esempio: @author Stan Lee
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
codice a barre.
The celebrated Spanish cartoonist's most ambitious work yet is a touching homage to his mother and a bittersweet depiction of life in post-war Spain. It all starts with a photograph: an ordinary scene of a young woman and her family picnicking at a Valencian beach in 1947. Now in her twilight years, Antonia cherishes this photo dearly; it holds the memories of her upbringing, her family - the key to her Eden. Taking off from this routine family outing, cartoonist Paco Roca paints a heartfelt portrait of his mother's formative years. This delicate portrayal of a humble family is at once an intimate biographical story and a broader reflection of the hardscrabble existence many faced in post-war Spain. Antonia and her family soldier through constant hunger, the shady dealings of the black market, traumas of war and parental abuse, and the oppressive atmosphere wrought by the Catholic church and Franco's authoritarian regime - and yet, they find oases of joy and wonder in cinema, imagination, and small acts of kindness. Roca is known the world over for his quietly powerful graphic novels, from Twists of Fate to The House, and this latest masterwork may just be his magnum opus. In Return to Eden, Roca manages to charge quotidian life with rare poignancy, in all its daily struggles and daydreams, and readers will come away deeply affected. Paco Roca is an award-winning graphic artist and a cartoonist from Valencia, Spain. Fantagraphics has published English editions of many of his graphic novels, and several of his works have been adapted to TV and film. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

The 28th volume of Fantagraphics' ambitious reprinting of Hal Foster's immortal masterpiece. On a quest in the Asian lands of Cathay, Prince Valiant encounters a fire-breathing mechanical dragon and the legendary adventurer Prester John. Armies converge, mountains crumble, and a father and son are reunited. Mordred escapes imprisonment and treacherously stabs Arn, who learns that Maeve is soon to give birth. Val discovers a lost colony and wrestles with a tusked whale off the coast of Greenland, but a spell overcomes the expedition on the Isle of Lost Youth. Plus, an introduction by Turkish/German artist Ertugrul Edirne. And behind the scenes of a heavy-metal interpretation of Prince Valiant. Universally acclaimed as the most stunningly gorgeous adventure comic strip of all time, Prince Valiant ran for 35 years under the virtuoso pen of its creator, Hal Foster. Starring a daring and gallant young hero, the series features epic swordfights, elaborate scenes of pomp and pageantry, and breathless plotting that always leaves the reader wanting more. Fantagraphics' deluxe editions, each collecting two years' worth of Sunday strips, boast superbly restored artwork that captures every delicate line and chromatic nuance of Foster's art. A retrospective in illustrations from the psychedelic, transcendental mind of one of comics' most tireless forces, Bill Pearson. Having worked in comics from just about every position and angle over the last 50+ years (including as the editor of the legendary witzend), Pearson's first solo art book collects a decades-spanning body of work, never seen until now. His illustrations dance playfully between monstrous and silly imaginary creatures in the vein of Vaughn Bod?, and abstract gems evoking Wassily Kandinsky. If the title rings with humility, it's only because Pearson is selling himself short. A culmination of a life devoted to comics, Fantagraphics is proud to present Artist at Last. SUBURBAN HORROR DELINEATED IN A LUSH NOIR STYLE Set in a suburb that is both nowhere and everywhere, King of the Flies is a glorious bastard, combining the intricacy and subtlety of the best European graphic novels with a hyperdetailed, controlled noir style derived from the finest American cartoonists. Mezzo and Pirus, previously best known in Europe for a series of cynical, brutal gangster stories, have abandoned their guns and gals for this cycle of suburban stories, but in King of the Flies the violence has just (for the most part) been interiorized. King of the Flies first appears to be a series of unrelated short stories, each starring (and narrated by) a different protagonist, but it soon becomes obvious that these seemingly disparate episodes weave together to form a single complex narrative, with events that are only glimpsed (or even referred to) revisited from different perspectives - revolving around Eric, a ne'er-do-well, drug-taking teenager at war with his stepfather and, apparently, the whole world. (He is the titular King.) King of the Flies is designed as a trilogy of albums, which will combine to form a single graphic novel of stunning intricacy and intensity. (Vol. 2, 'The Beginning of All Things,' will be released by Fantagraphics in the Summer of 2010.) (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Published in 1969, this Argentine graphic biography about Ernesto 'Che' Guevara was an instant bestseller, banned by a military dictatorship, and almost lost - and it has never been available in English. Until now. Life of Che is one of the most anticipated entries in Fantagraphics' The Alberto Breccia Library. Originally released as part of a graphic biography series in January 1969, it came out in Argentina only a year after Ernesto 'Che' Guevara had died and reached an audience beyond comics readers. In the 1970s, the military government raided its publisher, destroying the means to reprint the book. It was a lost comic until a publisher in Spain restored it in 1987 - and never translated into English. Until now. The book begins in Bolivia in 1967, then flashes back through Che's life - his childhood, his radicalizing motorcycle trip with Alberto Granado, his taking up of arms in Guatemala, his meeting with Fidel Castro, and his subsequent military and political maneuvers, ending in a fade-out to his death. Alberto Breccia and his son, Enrique, drew Life of Che. Enrique draws the Bolivia passages in a woodcut style, while Alberto depicts the flashbacks in his trademark, expressionistic black-and-white. It is primarily set in the field and with the people. Héctor Germán Oesterheld (The Eternaut) blends his authorial voice with Che's first-person. Life of Che is imbued with a sense of immediacy, as both Che and, eventually, Oesterheld would meet their ends by a military government backed by the American CIA. As Pablo Turnes writes in his afterword, it is 'the testament of someone consciously marching toward his revolutionary death.' (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Vintage glamour girl artist extraordinaire Bill Ward gets the full Fantagraphics Studio Edition treatment featuring Ward's most polished, fully realized pinups from the 1950s and 1960s. Bill Ward's glamour girls were the staples of countless men's and humor magazines, where they shared the pages with cult models like Bettie Page, Tina Louise, and Julie Newmar, and cartoons by fellow 'good girl' artists such as Archie's Dan Decarlo and Playboy's Jack Cole. What set Ward apart - and above - his talented contemporaries in terms of sheer image-making was his use of the conte crayon. When drawn on simple newsprint stock, this potent combination created Ward's trademark gossamer sheen on his women's thigh-high stockings. This Fantagraphics Studio edition showcases the best of Ward's Humorama work and includes a healthy number of what became known as his 'telephone girls.' Tame by today's standards, Ward's telephone girls were always caught in candid moments when they just happened to be talking on the phone dressed in gossamer lingerie in innocently provocative poses. Most of the images in this volume were drawn between 1955 and 1965 when Ward was at the height of his skill. They have been scanned in super high resolution from original art and reproduced to highlight every sheen and accentuate every curve to its fullest. The book not only reproduces more than 150 of Ward's most beautifully rendered illustrations, but also serves as a time capsule to a more innocent moment in pop culture when these images were shocking. The Fantagraphics Studio Edition also features an introduction by fashion/ style icon and burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese. An original pinup art collector herself, Dita was mostly recently featured in Taylor Swift's music video 'Bejeweled.' Alex Chun is a Los Angeles-based writer/editor focusing on all things pop culture. Dita Von Teese is the brightest star in burlesque since Gypsy Rose Lee. As style icon and muse to artists and photographers, she has appeared on magazine covers and on the runways for the world's top designers. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

A timeless goth love triangle/coming-of-age story from a trio of acclaimed comics creators. 'I'm psyched. I'm totally psyched. I'm not a loser… Who the hell am I kidding?' Life sucks for Dave Miller - he's broke, girlfriendless, and stuck in a dead-end job. Really dead-end: Dave is the night manager at the Last Stop, LA's finest vampire-owned and operated, allnight convenience store. Facing an eternity of turning hot dogs and restocking blood broth for his crappy boss and Vampire Master, the future looks about as appealing as the sunrise. It's bad enough that Dave is clinging to his days as a vegetarian and refusing to feed off humans, leaving him weak as a kitten. But when he finds himself competing with psychotic surfer-vamp Wes for the affections of Rosa, a beautiful mortal flirting with the dark side, unlife gets about as sucky as it possibly can. Originally published in 2008, Fantagraphics is proud to bring this YA classic back into print with a new edition. Veteran comics creators Jessica Abel (Trish Trash: Rollergirl of Mars), Gabe Soria (Batman '66), and Warren Pleece (Incognegro) have crafted a timeless goth love triangle/coming-of-age story that garnered awards and accolades when initially published, including the 2009 YALSA Top Ten Graphic Novels for Teens list. With a stylistic nod to the wordless novels of Frans Maserell and the expressionist drawings of Franz Kafka himself, Jason Noivak's short graphic novel Kafka's Manuscript begins at the author's deathbed, where he entrusts his friend Max Brod with the task of destroying his unpublished papers. Brod refuses, and what follows is the story of how Kafka's literary legacy escaped Europe under the shadow of fascism. It is a survey of Kafka's paranoid landscape in kinetoscopic monochrome. As a master of deadpan satire, Kafka was as eloquent with both words as he was with what was left unsaid. Kafka's Cartoonist Jason Novak seizes upon the unsaid to comment on Kafka's afterlife, exploring in a new way what countless books about Kafka have previously attempted to explore with words. Every epoch has its conundrums, but the qualities that unite our age with Kafka's are a reminder that some characteristics of a culture are perennial. What better way to capture Kafka's enduring but evasive voice than with pantomime? This book is wordless with pages only on the recto; for the press preview, I removed the blank verso pages. The bawdy, swashbuckling story of one of the greatest painters in history concludes, in Milo Manara's sumptuous, hot-tempered graphic biography of his artistic idol, Michelangelo Merisi. Milo Manara's Caravaggio: The Palette and the Sword Book 2, the second half of Manara's epic two-volume biography of the hot-tempered Italian master painter, depicts the tragedy of his years on the run for killing a man in a duel in Rome. With a price on his head, Caravaggio flees to Naples, Malta, and Sicily - continuing to paint and desperately hoping his work will earn him a pardon from the pope. Caravaggio: The Palette and the Sword Book 1 and Caravaggio: The Palette and the Sword Book 2 - the latter available in English for the first time - mark the return of Milo Manara to U.S. readers and the debut of a new series of affordable graphic novels from Fantagraphics of maestro Manara's internationally acclaimed work. This second volume also includes an exquisite portfolio of Caravaggio's paintings from the 1600s, created during his exile from Rome. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels
