After turning to the Dark Side of the Force, Vader is a ruthless henchman of Emperor Palpatine; he secretly intends to overthrow Palpatine to establish himself as ruler of the Empire. Vader is ultimately redeemed in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, when he sacrifices himself to save his son, Luke. Darth Vader is presented in his original costume as seen in STAR WARS Episode IV: A NEW HOPE. Vader stands in a commanding pose, the lights on his chest plate and belt doing little to penetrate the dark aura of his presence.
