esempio: @author Stan Lee
esempio: @artist John Romita
Jr.
@cover copertinista: cerca solo articoli di questo
copertinista. Per esempio: @cover Alex
Ross
@artista, @editore, @titolo (mentre @cover rimane uguale!)
grammaticalmente simili (Man/Men ad esempio).
articoli presentanti negli ultimi 30 / 90 giorni mentre @mese a quelli
presentati nel mese in corso e @YEAR all'ultimo anno (inteso come "gli
ultimi 365 giorni).
codice a barre.
Now in paperback, this debut collection of short stories are united by their exploration of the great American mythological drama. Tim Lane's characters exist on the margins of society-alienated, floating in the void between hope and despair. Visually reminiscent of Al Feldstein and Charles Burns, Lane's idiosyncratic and tense realism weaves between comic absurdity, nightmarish naturalism, chemical hallucination, and ecstatic terror. Lane's America is a haunted Coney Island, made up of lost characters haplessly shooting themselves in the face, and hopping freight trains in search of Elvis. by Tim Kreider Cynical, astute, blackly hilarious, and deeply biased, these cartoons are neither the superficial, obvious jibes that appear in your daily paper's editorial section nor the didactic left-wing rants syndicated in your local alternative weekly; they are the artistic equivalent of hollow-point bullets fired from a high-powered rifle with a laser sight directly into the brain of the Bush administration. Superficially resembling 1960s teenage humor comics, Tim Hensley's graphic novel Wally Gropius is actually an acute satire of power, celebrityhood, and modern culture that tells the story of the titular character, who bears a closer resemblance to a teenaged Richie Rich or a classmate of Archie Andrews at Riverdale High than he does the famous Bauhaus architect whose name he shares. Wally is the human Dow Jones, the heir to a vast petrochemical conglomerate. When the elder Thaddeus Gropius confronts Wally with the boilerplate plot ultimatum that he must marry 'the saddest girl in the world' or be disinherited, a yarn unravels that is part screwball comedy and part unhinged parable on the lucrativeness of changing your identity. Hensley's dialogue is witty, lyrical, sampled, dada, and elliptical--all in the service of a very bizarre mystery. There's sex, violence, rock and roll, intrigue, and betrayal--all brought home in Hensley's truly inimitable style. Created during an era when another well-off 'W' was stuffing the coffers of the morbidly solvent, Wally Gropius transforms futile daydreams and nightmares into the absurdity of capital. By Tim Lane Abandoned Cars is Tim Lane's first collection of graphic short stories, noir-ish narratives that are united by their exploration of the great American mythological drama by way of the desperate and haunted characters that populate its pages. Lane's characters exist on the margins of society-alienated, floating in the void between hope and despair, confused but introspective. Some of them are experiencing the aftermath of an existential car crash-those surreal moments after a car accident, when time slows down and you're trying to determine what just happened and how badly you're hurt. Others have gone off the deep end, or were never anywhere but the deep end. Some are ridiculous, others dignified in their efforts to struggle to make sense of, and cope with, the absurdities, outrages, ghosts, and poisons in their lives. The writing is straightforward, the stories mainstream but told in a pulpy idiom with an existential edge, often in the first person, reminiscent of David Goodis's or Jim Thompson's prose or of films like Pick-Up on South Street or Out of the Past. Visually, Lane's drawing is in a realistic mode, reminiscent of Charles Burns, that heightens the tension in stories that veer between naturalism on the one hand and the comical, nightmarish, and hallucinatory on the other. Here, American culture is a thrift store and the characters are thrift store junkies living among the clutter. It's an America depicted as a subdued and haunted Coney Island, made up of lost characters-boozing, brawling, haplessly shooting themselves in the face, and hopping freight trains in search of Elvis. Tim Kreider's first cartoon collection, The Pain-When Will It End? was one of the few bastions of sanity throughout the awful aberration in American history known as the Bush Administration. The end of his second volume of political cartoons, Why Do They Kill Me?, saw its author in despair over the 2004 election. In this new volume, Twilight of the Assholes, as reality gets ever bleaker, Kreider's humor becomes increasingly apocalyptic, deranged, and hilarious. He juxtaposes the Biblical Christ with His blonde, flag-draped, machine-gun-toting American incarnation in 'Jesus vs. Jeezus,' proposes a third political party that represents Americans' real values in 'The Sex Party,' draws the dead Saddam Hussein as a mischievous invisible imp still causing trouble, and envisions the officials of the Bush administration getting their comeuppance in the grisly fashion of Dick Tracy villains. And he finds two cartoons' worth of 'Reasons to Look Forward to the Next Terrorist Attack.' Also included is his infamous entry into Iran's Holocaust cartoon contest, 'Silver Linings of the Holocaust.' Kreider mocks not only the evil and hapless Bush, but the fecklessness of progressives, the imbecile bigotry of radical Islam, and, most of all, the dumb bovine complacency of the American voter. Twilight of the Assholes is an hysterical chronicle of the end of the Era of Darkness, and, believe it or not, a heartening document of one man's loss and tentative restoration of faith in democracy. We Told You So: Comics As Art tells of Fantagraphics Books' key role in helping build an art movement in the 1970s around a discredited, ignored and fading art form: comics. Assembling an all-star cast including Chris Ware, Art Spiegelman, Harlan Ellison, Jim Shooter, Stan Lee, Daniel Clowes, Frank Miller, Peter Bagge, Jaime Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez, Dave Sim, Steve Geppi, Todd McFarlane and every other major figure in modern comics, Comics As Art… makes the warts and all case for Fantagraphics Books' position near the heart of the modern reclamation of the comics art form. Acclaimed cartoonist Tim Lane debuts a new, ongoing series exploring the good, the bad, and the ugly of 20th century masculinity through a head spinning blend of fact and fiction featuring Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Walter Cronkite, and others - culminating in a quick-draw shootout on Mars between Steve McQueen, Johnny Cash, and Sammy Davis Jr. This all-new series showcases Lane's meticulous and jaw-dropping artistry - a level of detail echoing illustrative legends like Frank Frazetta, Alex Raymond, and Dave Stevens. Tim Lane (Abandoned Cars) presents a collection of stories where the lives of his Edward Hopper-esque characters are a rich mix of myth and fact, dreams and reality, belief and disbelief. A sociopathic boxcar hobo, a young man who sprouts worms from his face, an undocumented immigrant bookstore doorman, a former boxer and an expert hustler all populate a haunted landscape of broken dreams. While Tom Kaczynski's comics share many of the obsessions found in the prose work of J.G. Ballard, with riffs on dystopian modernity, bleak man-made landscapes and the psychological effects of technology, Kaczynki's visual storytellingadds an architectural dimension that the written word alone lacks. Beta Testing The Apocalypse includes 10 short stories, depicting the immense political and technological structures and spaces we inhabit that subtly affect and define the limits of who we are and the freedoms we presume to enjoy. Tim Lane rummages through 20th century Americana, mixing attitudes and cultural touchstones of the past from jazz clubs, pool halls, ballparks and graveyards to casinos, coffeehouses, back alleys and bus stops, capturing the seedy charm of American culture. Toybox Americana is a uniquely designed collection of images and prose and, like the culture it explores, is at once meditative and brimming with life. (immagine) Categoria: Books: graphic novels

Brilliant cartoonist Tim Hensley (Wally Gropius) returns with his first new comic book since the acclaimed 'Sir Alfred No. 3' in 2015! This is a gorgeous, oversized one-shot comic magazine (there is no Detention No. 1 -- it's a joke, folks!) strictly limited to 2000 copies and available only through the direct market! Hensley 'adapts' in his own absurdist fashion an acknowledged classic of American literature, 'Maggie: A Girl of the Streets' by Stephen Crane into a 44-page, oversized, full-color comic book titled 'Detention No. 2.' Crane's 1893 novella tells the story of Maggie, a Bowery waif on the cusp of maturity who becomes tragically embroiled with a barkeep named Pete. Hensley satirically frames his version of this brutal tale of slum life as a study aide àla Classics Illustrated, created for those being punished by remedial instruction. Behind the bonhomie, his 'British touch,' and his legendary films adored by the entire planet, Alfred Hitchcock turns out to have been in turn miserable, dangerous, mean, insensitive, obsessed, mad, and often screaming with laughter and/or dread. Master cartoonist Tim Hensley (Wally Gropius, Detention No. 2) paints a satiric and oblique portrait in this oversized one-shot (there is no Sir Alfred No. 1 or 2) that somehow informs the reader more about Hitchcock than most conventional history. The second issue of Mythologies & Apocrypha continues Tim Lane's exploration into the mythology of celebrity in America with 'Steve McQueen & Frank Sinatra in America,' focusing on the friendship between Frank Sinatra and Steve McQueen, and their corresponding but differing popular appeal. Lane also depicts the early life of McQueen and his life with his neglectful and alcoholic mother, presented in the style of 1930s childrens cartoons and comics, as seen through the eyes of a middle aged McQueen recalling his childhood. Bonus! A two-sided, tipped in poster! (immagine) Categoria: Comics
