Kenichi Sonoda is an iconic artist of the retro anime aesthetic. He was the character designer for the classic 1980s cyberpunk saga Bubblegum Crisis, and in the 1990s for Otaku no Video, the anime from legendary studio Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion) that popularized the term “otaku.” In 2024, Kenichi Sonoda was given the prestigious Inkpot Award at San Diego Comic-Con.Gunsmith Cats is Sonoda’s longest manga series, making its original 1991 debut in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine, home of such stories as Vinland Saga, Blade of the Immortal, Oh My Goddess! and Wandering Island. Kurt Busiek is perhaps most famous for his Eisner Award-winning collaboration with Alex Ross on Marvels, a fully painted classic that still amazes a quarter of a century later. The 1950s boom in horror comics saw Atlas Comics' entrée into the genre. Beginning in March 1952, Amazing Detective Cases began detailing cases where justice was served in supernatural fashion and beginning in May 1953, the adventures in Men’s Adventures were taken over by ghosts, murderous revenge, and psychological terror. The cream of Atlas’ artistic line-up — including recent EC stars and future Marvel staples – rose to the grisly challenge of the horror genre. Writer Cullen Bunn first worked in comics with artist Brian Hurtt on Oni Press’s The Damned and its follow-up, The Damned: Prodigal Sons, as well as The Sixth Gun. Now one of Marvel’s leading talents, he has co-written Captain America with Ed Brubaker and Venom with Rick Remender, whom he later succeeded as writer, and assembled the fan-favorite, all-female Fearless Defenders. Bunn launched Magneto into his own series for All-New Marvel NOW!, then made him the star of a darker-than-ever Uncanny X-Men roster. Bunn has joined the ranks of iconic Deadpool writers with a diverse range of limited series featuring the Merc with a Mouth and the ongoing Deadpool & the Mercs for Money.Croatian artist Dalibor Talajić studied at the Music Academy in Zagreb before becoming a comic artist in 2010.
