Kotobukiya's Star Wars lineup returns to the 1/7 scale ARTFX statues with none other than Darth Vader! The character was created by George Lucas and numerous actors have portrayed him. His appearances span all six Star Wars films, and he is an important character in the expanded universe of television series, video games, novels, literature and comic books. The films establish that there was originally a Jedi Knight named Anakin who fell to the dark side of the Force; he is also revealed to be the father of both Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa, the two main protagonists of the original trilogy. After turning to the Dark Side of the Force, Vader is a ruthless henchman of Emperor Palpatine; he secretly intends to overthrow Palpatine to establish himself as ruler of the Empire. Vader is ultimately redeemed in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, when he sacrifices himself to save his son, Luke. Darth Vader is presented in his original costume as seen in STAR WARS Episode IV: A NEW HOPE. Vader stands in a commanding pose, the lights on his chest plate and belt doing little to penetrate the dark aura of his presence. Peter Parker wears his traditional red and blue costume, recreated here with painstaking sculpted detail in the fabric's texture and the superhero's lean muscled physique. His swinging pose, pulling down on the web strand as his legs start to rise, is taken directly from the comics, and the flexibility and movement adds a unique element to this presentation. In addition, the Webslinger statue is a new hybrid form with the New York skyscraper base constructed using cold casting to highlight the texture of the stonework while Spider-Man himself is made from PVC to capture the hero's movement and detail. Sculpted by Erick Sosa, this finely crafted statue depicts a grieving Wolverine who has escaped from the research facility where he was subjected to Experiment X, a brutal experiment that involved bonding the mutant's skeleton with admantium and erasing his memories. The statue recreates the scene where the fugitive mutant is running down a snowy mountain road after his escape, which is considered to a crucial point in the character's storyline. The diorama base is modeled after the harsh winter environment in the remote area of Alberta, Canada where Department K is located. Although the motif of the statue differs from the statues of the -Danger Room Sessions- series, Weapon X still looks great displayed alongside the other X-Men Fine Art Statues.
