Ponendosi sulla scia delle commedie scolastiche tutt’altro che ordinarie, come TORADORA!, Haganai narra le rocambolesche vicende di Hasegawa Kodaka, uno studente dai capelli biondi e scambiato per un poco di buono che si imbatte in Yozora Mikazuki, una bella compagna di classe, introversa e sempre di cattivo umore. Poche cose accomunano i due, ma di certo entrambi hanno qualche problema a socializzare.
