video game industry, having worked for Midway and Sega. Before Walter Simonson's work with Marvel and DC, there was Star Slammers, a series first devised by Simonson during his college days. The Slammers would later be resurrected as a Marvel graphic novel, and then a miniseries.
