When the Comics Code Authority came into existence in 1954, popular horror and crime comics (which are now much sought-after) were put to an end. This pre-code crime classic being released mere months before The Comics Code would come into play, just made the cut and was probably a prime example of what the Code aimed to censor! It features this brutal cover of a decapitation, as well as a hanging panel on the inside. Often vividly violent and sometimes disturbing images would no longer grace crime, horror or other mainstream comics for the following decades, making Fight Against Crime #20 one of the most collectable in the comic world. Johnny Dynamite, created by Pete Morisi, was a hard-boiled private detective, known as 'The Wild Man from Chicago.' Good friends with the D.A. but readily accepted by the underworld, he smoked cigarettes constantly, cursed frequently, and had a bad habit of getting shot and beaten by his enemies. But always gave as good as he got; he was an experienced and persistent detective taking his cases personally and killing many of his early foes, claiming they were reaching for a weapon. Myra Benz, who had shot him in the eye, was brazenly killed without any true justification beyond his own sense of justice. The other main artist across Comic Media titles was Don Heck, who in 1955 would be recruited by Stan Lee to Atlas Comics, later to become Marvel Comics.
